Concealed Publick Monies.
MR. Love reports from the Council of State, That some Persons have offered to the Council, to discover great Quantities of Money and Goods, due to, and concealed from, the Commonwealth; praying some Allowance may be made to them, out of what shall actually accrue therefrom to the Commonwealth: And that they have, upon their being spoken with in that Behalf, declared their Willingness to accept a Tenth Part thereof: Which the Council judge reasonable; and ordered to be reported to the Parliament.
Resolved, That the Parliament doth agree with the Council of State, That the Persons, who have offered, to the Council, to discover great Quantities of Money and Goods due . ., and concealed from, the Commonwealth, shall have the Tenth Part of what they shall discover, and bring in; the Ninth Parts being first paid to the Commonwealth.
Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, forthwith to pay and satisfy unto Nicholas Love Esquire the Sum of One thousand Seven hundred Forty-and-four Pounds, disbursed, at Portsmouth, for the Use and Service of the Commonwealth; out of the first Money that shall come in for the Contingencies of the Council: And that the Acquittance or Acquittances of the said Nicholas Love, testifying the Receipt thereof, shall be a sufficient Discharge in that behalf.
Transporting Bullion.
Sir James Harrington reports from the Council of State, The humble Petition of the Governor and Company of Merchants, London, trading into the East-Indies; praying Order to the Commissioners of the Customs for passing a Bill of Store for Thirty-five thousand Pounds in Foreign Coin and Bullion, to be transported in the Five Ships by them provided to sail to the East-Indies, for Supply of that Trade: With the Council's Opinion, That a Warrant may be granted as is desired.
Ordered, That the Council of State be, and are hereby authorized to give Warrant to the Governor and Company of Merchants, London, trading unto the East-Indies, for passing a Bill of Stores, for the transporting of Thirtyfive thousand Pounds in Foreign Coin and Bullion. And It is
Ordered, That the Council of State do take care to see, that it be foreign Coin and Bullion, accordingly.
Gen. Monck.
Mr. Attorney General reports, A Bill for the approving and justifying the late Actings of General George Monck: Which was read the First time.
Ordered, That this Bill be read the Second time Tomorrow Morning.
Resolved, That General George Monck be Custos Rotulorum for the County of Devon.
A Letter from General George Monck, from Nottingham, of the 22th of January 1659; and a Copy of a Commission inclosed, granted to him by the Council of State, dated 24 November 1659; were read.
Resolved, That the Parliament doth approve of the Commission granted to General George Monck by the Council of State.
Two Letters from General George Monck, from Nottingham, of the 21th of January 1659, were read.
A Letter from Mr. Thomas Scot and Mr. Luke Robinson, of the 24th of January, 1659, directed "To the Right Honourable the Speaker of the Parliament," was read.
A Letter from Mr. Thomas Scot and Mr. Luke Robinson, from Leicester, of the 23th of January 1659, was also read.
Ordered, That it be specially recommended to the Provost and Fellows of Eaton College, and they be hereby desired, to elect Mr. Gumble to the first Fellow's Place in Eaton College, that shall become void by Death, or otherwise.
A Copy of a Letter from General Monck, directed to the West, inclosed in Mr. Scot and Mr. Robinson's Letter, was read.
