She held the under-mentioned manor and lands in her demesne as of fee.
Stanynton. 10 1/2 husbandlands.
Benton. 6 husbandlands and the fourth part of a windmill.
Ballasys. 20 a. land.
Trenwell. 3 husbandlands.
All the above are held of the king in chief by homage and fealty, 2s. yearly for ward of the castle of Newcastle, and 12d. for cornage by the hands of the baron of Graystok.
Wytton Undirwode. The manor (extent given), tenure not stated. The extent includes five parts of a watermill, five parts of a wood called ‘Wittonpark’, divers skalingie called ‘Scatonshole’, and a close called ‘Stobbesclose’. John Corbett held of the same manor the vill of Santon by knight’s service and suit of court, Thomas de Horley held a moiety of Northorseley by fealty, suit of court and a rent of 3s. 4d. yearly, and William de Wyndegate held divers lands in Wyndegattes by fealty and service of 2s. yearly.
Wyndegates. 9 husbandlands, held of Henry Percy, earl of Northumberland, by knight’s service, as of the barony of Ben …
She died on 29 September last. Thomas ap Gryffytz, son of Res ap Gryffytz brother of the said (sic) Henry, father of the said Margaret, aged 12 years and more, is her heir.

She held the under-mentioned knight’s fee.
Stradsete. A knight’s fee, held of Thomas son and heir of William Bardolf, knight, a minor in the king’s wardship.
She died on 28 March last. Alice and Margaret, aged 30 years and more, are her daughters and heirs, and ought to give the king 100s. for relief by reason of the wardship.

YORK. Inq. taken at Norton by Malton, 4 February, 12 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manor &c. in his demesne as of fee on the day of his death.
Seteryngton. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church of that town, the advowson of a chantry in the same town, and the advowson of the church of Geldeston, co. Norfolk, pertaining to the said manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service, service of one appearance at the great county of York, riding (tridyng’) of Crakehowe and wapentake of Bukros once a year, and service of 12s. 3d. to be paid yearly to the sheriff of York for fines of the wapentake. The extent mentions (inter alia) the old site of the manor called ‘le Overortyerd’, a rent of 30s. from the manor of Weston by Ottelay, a pasture called ‘Frythekerr’, a pasture on ‘le Wald’, lands in ‘le Westfeld’ and ‘Buktonfeld’, and pleas &c. of a court.
He died on Friday after St. Martin in the Winter in last year. John Bygod, his son, aged 13 years and more, is his heir.

Writ to the escheator to enquire as to the lands &c. which came to the king’s hands by the death of Richard de Burley; as William de Burley, his brother and heir, has died before suing the lands of his inheritance out of the king’s hands. The escheator is also to enquire as to the date of death and heir of the said William. 6 February, 12 Richard II.
GLOUCESTER, HEREFORD, AND THE ADJACENT MARCH OF WALES. Inq. (indented) taken at Webbeley, 16 February, 12 Richard II.
The said Richard held no lands &c. of the king in chief in the said counties or march on the day of his death.
He held the under-mentioned manor of Burley, Aston and Kyngton, messuage and virgate in Sutton, and toft &c. in Sutton in his demesne as of fee on the day of his death.
He held the under-mentioned castle and manor of Newelond, manors of Monyton and Tyberton, and messuage &c. in Bellymare in fee tail in joint feoffment with Beatrice his wife, who is still living, to wit, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with successive remainders to the heirs of his body, to Simon de Burley for life, and to his own right heirs.
Burley, Aston and Kyngton. The manor, held of Roger de Mortuo Mari, earl of March, a minor in the king’s wardship, as of the honor of Wygemore, by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee.
Sutton. A messuage and a virgate of land, held of the prior of the hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England by service of 12s. yearly.
Sutton. A toft and 18 a. land, held of the abbot of Lire by service of 6s. yearly.
Newelond. The castle and manor, held of the aforesaid Roger de Mortuo Mari, earl of March, as of the honor of Radenore, by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee.
Monyton in Stradhull. The manor, held of Lewis de Clyfford, as of the honor of Ewyas Haralde, by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee.
Tyberton. The manor, held of the dean and chapter of the cathedral church of Hereford by service of 16s. 6d. yearly, other services not known.
Bellymare. A messuage and 18 a. land, held of Kinard de la Bere, service not known.
So the aforesaid manor of Burley, Aston and Kyngton, castle and manor of Newelond, and toft and 18 a. land in Sutton came to the king’s hands by the death of Richard, and are still in the king’s hands, as the jurors understand.
The said Richard died on Thursday before Whitsunday, 10 Richard II, without issue by the said Beatrice and without heir of his body. Roger de Burley, aged 28 years and more, brother and heir of William de Burley, brother and heir of the said Richard, who (sc. William) died before livery of his land, is next heir of the said William.
The said William de Burley had possession of the manor of Burley, Aston and Kyngton and the aforesaid messuage, virgate, toft and 18 a. land in Sutton from the time of Richard’s death until Tuesday before Christmas, 12 Richard II, on which day he himself died.

