Appointed to meet this present Afternoon, by Three of the Clock, at the Earl of Worcester's Chamber in Court.
Commission concerning the Union.
A Project, or Draught, of the Substance of a Bill presented to the House, by the Earl of Pembroke, and the rest of the Sub-committees that were appointed to confer with Sub-committees of the Lower-House, concerning a Bill to be prepared for the Matter of Commission to be dealt in for England and Scotland. This Project read, not as a Bill, but as a Draught to serve for the framing of a Bill; a Motion made thereupon, and assented unto, for the naming of Commissioners. The Number of Fourteen agreed on; and thereupon a Message sent down to the Lower House, by Mr. Attorney General, Mr. Dr. Stanhope, and Mr. Dr. Swale, to signify, That Report had been made to the Upper House of the Conference and Proceeding of the Sub-committees for a Project of a Bill; that the same had been presented and read to the House; that, because this cannot be made ready and in due Form to be proceeded in as a Bill, without further Conference, therefore the Lords desire another Conference and Meeting of the Great Committees that were appointed of both Houses; that the Lords have agreed of the Number of Fourteen to be set down Commissioners in that Act, when it shall pass (whose Names the Lords will make known to them at their Meeting and Conference); and therefore do desire, that the Lower House will agree on their Number likewise; and that, for the Appointment of the Time and Place, the Lords do refer it to the Lower House.
Answer returned, by Sir Francis Hastings and others; Touching the Commission, they have likewise made Choice of Thirty; for Appointment of Time and Place, they desire to be spared a little, by reason of great Businesses which for the present they have in Hand; but, at the next Sitting, they will give Notice to the Lords of the Time and Place, if it shall be to the Lords Liking.
Commissioners chosen.
After this Message sent down, a Motion being made for naming of the Commissioners, it was Agreed, they should be Five Earls, Three Bishops, and Six Barons; and they were chosen and named as followeth: videlicet,
Ld. Montegle's Privilege. Piggott arrested.
Upon Complaint made to the House, that one John Piggott, a Servant of the Lord Montegle, was arrested and committed to Prison in The Compter of the Poultry, at the Suit of one Humphry Corbett, by one Peter Potter, a Serjeant Mace in London, it was Ordered, That a Writ of Habeas corpus should be awarded, for the removing of the said Piggott, and for the bringing of him into the House upon Saturday next, the 12th of this Instant, by Nine in the Morning, by the Sheriffs of London; and that the Serjeant at Arms attending the House shall then also bring Corbett and Potter before the Lords, to answer their Contempt.
Adjourn.
Dominus Cancellarius continuavit præsens Parliamentum usque in diem Sabbati, videlicet, 12m Maii, hora 8a.
