Denham. The manor (extent given) held of Sir Roger le Bygod, earl of Norfolk, marshal of England, by service of a knight’s fee; which manor de demised to farm to Sir Thomas de Snyterton for 11 years from the feast of St. Luke last, for which term he (Sir Thomas) paid the whole beforehand.
Thomas his son, aged 13 at the feast of St. Michael next, is his next heir.

CUMBERLAND. Inq. made at Carlisle on Tuesday after Whitsunday, 23 Edw. I.
Burgh by Sands. The barony, including:—
Burgh. The chief manor (extent given), including 5 parts of a free net and other fisheries, three saltworks, five parts of a court, and a rent called ‘Flodesilvre.’
Leysingby. Land, meadow and wood, worth 6l. 13s. 4d. yearly.
Ayketon. 2s. yearly rent and the advowson of the church.
Kircoswalde. Lands and tenements worth 40 marks, and the advowson of the church.
Of all which he was enfeoffed jointly with Isabel his wife, before their marriage, by Thomas de Molton his father.
WESTMORLAND. A tenant holding a manor (unspecified) by cornage.
CUMBERLAND. Divers tenants holding by cornage; for which tenements he rendered 10l. 19s. 2d. at the exchequer at Carlisle.
Gillesland alias Gilland. The barony, including:—
Erthington. The chief manor (extent given), including 80a. arable in Hamesby within the manor, two parks, two lakes, free chaces, eyries of sparrowhawks (nisorum), and free tenants by socage who do homage and suit at the court of Erthington.
Coupeland. 4 tenants holding by knight’s service.
And the said Thomas held the said fees of Sir Thomas lord of Egremund.
Heir as above, aged 13 years on the Gule of August next.

Thorgramby. The manor, except half a mark, (extent given with names of free tenants), including pasture in Smythefeld, held of the king in chief, service unspecified.

CUMBERLAND. Inq. Tuesday after the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 23 Edw. I.
Burgh on Sands. The barony, held of the king in chief by service of 37s. yearly for cornage at the king’s exchequer of Carlisle, including:—
Burgh. The chief manor of the barony (full extent given with names of tenants), including Richard Fraunceys who holds Routheclif rendering 2s. yearly, three saltworks, two water-mills, a fish pond, 5 parts of a free net, a little fishery called ‘tractus,’ the farm of a fishery called ‘Flodesilver,’ a fishery with a pond, and herbage called ‘Senyfrith,’ Suthfryth (?), Routhmyre, Pynelmyre, Westsedyk, Burstedhill, Northsedyk and Myddelsedyk.
Leysingby. The hamlet (extent given), including three sheilings (scalinge) with pasture, and a brewery (bracina).
Kirkeoswald. Nothing is said of this manor because the said Thomas and Isabel his wife were enfeoffed jointly thereof before their marriage; it is a member of the barony of Burgh.
Gillesland. The barony held of the king in chief by service of 2 knights’ fees, including:—
Irthington. The chief manor of the barony (full extent given with names of tenants).
Hayton. The hamlet (extent given), a member of the said manor.
Cumquitington, a member of the said manor (extent given), including the herbage of Kynheur and Northscouch, and the wood of Northscouch.
Brampton. The manor, a member of the said manor (extent given), including a brewery, woods called Brygwod, Irthyn and Gelt, a mill on the Gelt, the mills of Lonetby and Rotheburne, a fulling-mill, rents of 11 skips and 5 1/2 strikes (?) (estr’) of flour, and a pasture called ‘Geltesdal.’
Askerton. A capital messuage &c., 110a. arable, 12a. meadow, 10a. pasture, and 38 farmers holding 352a. land and rendering 13l. 5s. 2 1/4d., rents of flour, &c., a water-mill and herbage called Spathe Adam.
Fulewod. 44 farmers holding 596 1/2a. land at will.
Waltonwode. 35 farmers holding 209 1/2a. land at will.
Northmore. A great waste, worth in common years 24l.
Tymelterne and Talkaneterne. The lakes, which render nothing but fishing for the lord’s use.
The free chase of the barony renders nothing but herbage &c.
Writ of plenius certiorari, on the complaint of Isabel late the wife of the said Thomas that the manor and advowson of Kyrkeoswald and tenements &c. in Burgh on Sands and Fulwod, whereof she was enfeoffed jointly with her husband, had been taken into the king’s hand on his death, 4 July, 23 Edw. I.
CUMBERLAND. Inq. made at Brampton on Tuesday after the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 23 Edw. I.
Kirkeoswald. Sir Thomas de Multon, father of the said Thomas, enfeoffed Thomas his son and the said Isabel before their marriage of the manor, excepting the park and the advowson of the church, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, in 8 Edw. I, and in 12 Edw. I similarly enfeoffed them of the said park and advowson, from which time the said Isabel continued her seisin until the said Thomas’s death. The manor is held of the king in chief as a member of the said barony of Burgh and renders 13s. 4d. for cornage yearly.
Burgh on Sands. A saltwork, whereof they were similarly enfeoffed by the same Thomas; 15s. rent, which William son of Michael de Wilmerby [alias de Wynmereby] held of the said Thomas, and afterwards quitclaimed to the said Thomas and Isabel and their heirs for ever.
Foulwod. 15s. rent similarly held by Walter son of Walter le Neyr and afterwards similarly quit-claimed.
Of which lands &c. the said Thomas and Isabel were in seisin for a year and more, until his death.

