Lord Stanhope's Estate.
AN ingrossed Bill from the Lords, intituled, An Act for enabling Philip Lord Stanhope, Son and HeirApparent of the honourable Philip Earl of Chesterfeild, together with the said Earl, to make a Jointure and Settlement upon the Marriage of the said Philip Lord Stanhope, was read the First time.
Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time.
Leave of Absence.
Ordered, That Mr. Gee have Leave to go into the Country for three Weeks, upon extraordinary Occasions.
Molineux's Estate.
An ingrossed Bill to vest certain Lands of Wm. Molineux, Gentleman, in Trustees, for raising the Sum of Two thousand Pounds, for paying the Portions to his younger Brother and Sisters, pursuant to a Decree in the Court of Chancery, was read the Third time.
Resolved, That the Bill do pass: And that the Title be, An Act, &c.
Ordered, That Mr. Harcourt do carry the Bill to the Lords; and desire their Concurrence thereunto.
Building Ships.
A Bill for the encouraging good and defensible Ships, was read the Second time.
Resolved, That the Bill be committed to Mr. Buscawen, Colonel Perry, Sir Math. Andrewes, Mr. Goldwell, Mr. Freeman, Mr. Harcourt, Sir Hen. Settlement of the Poor.
Mr. Hutchinson, according to the Order of the Day, reports from the Committee to whom the Bill for the better Explanation of Two former Acts for the better Settlement of the Poor, was committed, That they had agreed upon several Amendments to the Bill; which they had directed him to report to the House: And which he read in his Place, with the Coherence; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout; and then a Second time, one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, agreed unto by the House.
A Clause was offered to be added to the Bill, for * * * *.
And the same was twice read; and amended; and agreed unto by the House, to be made Part of the Bill.
Ordered, That the Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.
Exporting Bullion.
Resolved, That this House will, To-morrow Morning at Eleven a Clock, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of the Bill for the discouraging the Exportation of Bullion, and encouraging the Importation thereof, and converting the same into the Coin of this Realm.
Punishment of Offenders.
Mr. Price, according to the Order of the Day, reports from the Committee to whom the ingrossed Bill from the Lords, intituled, An Act to take away Clergy from some Offenders, and to bring others to Punishment, was committed, That they had agreed upon several Amendments to the Bill; which they had directed him to report to the House: And which he read in his Place, with the Coherence; and afterwards delivered in at the Clerk's Table: Where the same were once read throughout; and then a Second time, one by one; and, upon the Question severally put thereupon, with some other Amendments made thereunto, agreed unto by the House; and are as followeth; viz.
Press 1, Line 19, after "House," insert "Shop;" and, after "or," leave out "Out-house;" and insert "Warehouse."
Line 23, the same Amendment.
Line 24, after "Burglary," leave out all the Words, to "being," in Line 32d.
Press 2, Line 6, after "outlawed," insert "thereupon."
At the End of the Bill, add Clause A; "That every Person hiring any Room or Lodgings, and therefrom purloining or carrying away any Chattel or Furniture, shall be reputed and adjudged a Felon, and suffer as such; and also to give the Woman the Benefit of the Clergy in like Cases with the Man; and to suffer but as the Man suffers in that Behalf."
Supply Bill; Poll Tax.
Mr. Attorney General, according to Order, presented to the House a Bill for a Quarterly Poll.
The Bill was read the First time.
Resolved, That the Bill be read a Second time Tomorrow Morning.
Conference on Trials for Treason.
Resolved, That the Managers who managed the last free Conference with the Lords, do manage the free Conference this Day.
And the Managers went to the free Conference.
And being returned;
Mr. Mountague reports, That they had attended the free Conference; and acquainted the Lords with the Resolution of this House touching the Amendments to the Clause A, to the Bill for the Regulating of Trials, in Cases of Treason; and left the Bill, Clause, and Amendments, with the Lords.
Ailesbury Election.
Ordered, That the Chairman of the Committee of Privileges and Elections do, To-morrow Morning at Eleven a Clock, report the Matter touching the Election for the Borough of Ailesbury in the County of Bucks.
East India Company.
The House being acquainted, That the Committee of the East India Company attended, according to Order;
They were called in: And Mr. Speaker, by Order of the House, acquainted them, That there is a Bill brought in, by the Order of the House, to establish an East India Company; and that the present Adventurers may have a Stock therein of Seven hundred Forty-four thousand Pounds, if they will give Security, That the Stock they now have, shall be made good Seven hundred Forty-four thousand Pounds, all Debts paid: And that the House gives them Time till Tuesday Morning next, to give in an Answer to the said Proposition: And that the House expected an Answer to be then given accordingly.
Resolved, That the House will, upon Tuesday Morning next, at Ten a Clock, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of the Bill for establishing an East India Trade.
London Orphans.
Resolved, That the House will, upon Friday Morning next, at Eleven a Clock, resolve itself into a Committee of the whole House, to consider of Ways and Means to satisfy the Debts due to the Orphans of the City of London; and nothing to intervene.
Irish Forfeitures.
Ordered, That all Committees, except the Committee appointed to receive Proposals for raising Money upon the forfeited Estates in Ireland, be adjourned.
And then the House adjourned till To-morrow Morning, Eight of the Clock.