YORK. Inq. (indented) taken at Stokeslay, Saturday after Michaelmas, 12 Richard II.
The said Walter was seised of the under-mentioned manor in fee tail by virtue of a grant made by Nicholas son of Nicholas de Menyll, who granted that the said manor, then held for life by Christiana late the wife of Nicholas de Menyll with reversion to himself and his heirs, should remain to John de Menyll, his brother, great-grandfather of the said Walter (to wit, father of John father of Alice mother of the said Walter) whose heir the said Walter was, and the heirs of the body of the said John de Menyll, with remainder in default of such heirs to himself, the said Nicholas son of Nicholas, and his heirs. The said grant was made by licence of Edward II in the fourth year of his reign; and by virtue of the said grant and licence Christiana attorned to the said John Menyll.
Castellevyngton. The manor, held of the king in chief by homage and fealty and the service of providing a man with an unbarded horse, armed with ‘aketon’, ‘palet’, lance and gauntlets of plate, for 40 days when there is war in Scotland.
He died on Wednesday the feast of St. Oswald last. William de Percy, his brother, aged 22 years and more, son of the aforesaid Alice, is his next heir in accordance with the aforesaid grant because he died without heir of his body.

He held the under-mentioned fractions of manors &c. in his demesne as of fee on the day of his death.
[HEREFORD]. Great Tadyngton. A third part of the manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by service of a third part of a knight’s fee.
Little Marcle. A moiety of the manor, with the advowson of the church of the manor, held of Roger de Mortuo Mari, earl of March, a minor in the king’s wardship, as of the honor of Webbeley, by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee.
Weston. 2 carucates of land, held of Ralph Fereres by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee.

DORSET. Inq. taken at …, Wednesday the feast of St. Katharine, 12 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned messuages &c. jointly with Joan his wife, who is still living, by gift of William vicar of the church of Styntesford, to him and the said Joan and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to his right heirs.
Gaulton. A messuage and a virgate of land, held of the heir of Edmund de Mortuo Mari, late earl of March, a minor in the king’s wardship, by knight’s service; and a messuage and 30 a. land, held of the abbot of Byndon by service of 1 lb. wax yearly.
He died on 14 August last. Joan and Christina his daughters, aged respectively 1 1/2 years and 10 weeks, are his heirs.

BEDFORD. Inq. taken at Bedford, Thursday after the Conception, 13 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned messuage &c. on the day of his death.
Wyldene. A messuage, 18 a. land and 3 r. meadow, held of Edward III in chief by service of rendering a fourth part of 1 lb. pepper and of 1 lb. cummin yearly, as of the honor of Peverel.
He died on Wednesday before Whitsunday, 49 Edward III. Agnes Morice, aged 40 years and more, is his daughter and heir.
Since his death the king has occupied the premises and taken the issues thereof by the hands of the escheator for the time being.