HERTFORD. Inq. Monday the morrow of Holy Trinity, 23 Edw. I.
Pyritone. A messuage, 200a. arable, 10a. meadow, 10a. pasture, services of bondmen, 10a. wood, 100s. assised rent, 20s. pleas &c. of court, and a moiety of a water-mill, held of Robert de Pynkeney by doing homage.
Edmund his son, aged 22 and more, is his next heir.
WARWICK. Inq. Tuesday after Holy Trinity, 23 Edw. I.
Solyhull and Makstok. The manors (extents given), whereof a moiety with the advowsons of the churches, held of Sir Hugh de Oddyngeseles by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and the other moiety of Solyhull held of Sir Robert de Pynkeny by socage, rendering to him a pair of gilt spurs at Easter, and the other moiety of Makstok held of the same Robert by service of 1/4 knight’s fee.
Merston and Cotes. Fourteen free tenants who render 36s. 8d. yearly, held of the earl of Oxford for 1/12 knight’s fee.
Arley. The advowson of the church held of Sir Hugh de Oddyngeseles.
Buddebrok. A knight’s fee held by Theobald de Nevyle and John Hastang, and the said William held that fee of Sir Hugh de Oddyngeseles.
On the day he died Edmund his son was his next heir and of full age, but he is now dead. The said Edmund had four sisters Ida, Ela, Alice and Margaret, the youngest of whom, Margaret, was 18 years of age at Easter last; they are next heirs of the tenements aforesaid.
Writ of plenius certiorari on the complaint of Ela late the wife of the said William that the manor of Olton and certain lands &c. in Solihull, whereof she was enfeoffed jointly with her late husband, had been taken into the king’s hand on his death, 12 May, 23 Edw. I.
WARWICK. Inq. taken at Makstok on Tuesday after Holy Trinity, 23 Edw. I.
Olton and Makstok. The said Ela was enfeoffed jointly with the said William of the manor of Olton (extent given), and of tenements in Solyhulle, which are of the fee of Hugh de Oddyngeseles pertaining to 1/2 knight’s fee which is held from him in Solyhulle and Makstok, and of 12d. yearly rent in Makstok of the fee of Sir Robert de Pynkeneye; she was in peaceful seisin for four years and a half until the day of the said William’s death. The said William and Ela acquired the tenements aforesaid from tenants of the said William, which tenements were previously charged with 28s. yearly to the said William and his heirs.
Writ of Privy Seal to the treasurer and barons of the exchequer to search the rolls &c. and certify whether the king ought to have the wardship of the heir and lands of William de Oddingeseles, deceased, by reason of the land lately granted by the king to the said William in Ireland, or not, 8 June, 23 Edw. Writ to Master Thomas Cantock, chancellor of Ireland, and William de Estden treasurer of the exchequer of Dublin, on the complaint of William de Walhope that on the death of John, his brother, all his lands &c. in Ireland were taken into the king’s hand and the wardship of Eleanor and Margaret his daughters and heirs was granted to William de Doddyngeseles, now deceased, and after the death of both daughters without heirs of their bodies the lands &c. were again taken into the king’s hand although he, William de Walhope, is the next heir, commanding them to enquire what lands the said Margaret held who died last, and who is her next heir &c., 7 Aug. 23 Edw. I.
IRELAND. Inq. taken at Dublin on Thursday the octave of St. Michael, 23 Edw. I.
Balihewyl, Baliotire and Balihamund. The king enfeoffed John Walhopp of 5 carucates of land for 30l. of land, to hold of the king in chief by service of a knight; after whose death the same descended to Eleanor and Margaret his daughters and heirs, whose wardship Sir William de Dodyngezeles had by the king’s gift; but after the death of the said Eleanor they descended to the said Margaret, who died seized thereof under age, and were then worth only 15l. by reason of wars and accidents; she held no other lands.
William de Walhopp who now claims the said lands was brother of John Walhopp aforesaid and is the lawful and next heir of the said Margaret, and of full age.
Memorandum (undated). The treasurer and barons say that these lands were originally of the king’s demesne and after the death of Eleanor and Margaret, daughters and heirs of the aforesaid John, they were taken into the king’s hand to the king’s use by the treasurer and barons of the exchequer of Dublin, who hold them until they shall have a writ to deliver them.

