Prayers.

Clerk of the House.

ORDERED, That Henry Scobell Esquire be, and is hereby, required to give his Attendance on this House; and to officiate as Clerk of this House, in the place of Henry Elsynge Esquire.

Ordered, That Mr. Scott and Mr. Allen do prepare a Letter, to be signed by Mr. Speaker, and sent to Mr. Scobell, to that Purpose.

Letters to to be read.

Ordered, That the Letters from the Kingdom of Scotland, be read on Monday next. And

Customs.

It is likewise Ordered and Declared, by the said Commons, assembled in Parliament, That, in case the said Commissioners shall not be reimbursed the said Sum of Six Thousand Pounds, with Interest, as aforesaid, for the Forbearance thereof, out of the said Receipts of the ancient petty Customs, within the Space of Eighteen Months, to . . accounted from the Date of the said former Order; that in such case the said Commissioners shall be at Liberty, and they are hereby enabled to reimburse unto themselves such Part of the said Sum of Six thousand Pounds, and the Interest, thereof, as shall be then remaining unpaid, out of the Moiety of the clear Receipts of the General Customs, heretofore set apart unto the said Commissioners, for their Security and Reimbursement of such Monies as they have already advanced and lent unto the Parliament, for the Service of the Navy, as the same shall fall out, in Course: And that the said Commissioners shall not be removed from the said Employment, until they shall be reimbursed, as well the said Sum of Six thousand Pounds, with Interest, as aforesaid, for the Forbearance thereof, as all other Monies to them due, and payable to them, from the Parliament, as by former Ordinances is directed and appointed.

Ordered, That this Clause be Part of the former Order of the Twenty-ninth Day of December 1648, last past, for securing Six thousand Pounds, lent by the Commissioners of the Customs, for Supply of the Navy, upon the Security of the petty and old Customs.

Ordered, That the Committee at Haberdashers Hall be, and are hereby, impowered and authorised to call before them such Person or Persons of Quality as they shall think fit, for the Advancement of Monies for the Use of the Navy, upon such Securities as the said Committee shall think fit to propose. And

It is further Ordered, That the Monies which shall be so advanced, be paid unto Sir Henry Vane the Younger, Treasurer of the Navy, to the Use of the Navy.

Ordered, That Colonel Marten, Mr. Smith, Mr. Love, Mr. Fry, Sir James Harrington, Mr. Millington, Mr. Oldesworth, Mr. Blagrave, Lord Gray, Colonel Ludlowe, Colonel Moore, Mr. Humphry Edwards, Colonel Walton, and Colonel Bosevile, be added to the Committee at Haberdashers Hall.

Securing the King's Person.

This House being informed, That the King's present Condition is such as admits of an easy Possibility of Escape;

It is therefore Ordered, That the General be acquainted therewith: Who is hereby required to take speedy and special Care for close securing of the King's Person, and Preventing of Recourse unto him, unless by order from this House.

Navy.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of, and agree with, the said Committee, That such Ships be appointed for the several Services agreed upon by the said Committee.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to confer with the Lord Admiral, about the said Ships to be employed and disposed of in the said Services, accordingly.

Ordered, That the said Committee do take care for the speedy and effectual Getting in of Money, upon the Propositions made by the said Committee.

Navy.

An Ordinance for the better Ordering of the Affairs of the Navy, and that Malignants and unlawful Officers do not hold any Office or Command in the Ships or Places belonging to the Navy, was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed to the Committee of the Navy.

Ordered, That Mr. John Goodwyn, Mr. Love, Mr. Challener, Mr. Say, Mr. Martyn, be added to the said Committee: And all that will come are to have Voices, as to this Business.

Declaration.

Mr. Thomas Challener reports a Declaration expressing the Reasons for repealing several Votes formerly made by this House.

Which Declaration was this Day read; and, upon the Question, committed to the former Committee: And to bring it in again on Monday Morning.

Ship Zelanda.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to state the Business concerning the Ship Zelanda, cast away about the Isle of Wight; and report the same to this House forthwith.

London Militia.

Ordered, That Colonel Ven do bring in the Ordinance concerning the Settling of the Militia of the City of London on Monday Morning next.

Publication by Mr. Prinn.

Mr. Humphry Edwards reports Mr. Prinn's Answer, touching his owning the scandalous Pamphlet, intituled, "A brief Memento to the present unparliamentary Juncto, touching their present Intentions and Proceedings, to depose and execute Charles Stuart, their lawful King;" viz. "I will give no Answer, until I am commanded by a lawful Authority."

Ordered, That, Mr. Prinn's said Answer be taken into Consideration This-day-sevennight.

Plundered Ministers.

Ordered, That Colonel Bosevile, Mr. Peter Temple. Mr. Marten, Sir Edward Bainton, Commissary General Ireton, Mr. Blackiston, Colonel Lndlowe, Sir Wm. Constable, the Lord Gray, Mr. Blagrave, Mr. Garland, Mr. Love, Mr. Fry, Mr. Dixwell, Sir Gregory Norton, Sir James Harrington, Mr. Humphry Edwards, and Mr. Clement, be added to the Committee of plundered Ministers.

Courts of Justice.

Mr. Lisle reports an Ordinance for settling Proceedings in Courts of Justice.