BEDFORD. Inq. taken at Bedford, Monday before Michaelmas, 14 Richard II.
He held the messuage and lands aforesaid in his demesne as of fee.
He also held the under-mentioned 9 a. land and 1/2 a. meadow in his demesne as of fee.
During his lifetime he enfeoffed by charter William Whyte, his bastard son, of the under-mentioned messuage and crofts in fee simple.
Wylden. 9 a. land and 1/2 a. meadow, held of the king in chief, as of the honor of Peverel.
Wylden. A messuage with an adjacent croft, and another croft, containing 2 a. land and 27 a. land and 1/2 a. land, held of the king in chief, as of the honor of Peverel, by service of a third part of 1 lb. pepper and cummin.
Agnes Morce, aged 40 years and more, is his daughter and heir.
Since his death Edward III and the present king have occupied the premises and taken the issues thereof.

Writ of certiorari to the treasurer and barons of the Exchequer touching the cause of the taking of the lands &c. late of the said Richard into the king’s hand. 14 October, 14 Richard II.
Certificate (undated) by the treasurer and barons that it is found in the roll of particulars of the account of John Olneye, late escheator of Edward III in the county of Bedford, of the issues of his escheatry from 1 December, 44 Edward III, to 5 December, 45 Edward III, that he took into the king’s hand a messuage and 18 a. land in Wilden late of Richard Blount because he found by an inquisition taken before him ex officio that William White and Agnes, Richard’s daughter, next heirs of the same Richard, entered into the said messuage &c. after Richard’s death without process of the king’s court.

Coghan in the March of Wales. The manor, held in chief of the heir of Edward le Despenser, knight, a minor in the king’s wardship, by service of a rose yearly.
He died on Sunday after Whitsunday, 7 Richard II. Robert Coghan his son, aged 22 years and more, is his heir.
Since his death Elizabeth late the wife of the said Edward le Despenser has occupied the manor and received the issues thereof, by what title the jurors know not.

SOMERSET. Inq. taken at Bryggewater, Saturday before St. Martin the Bishop, 12 Richard II.
The under-mentioned manor came to the king’s hands by the death of the said William Cogan and by reason of the minority of John his son and heir and so remained until the king, by letters patent dated 13 October, 6 Richard II, granted it, inter alia, to Robert, bishop of London, Neel Loryng, knight, now deceased, and Isabel late the wife of the said William. By pretext of the said letters, the bishop and Isabel have occupied the manor and taken the issues and profits thereof until now.
Wygebere. The manor, held of the king in chief by the service of rendering to the king 20s. yearly of serjeanty by the hands of the sheriff, and by the service of being usher at the door of the king’s chamber.
The said John son of William died on 14 August, 6 Richard II. Elizabeth his sister, aged 15 years and more, now wife of Fulk Fitzwaryn, knight, is his heir.