BEDFORD. Inq. Sunday after St. Martin, 23 Edw. I.
Wottone. The manor (extent given) held in dower, by the assignment of the said Simon with the consent of William de Bello Campo his father, of the heirs of the barony of Bedford.
As for the heirs of the said barony, Roger, aged 30 and more, son of Maud de Moubray sister of the said Simon, Joan the wife of Ralph Paynel, aged 30, daughter of Ela sister of the said Simon, Isabel the wife of Simon de Pateshulle, aged 24, daughter of Ida daughter of the same Ela, and Elizabeth the wife of John de Horbur’, aged 34, daughter of the same Ela, are parceners of the inheritance with the heirs of the body of Beatrice sometime sister of the said Simon. This Beatrice was married first to Thomas son of Otto, who had by her a son named Otto, now deceased, and a daughter named Maud now aged 26 years and the wife of John Botetourte: after the death of the said Thomas she was married to Sir William de Montecanyso of Edwardestone who had by her a son named William, who if he survives, as the jury believe, is 12 years of age and more. And because the aforesaid Otto survived his mother Beatrice, the jury are doubtful whether her heir by her first or second husband is her heir of the barony, to whom with the other heirs aforesaid the said manor ought to revert.
Mandate under the privy seal, to John de Langeton, chancellor, to receive by attorney the fealty of John Boteturte, who married Maud kinswoman and one of the heirs of Simon de Bello Campo, for her pourparty of the manor of Wutton, and to cause the same to be delivered to him, the king having postponed his homage due for the same until his return from Gascony, where he is on the king’s service, 1 Feb. 24 Edw. I.

