Prayers.

Gough reprieved.

A CERTIFICATE from divers Justices of the Peace of the County of Kent, touching Clement Gough, dated 26 Augusti 1650, was this day read.

Resolved, That Clement Gough, who was, at the last Assizes for the County of Kent, convicted and attainted of Felony and Burglary, and was reprieved by the Judge for one Month, be reprieved until the Parliament shall take further Order: And that Mr. Scott do bring in a Pardon for the said Clement Gough: And that Mr. Speaker be impowered to issue a Warrant to the Sheriff of the said County, to forbear Execution accordingly.

Door shut.

Resolved, That the Door of the House be shut until Twelve of Clock.

Letters read.

Colonel Purefoy reports from the Council of State, A Letter from Colonel Reynolds from Newcastle, of the Twenty-fifth of August 1650: And a Letter from Sir Arthure Hesilrige, from Newcastle, the Twenty-fifth of August 1650: And a Letter from Colonel Fenwick, from Barwick, of the Twenty-fourth of August 1650: [ (fn. 1) ] With a Declaration from Scotland.

Which were all this Day read.

Resolved, That Major Salwey and Mr. Scott do withdraw, to prepare a Vote to be passed, upon the Debate of the House.

Raising Money.

Resolved, That it be referred to a Committee, to consider of the best and most effectual way for the Bringing in or Advancing of present Money for the publick Service, upon any visible Securities, or any other Way or Means; and to report their Opinions therein to the House with all Speed:

Sir Henry Vane, Colonel Purefoy, Major Salwey, Alderman Allen, Mr. Boone, Mr. Nelthorp, Mr. Stephens, Mr. Ralegh, Mr. Say, Colonel Thompson, Mr. Bond, Mr. Corbett, Sir Richard Lucy, Colonel Harvey, Mr. Trenchard, Colonel Fielder, Mr. Scott, Mr. Snelling, Mr. Challoner, Colonel Downes, Mr. Garland, Alderman Atkins, Mr. Darley, Mr. Strickland, Mr. Hallowes, Mr. Hussey, Mr. Oldisworth; or any Three of them: And the Committee is to meet this Afternoon at Two of the Clock, in the Speaker's Chamber; and so de die in diem: And Major Salwey, Alderman Allen, and Mr. Nelthropp, are to take care of it: And this Committee have Power to send for Persons, as they shall think fit.

Ordered, That the Certificates from the Trustees and Contractors for Dean and Chapters Lands be referred to the same Committee, to take them into Consideration.

Robinson's Composition.

Colonel Thompson reports from the Committee of the Navy, upon the Proposition of John Robinson Merchant, "That it is the Opinion of that Committee, that the said John Robinson be admitted to compound for the Personal Estate of the late Bishop of Canterbury, which, at present, is not, or heretofore hath not been, under Sequestration, at the Rate of One Third Part of the clear Value of what shall be by him, or his means, discovered by the Twentieth of October next: And that the Persons, in whose Hands the Estate is, that shall discover the same within the said Time, shall not receive Prejudice for their former Concealing thereof."

Resolved, That the Parliament doth agree with the Committee, That John Robinson Merchant be admitted to compound for the personal and real Estate of the late Bishop of Canterbury, which, at present, is not, or heretofore hath not been, under Sequestration; and which shall be by him, or by his means, discovered by the Twentieth of October next; he paying in Hand to the Committee of the Navy One thousand Pounds to the Use of the Navy; and making up the same a full Third Part of the said real and personal Estate, when the same shall be discovered, by the Time aforesaid; to be paid to the same Committee for the Use aforesaid: And that the Persons in whose Hands the Estate is that shall discover the same within the said Time, shall not receive Prejudice for their former Concealing thereof: And that it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to take care that the full Composition be made for the real and personal Estate, so to be discovered, at the Rate aforesaid: And that the same be paid, accordingly: And the said Committee have Power to send for Persons, Papers, Writings, and Witnesses, as they shall see Cause, for that Purpose.

Norfolk Weavers.

Ordered, That the Amendments to the Act touching the Worsted Weavers of Norfolk and Norwich be reported on Friday Morning next, at Eleven a Clock.

The King's Declaration.

Major Salwey reports from the Committee appointed to withdraw, an Act and Declaration of the Parliament of England, touching a Pamphlet, intituled, "a Declaration by the King's Majesty to his Subjects of the Kingdoms of Scotland, England, and Ireland;" printed at Edenburgh 1650.

Which was this Day read the First time, at large; and after was read by Parts; and, every Part being severally put to the Question, after some Amendments at the Table, was assented unto.

And the Act, upon the Question, passed; and ordered to be forthwith printed and published.

Resolved, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take into Consideration an Answer to this Declaration; and to prepare the same; and present it forthwith to the House.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to see this Act put in Execution; and to recommend the same to the several Militia's and Justices of Peace in the several Counties, to take care the same be duly prosecuted and observed, accordingly.