CORNWALL. Assignment of dower (indented) made at Carmynow by the escheator, in the presence of Martin de Ferers, Henry Nanfan and Robert Southdon, his attorneys, Saturday before Midsummer, 12 Richard II.
The following have been assigned to her in dower.
Weneanton. In recompense of her dower of the manor: two fields of the demesne lands called ‘Golngew’ and ‘Menwyn’ containing 25 a., 2 a. meadow adjoining Dame Elizabeth Carmynou’s meadow on the east side, with her share of the marsh and the easement of sand, a third part of the grange towards the east end, with the land between the walls at the same end, a third part of two-thirds of the whole pasture called ‘Tewen’, with the furze, the rents and services of the heirs of Eysi(?) and Matthew Bryt, free tenants, and the tenements of William Hendre and John Splendor in Roos, Peter Palmer in Trenewith, and Ralph Persoun and John Trenbian in Tol, conventionary tenants.
Lucyes. In recompense of her dower of the manor: a third part of two-thirds of the land of Pengarrek, with the rents and services of John Reskymmer, knight, William Lambrun, knight, William Landewennek and Peter Gwayfos.
Kenel. In recompense of her dower of the manor: the rents and services of William Trethaek, John Ressegh, John Anny, John Yonge and John Jakes, and the lands &c. in the manor held by Luke Robyn and John Nanssegh in conventionary tenure.
Trethenes. In recompense of her dower of the manor: the rents and services of Warin Lercedekne, knight, Otes Bodrigan, Michael Petit and John Chaynduyth, and the lands &c. of William Geffr’, Geoffrey Rogger, William Gyliagh, John Pascou and John Nevylle, conventionary tenants there.
Merthyn. In recompense of her dower of the manor: the whole cellar with solar above annexed to the hall and buttery at the east end, together with the garden to the south of the said cellar from the latrine of the chamber of the hall towards the west as far as the dyke of the garden opposite the said latrine on the south; also 22 a. 1 r. of the demesne land of the field called ‘Gwelengarth’ annexed to the dove-pound (parco collumbarum) on the north side and lying between the way leading from Merthyn towards the church of St. Constantine on the west and the land of Polgeryn on the east; also a third part of two-thirds of all the waste, pasture and furze there, a third part of two-thirds of the doves there, the whole wood called ‘Coesenys’ annexed to the wood of Benathelek on the west side, the rents and services of James Gerveys and Walter Tretheuen, the lands &c. held by John Bonvalet and Peter Milward in Restalec and Polpenruth in conventionary tenure, and a third part of the whole rent of Stekker.
Whitston. The advowson of the church, in recompense of her dower for two-thirds of the churches of Ruan Minor (Rumoni parvi) and Eglosroes.

DEVON. Inq. taken at Exeter, Tuesday before St. Barnabas, 12 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manors and lands &c. jointly with Katharine his wife.
Blakeburgh. The manor and advowson, with certain lands &c. in Kentesbere and the advowson of the church of Kentesbere at every alternate turn; whereof the capital messuage of the manor of Blakeburgh, with the demesne land and the advowson of the church there, is held of John de la Pomeray, knight, as of his manor of Byry, by knight’s service, and the lands &c. in Kentesbere, with the advowson of the church there, are held of the earl of Devon, as of his honor of Okampton, by knight’s service.
Wodeforde. The manor, held of … de la Souche, as of his castle of Tottenesse, by knight’s service.
Cockynheghes. Certain lands &c., held of Robert Chalouns, as of his manor of Bokerel, by knight’s service.

He died seised in fee of the under-mentioned rent.
Hilton. 19 marks rent issuing from the manor, which manor is held of him and his heirs by John Mayhow and Maud his wife, for life, at the aforesaid rent for all services except homage to him and his heirs and the services of Nicholas Bampford, William abbot of Hertilond, Edmund Boson, John Cotel, William Howel and Margery his wife, William Mustard, John Duraunt [and] Thomas Carmynow, and their heirs. The manor is held of the king, of his castle of Launceston, as of the duchy of Cornwall, by knight’s service and a rent of 10s. yearly.

He died seised of the under-mentioned manor in joint feoffment with Katharine his wife, still surviving, by gift and grant of Thomas Talle and John Chirchehull, who by a fine levied in the king’s court granted it to him and Katharine and the heirs of their bodies, with successive remainders to the heirs of his body, to William de Bonevyll, knight, for life, to William son of the said William, and the heirs of his body, to John brother of the said William son of William, and the heirs of his body, to Richard brother of the last-named John, and the heirs of his body, and to the right heirs of the above-mentioned John Cobham.
Yevylton. The manor, held of the lord of — (fn. 1), as of his manor of — (fn. 1), co. — (fn. 1), by knight’s service.
Date of death as above. John, his son by the said Katharine, aged 10 years and more, is his heir.