HEREFORD. Inq. taken at Leominstre on Monday the feast of St. Valentine, 23 Edw. I.
Ayston. The manor (extent given), including a park, and a tenant who shall find all the iron for the ploughs of the manor and shoe one plough beast in his fore feet, held of Edmund de Mortuomari by service of a knight’s fee, viz.—doing guard at the castle of Wygemor with a barded horse for forty days at his own charges when there is war between the king of England and the prince of Wales, scutage when it runs, and suit of court at Leoministre every month.
Margaret, aged 1 year and more, and Elizabeth aged 9 weeks, are his next heirs.
SALOP. Inq. Sunday after St. Peter in Cathedra, 23 Edw. I.
Kynlet. 20a. land in the park, held of the king in chief for 1/20 knight’s fee, for which he did homage to the king; and 3a. in the same park, held of the king of the fee of Sottesdon (sic) by service of rendering to the lord of Stottesdon a buck yearly.
Brompton. The manor (extent given), including a tower, held of Sir Edmund de Mortuo Mari by service of finding a horseman at Wiggemore in time of war in Wales for forty days at his own charges, doing suit at the court of Wiggemore every three weeks, and rendering him 13s. 4d. yearly.
Bocton. A messuage, 160a. land, 12a. meadow, pasture worth 5s., a water-mill, 30s. rent of free tenants, 62s. rents of customers, and 2s. pleas &c. held of Sir Edmund de Mortuo Mari by service of finding a horseman at Wiggemore in time of war in Wales for forty days at his own charges, and by making two appearances yearly at the said Sir Edmund’s court at Wiggemore.
Weston. 4s. 5d. rent of free tenants held of the lord of Clone by service of making two appearances yearly at the hundred of Posselowe.
Stouw. 4s. rent of free tenants, 5s. rent of customers, and a water-mill, held of the earl of Arundel by service of rendering 6s. yearly and making two appearances yearly at the hundred of Pusselowe.
Stanegge. 80a. land in demesne, 6a. meadow, a park called Ammareslit [alias Ambareslith], a water-mill, and 4l. 12s. 9 1/2d. rents of free tenants, held of Robert de Mortuo Mari by service of suit of court at Stepulton, and finding a foot-man with bow and arrows at Stepulton for forty days in time of war in Wales at his own charges, or 1/2 mark.
His daughters, Margaret, aged 1 year on the eve of SS. Simon and Jude, 22 Edw. I, and Elizabeth, aged 5 weeks on Thursday before the Conversion of St. Paul, 23 Edw. I, are his next heirs.

Endorsed:—With return of the names &c. of those who have occupied the said tenements: John Botetourte who occupied the tenements of Thomas de Staunton, is in the king’s war, and therefore the sheriff can do nothing about him.
GLOUCESTER. Inq. made concerning the lands &c. which were of the said Thomas de Staunton (undated).
Staunton. A messuage &c., 30a. arable in demesne, 1/2a. meadow, 1 1/2a. wood, 24s. 1d. assised rent of free tenants, 13s. rent of customers, works, and pleas &c., held of the king in chief rendering 12s. yearly at his castle of St. Briavell, and being keeper (faciendo custodiam) of the bailiwick of Staunton within the king’s forest of Dene in person, going on foot with a groom (garcione) under him.
He died on Friday before St. Vincent, 20 Edw. I. John his son, aged 13 at the feast of the Purification, 23 Edw. I, is his next heir.
Sir John Botetourte occupied the said tenements, and received the issues from the day of the said Thomas’s death until the feast of the Ascension, 23 Edw. I.
GLOUCESTER. Inq. made at Lideneye concerning the lands &c. which were of the said Thomas de Blakeneye (undated).
Blakeneye. A messuage &c., 11a. arable, a water-mill, 20s. 5d. assised rent, and 1/2a. meadow, held of the king in chief rendering 12s. 2 3/4d at his castle of St. Briavell.
He died on the day of St. Nicholas, 19 Edw. I. Thomas his son, aged 16 at the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 22 Edw. I, is his next heir.
William Hathewy occupied the said tenements, and received the issues from the day of the said Thomas’s death until the feast of the Ascension, 23 Edw. I.

Inneleghe. A messuage and a carucate of moorland (terre morose) and two free tenants rendering 9s. 7d., held of John de Beamond her son in dower, through the death of the said Matthew, and the said John held the same while he lived of the said countess for the service of a knight’s fee, and owed suit at her court at the castle of Plymptone every three weeks.
La Mere in the manor of Tyvertone. 28s. rent from free tenants (names given), held of the gift of Robert de Morceles her father, who gave the same to the said Matthew in free marriage with the said Sibyl, to hold of him and his heirs for ever.
John de Beamond, son and heir of John de Beamond, is her next heir and of full age.
