Army Commissions.

THE Speaker, according to former Order of the House, delivered Commissions, before the Sitting of the House, to several Officers of the Army; viz.

To Colonel Nathaniell Whetham, his Commission to be Colonel of a Regiment of Foot, and Captain of a Company in the same:

To Abraham Peters, his Commission to be Major of the said Regiment, and Captain of a Company in the same:

To Captain-Lieutenant Peter Petite, his Commission to be Captain-Lieutenant of the said Regiment:

To Captain John Dober, his Commission to be Captain of a Company in the said Regiment:

To Captain-Lieutenant John Greene, his Commission to be Captain-Lieutenant in Colonel Mathew Alured his Regiment:

To Mathew Boynton, his Commission to be Cornet of the said Colonel's Company:

To Quarter-master Henry Dethick, his Commission to be Quarter-master to Captain Strangewaies' Troop, in the said Regiment:

Prayers.

Army Commissions.

ORDERED, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take care that the Commissions be delivered to the respective Officers in Colonel George Twisleton's Regiment.

Sheriff of Hertford.

Resolved, That Mr. Cæsar, of Bennington in the County of Hertford be, and is hereby nominated and appointed to be, High-Sheriff for the County of Hertford, for this Year: And that the Commissioners for Custody of the Great Seal do pass a Commissioners for him to be Sheriff of the said County accordingly.

Circuits.

Resolved, That Mr. Baron Thorpe be, and is hereby appointed to go the Northern Circuit this Lent Assizes.

Resolved, That Justice Archer be, and is hereby, appointed to go the Norfolk Circuit, this Lent Assizes.

Members Qualifications.

The Parliament this Day resumed the Debate upon the Qualifications of Members to sit and serve in Parliament.

This Clause, in the said Qualifications; viz. "And all such as have, since the First of February 1648, been actually engaged in any Plot, Conspiracy, Design; or abetted the promoting of the Title of Charles Stewart, Son of the late King, to the Supreme Magistracy of England, Scotland, or Ireland, or any or either of them; shall be, and are hereby, disabled, and made uncapable, to be elected, or to give any Vote in the Election of any Member to sit or serve in Parliament;" was read.

Resolved, That these Words; viz. "on the behalf of Charles Stewart, or any of the Line of the late King James;" be added, in this Clause, next after the Word "Design," and before the Words "or abetted."

And the said Clause, so amended, being put to the Question; It was

Letter from Gen. Monck.

A Letter from General George Monck, and the Officers under his Command, from Whitehall, the 11th of February 1659, was read.

Resolved, That the Thanks of this House be given to General Monck, for his faithful Service, in securing the City: And that, as to the Filling up of the House, the Parliament were upon the Qualifications before the Receipt of the said Letter; and the same will be dispatched in due time.

Ordered, That Mr. Scot and Mr. Robinson do repair to General Monck; and return these Votes, in Answer to this Letter.

Saturday, February 11, 1659. Afternoon.

Candles.

RESOLVED, That Candles be brought in.

Army Commissioners.

The Question being propounded, That the Parliament do now proceed in Settling of the Commissioners for Government of the Army;

And the Question being put, That this Question be now put;

The House was divided.

The Noes went forth.

So it passed in the Affirmative.

And the main Question being put; It was

Resolved, That the Parliament do now proceed in Settling of the Commissioners for Government of the Army, according to former Order, made Yesterday.

The Bill, intituled, An Act for appointing Commissioners for the Government of the Army, was this Day read the Second time.

An Act constituting Charles Fleetwood Esquire to be Lieutenant-General and Commander in Chief of the Forces raised, and to be raised, by Authority of Parliament, in England and Scotland, was read.

The Question being propounded, That the Number of the Commissioners for Government of the Army be Five;

And the Question being put, That that Question be now put;

It passed with the Affirmative.

And the main Question being now put; It was

Resolved, That the Number of the Commissioners for Government of the Army be Five.

Resolved, That General Monk be one of the Commissioners.

Resolved, That Sir Arthur Hesilrig be one of the Commissioners.

Resolved, That Colonel Morley, be one of the Commissioners.

Resolved, That Colonel Walton be one of the Commissioners.

The Question being propounded, That Sir Anthony Ashley Cooper be one of the Commissioners for Government of the Army;

And the Question being put, That this Question be now put;

The House was divided.

The Noes went forth.

So it passed in the Negative.

Resolved, That Colonel Mathew Alured be one of the Commissioners for Government of the Army.

The Question being propounded, That the Quorum of the Commissioners be Three.

And the Question being put, That these Words; viz. "Whereof General Monck to be one;" be added to the Question;

It passed with the Negative.

Resolved, That the Quorum of the Commissioners be Three.

Resolved, That the Time for Continuance of the Powers of the Commissioners be until the Parliament take further Order.

Resolved, That the Word "Ireland" be added, next after the Word "Scotland."

And the said Act, so amended, being put to the Question, passed.

Ordered, That this Act be forthwith printed and published.

The House adjourned until Monday Morning, Eight of Clock.