He held the under-mentioned manor jointly with Katharine his wife, who is still living, by a fine levied in the king’s court.
He held the under-mentioned lands in Cokkyngheghes jointly with the same Katharine by a charter made in the country.
Blakburgh. The manor; whereof one moiety, which is in the town of Kentesbere, is held of the prior of Cristeschurche by knight’s service for a moiety of a knight’s fee, and the other moiety is held of John de la Pomeray, knight, by knight’s service, as of his manor of Byry Pomeray, for a moiety of a knight’s fee.
Cokkyngheghes. A messuage and 60 a. land, held of Robert Chalouns, as of his manor of Bokerel, by knight’s service and service of 6d. rent yearly.

MIDDLESEX. Inq. taken at the church of St. Clement Danes without the bar of the New Temple, London, on Tuesday after SS. Philip and James, 12 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned messuage &c. in fee on the day of his death.
Parish of St. Clement Danes. A messuage and 3 shops, held of the king in chief by fealty and the service of rendering 18d. yearly at Michaelmas by the hands of the sheriff of the county.
He died in Spain on the feast of the Epiphany, 11 Richard II. Richard Crokey his brother, aged 24 years and more, is his heir.
Since his death Robert Water, citizen and ‘waxchandeler’ of London, has occupied the said messuage &c. and taken the issues and profits thereof in accordance with indentures whereby the said John demised the same to him, for a sum of money paid in hand, to hold to him, his heirs and assigns, from Easter, 9 Richard II, until Easter four years afterwards, rendering a red rose yearly at Midsummer, if demanded.

DEVON. Inq. taken at Honyton, Saturday before the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, 13 Richard II.
The said William, late a minor in the king’s wardship, held the undermentioned manor of Southlegh on the day of his death, to him and the heirs of his body, by grant of John Baret and Henry Bourton, with remainder to Margaret late the wife of Hugh de Courtenay, late earl of Devon, for life.
He also held the under-mentioned manor of Farwaye to him and his heirs as above, by grant of the aforesaid earl.
Southlegh. The manor, held of the king in chief of his manor of Bradenynch, as of the duchy of Cornwall, by knight’s service.
Farwaye. The manor, held of the heirs of John de Wilinton, as of their manor of Lomene, by knight’s service.
The said William died without heir of his body on Monday the feast of St. Laurence, 12 Richard II; and so the manors of Southlegh and Farwaye now remain to the aforesaid Margaret for life.

He held no lands &c. in the hundred of Rochefford or elsewhere in the county of Essex on the day of his death, because by his charter of feoffment dated Wednesday after St. Barnabas, 1 Richard II, he gave all the manors and lands &c. which were his on the day and year aforesaid to John de Sutton and Richard de Sutton, knights, Adam Engleys, parson of the church of Caumpys, and Geoffrey de Dersham, to hold to them, their heirs and assigns for ever.
He died on Friday before St. Matthias last. John Chaunceux, aged 16 years at the feast of the Purification last, is his heir.

He died on the feast of St. Laurence in the year aforesaid. Constantine his son is his heir, age not known because he was born in the county of Lincoln.

A messuage called ‘Grenegarth’, two-thirds of a house called ‘Ledynhalle’, 110s. 11d. rent of assise of free tenants, the perquisites of two-thirds of a court held once every week, and a casual toll of 2 1/2d. for every sack of wool resting and remaining on his soil, held of the king in chief, as of the barony of Tateshale, [?by knight’s service], amount not known.
He died in parts beyond seas, to wit, at Rodes, on the feast of St. Laurence last. Constantine his son, aged 16 years on 10 May last, is his heir.

He held the under-mentioned third part &c. in fee on the day of his death.
Hunmanby. A third part of the manor, 6 bovates of land in demesne, 9 bovates of land let to divers tenants for terms of years, 7 cottages, 3 crofts of meadow, an enclosure of meadow and pasture, and a rabbit warren, held of the king in chief by doing suit to the county of York once every six weeks, to the riding of Craikhowe once a year, and to the great wapentake of Rudstan once a year. A third part of the perquisites of the court there, and of the market and fair, are worth nothing by the year beyond the fees of the steward, clerk and bailiff.