Which Ordinance was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed unto Mr. Holland, Mr. Lisle, Mr. Allen, Mr. Millington, Mr. Serjeant Thorpe, Commissiary General Ireton, Lord Munson, Mr. Whitlocke, Sir Thomas Widdrington, Mr. Say, Sir Gregory Norton, Sir Edward Baynton, Mr. Browne, Mr. Oldesworth, Dr. Palmer, Lord Gray, Mr. Solicitor, Mr. Scott, Mr. Love, Mr. Blagrave, Mr. Carey, Colonel Temple, Major Harrison, Colonel Moore, Colonel Ludlowe, Mr. Tho. New Great Seal.

City Officers.

Ordered, That Colonel Ven do bring in an Ordinance for removing Obstructions in Election of Officers in the City of London.

Invalid Soldiers.

A Letter from the General, from Queene-street, 4 Decembris 1648, touching the Relief of maimed and sick Soldiers, was this Day read.

Ordered, That Mr. Love do report the Ordinance for regulating Hospitals, on Wednesday next.

Ordered, That the Treasurers for Sequestrations, at Guildhall, London, do forthwith advance Four hundred Pounds, for Buying of Bedding, and other Necessaries, for the sick and maimed Soldiers, to the Treasurers for sick and maimed Soldiers: And that the said Treasurers do reimburse themselves the said Four hundred Pounds, with Interest, after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Centum, out of the first Monies that come to their Hands upon the said Sequestrations.

Capt. King's Arrears.

The humble Petition of Captain Thomas King was this Day read.

Ordered, That the Sum of Twenty Pounds be forthwith paid to Captain Thomas King, or his Assigns, upon Accompt, in Part of his Arrears: And that the said Twenty Pounds be charged upon Haberdashers Hall: And the Committee at Haberdashers Hall are hereby required to make present Payment thereof accordingly: And the Acquitance or Acquittances of the said Captain Thomas King, testifying the Receipt thereof, shall be a sufficient Warrant and Discharge to the said Committee, and their Treasurers, and to such other Person or Persons as shall pay the same.

Littleton's Fine.

Mr. Humphry Edwards reports the Certificate of the Treasurer at Goldsmiths Hall, That the Sum of One thousand Pounds, in Part of the Fine of Sir Thomas Littleton, was paid to Francis Lord Willoughby, 18Martii 1646, in Part of his Arrears.

Ordered, That the Remainder of the Money heretofore given to the Lord Willoughby, and not paid unto him, do go towards the Disbanding of the Lincolnsheir Forces.

Prisoners of War.

Ordered, That it be recommended to the General, to take care to inquire, How the Scottish Prisoners have been disposed of, and by whom; and who have made Merchandize of Prisoners taken in War, either Scotts or English; and make Certificate thereof to this House.

Seymor's Money.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee at Haberdashers Hall, to state the Business touching Mrs. Seymor's Money; and to see how much thereof is due and unpaid; and to report the same to the House.

Ordered, That Mr. Allen do make his Report from Goldsmiths Hall, on Tuesday Morning next.

Court for trying the King.

Ordered, That the Commissioners nominated in the Act for Erecting of an High Court of Justice for the Trying and Judging of Charles Stuart, King of England, do meet on Monday next, at Two of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the Painted Chamber.

Transactions with Holland.

A Letter from Mr. Walter Strickland, from the Hague, January 7/28 1649, was this Day read.

Ordered, That it be referred to Mr. Martyn and Mr. Love, to prepare a Letter, to be signed by Mr. Speaker, giving the Thanks of this House to Mr. Strickland, for his good Service; and also to prepare other Letters, to be sent to the States General, and to the Provincial States, and their Agents; and to present them to this House.

Ordered, That the Letter from Mr. Walter Strickland be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of the Navy.

Sequestrations.

Ordered, That Colonel Stapely and Sir James Harrington be added to the Committee of Lords and Commons for Sequestrations.

Army Committee.

Ordered, That Colonel Bosevile, Mr. Blackiston, Mr. Garland, Mr. Humphry Edwards, Mr. Trenchard, Sir Gregory Norton, Mr. Clement, Lord Munson, Colonel Stapley, Mr. Smith, Mr. Cawley, Lieutenant General Cromwell, Mr. Carey, Sir Wm. Ordered, That the Lord Gray, Alderman Atkins, Mr. Thomas Boone, Mr. Harby, Colonel Waite, Mr. Nicolas Gould, Colonel Thompson, Mr. Gregory Clement, Mr. Augustine Garland, Colonel Purefoy, Sir Wm. Allenson, Lord Munson, Mr. Blagrave, and Mr. Fry, be added to the Committee at Goldsmiths Hall.

Sequestrations.

Ordered, That Mr. Smith, Mr. Say, and Mr. Humphry Edwards, be added to the Committee of Lords and Commons for Sequestrations.

Indemnity.

Ordered, That Mr. Browne, Mr. Trenchard, Mr. Whittacre, Mr. Anlaby, Mr. Scott, Mr. Holland, Mr. Sallway, Colonel Ludlowe, Colonel Walton, Mr. Mackworth, Mr. Humphry Edwards, Sir John Bourcheir, Mr. Smith, Sir William Constable, Mr. Corbett, Colonel Venne, Sir John Danvers, Mr. Love, Mr. Blagrave, Mr. Marten, Mr. Tho. Challoner, and Mr. James Challoner, be added to the Committee of Indemnity: And it is referred to the said Committee to present Rules, How the Country may have the Benefit of the Ordinance of Indemnity, without being put to the Charge and Trouble of travelling to London.
