At the Parliament, begun and holden at Westmr. the 19th Day of March, in the First Year of the Reign of Our most Gracious Sovereign Lord James, by the Grace of God, of England, France, and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, &c. and of Scotland the Thirty-seventh. And there continued until the Seventh Day of July, 1604; and then prorogued until the Seventh of February next following.

King's Speech.

THE King's Majesty being placed in His Seat of Estate, and the Lords in their Places, and the Commons of the Lower House assembled at the Bar, it pleased Himself to begin this Parliament by His own Speech; the which (because it was too long to be written in this Place) is set down, wholly and at large, in this Book, after the End of this Session. (fn. 1)

Commons directed to choose a Speaker.

The King's Speech being ended, the Lord Chancellor made a short Speech, according to the Form and Order of the House; and, in the End thereof, signified His Majesty's Pleasure to the Commons, that they should make Choice of their Speaker, and present him to the King's Majesty on the Two and Twentieth of this Instant March.

Names of Receivers, &c. of Petitions read.

This Day, after the Lord Chancellor had ended his Speech, the Names of the Receivers and Triers of Petitions, set down in the former Leaf, was read unto the House, by the Clerk of the Parliament.