He held the under-mentioned castle and manor of Bokenham and manor of Babyngle jointly with Elizabeth his wife, who is still living, by gift and grant of Ralph de Crumbwell, knight, Richard Holdych, John de Holkham, Ellis de Byntre, parson of the church of Carleton, John de Methwold and William de Keteryngham, parson of a mediety of the church of Hedursete, made with the king’s licence to him and Elizabeth and his heirs.
He held the remaining under-mentioned manors &c. jointly with the same Elizabeth by gift and grant of John de Holkham, John Reed and Thomas de Flicham made to him and Elizabeth and his heirs.

Gryshawe in Wymondham. Two-thirds of the manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by service of being butler at the king’s coronation. The extent includes a park with deer, a wood called ‘Gryshagh’, 4 alder groves, a market held every Tuesday, and a court with a leet. John Merlee of Bokenham, keeper of the park of Wymondham, receives 2d. a day for life from the said manor for keeping the park, by gift and grant of the said John de Clyfton made with the king’s licence.

He held the under-mentioned land in Great Stanbregg in his demesne as of fee in joint feoffment with Joan his wife, who is still living, [to wit, to them and] his heirs and assigns, by grant of William de Pakelesham, William Bret of Great Stanbregg and John Steel of the same.
He held the under-mentioned land in Rochefford in his demesne as of fee.
He held the under-mentioned land in Little Stanbregg in fee tail, to him and the heirs of his body.
Great Stanbregg. 32 a. land, held of Joan countess of Hereford, as of her manor of Bretton, which manor is parcel of the manor of Rochefford, by service of 3s. rent yearly; worth 10s. yearly.
Rochefford. 8 a. land, held of the same countess, as of her manor of Rochefford, by service of 1/2d. rent yearly.
Little Stanbregg. 4 a. land, held of the heirs of Pain Tiptot, as of the manor of Little Stanbregg, by service of 6d. rent yearly.
He died on 4 May, 50 Edward III. Emma and Cecily, his daughters, aged 20 years and 17 years respectively, are his heirs to the premises.
Ever since the said 4 May answer has been made to the king by the hands of successive escheators for the 10s. issues of the aforesaid land in Great Stanbregg, under the name of 32 a. land in Rochefford which the said Robert Edolph held of the manors of Little Stanbregg, Rochefford and Berton, which (sc. Berton) is parcel of the same manor of Rochefford, as is contained in the rolls of particulars of the accounts of the said escheators.

She held the under-mentioned manor, moiety and rent in joint feoffment with Ralph Fysers, knight, her late husband, by grant of Robert Fysers, chaplain, made to the said Ralph and Maud and the heirs of Ralph.
Wiliton. The manor, held of the earl of Pembroke, a minor in the king’s wardship, as of his manor of Berewyk, by knight’s service.
Bromton. A moiety of the manor, held of Margery Meriot, as of her manor of Bromton Rauf, by knight’s service.
Wachet. 21s. 1d. yearly rent issuing from certain lands &c. held severally by divers tenants in fee within the manor, which is of the ancient demesne of the crown.
She died on 3 October last. James, son of Hawise one of the daughters of the said Ralph, aged 30 years and more, and Willelma and Joan, aged respectively 6 years and 5 years and more, daughters of John son of Joan the other daughter of the said Ralph, are Ralph’s heirs.
Since Maud’s death the said James and Robert Hulle have taken the issues of the premises.

Lokhawe. The manor (extent given), held of John duke of Lancaster, by service of 36s. yearly. The extent includes 2 carucates of land which are worth nothing because charged with yearly rents of 1/2 mark to William de Sallow, 7s. 6d. to the master of the hospital of St. Lazarus of Burton, 2s. 6d. to the lord of Chaddesden and 18d. to the church of Spondon.

Since then the said John de Leek has occupied the manor and received the issues and profits.
