Barleburic alias Barleburyt. The manor called ‘Adam Chaumbur’ and the park thereto belonging, held by separate enfeoffments of Adam de Gredelyng, rendering for the same to him and his heirs or assigns 40l. and 20l. yearly respectively, whereof he has satisfied the said Adam for the first ten years following the enfeoffments, of the payment of the said rents of 40l. for the manor and 10l. (sic) for the park, the manor is worth 10l. yearly, the court 1/2 mark, and the park 10 marks; these feoffments were made by the said Adam to save (ad salvandum) to the said William his term of ten years.

DERBY; WAPENTAKE OF SCARSDALE (Scarvesdal). Inq. made at Chesterfeld on Sunday after St. Gregory the Pope, 23 Edw. I.
Barleburg. The manor of Adam de Grydeling called Adam’s Chamber (Camera Ade), whereof he was enfeoffed, rendering yearly to the said Adam his heirs and assigns, after the term of 10 years, 40l. He was also enfeoffed by the said Adam de Gredeling of the park of Barleburg, rendering yearly after the term of 10 years 20l.; but the said William was enfeoffed on condition that he should be able to save his term of 10 years, and under such form he died there.

Cukenay. A capital messuage &c., 60a. arable, 2a. meadow, 13s. 4d. rent of free tenants, 15l. 3s. 4d. rent of bondmen (nativorum), 12s. rents of cottars and 3s. 4d. yearly from a warren (conigerie), held of the king in chief, and he ought to shoe (ferrare) the king’s palfrey, if there be need, whenever the king shall come to Mamesfeld [alias Maunsfeld], and if he shall lame (includat) the king’s palfrey, he shall give the king 5 marks and shall have the palfrey: and if there be war in Wales, he shall find the king an esquire with a horse worth 40s. for forty days, and shall find all his expenses.

Knelle. The manor (extent given), including 250a. arable of ‘upland’ and 100a. arable of ‘broke,’ held of the king, because he has taken the barony of Hastyng(es) into his hand, of which barony when it was in the hand of John de Britannia, the said Geoffrey held the manor by service of a knight’s fee, doing suit at his court and rendering 8s. yearly to the canons serving in the castle of Hastynges; and he held in the manor 2 1/2a. arable of the king, of the tenement which was sometime of Sir John Tregoz, rendering 12d. yearly for the same at the manor of Idenne for all service. Of which lands and rents Robert Paulyn of Wynchelese has a moiety by the new statute for the debts of Matthew de Knelle, father of the said Geoffrey.

NORTHUMBERLAND. Inq. made at Newcastle upon Tyne, 3 March, 24 Edw. I.
Little Ryhil. The town (extent given), including 2d. yearly rent from Robert de Ryhil for 70a. land held freely, and 1d. from John son of Hugh and Isabel his wife for 40a. land held freely, held of the king in chief, rendering 20s. yearly at the exchequer of Newcastle upon Tyne, for rents of the county whereof the king and his ancestors were seized through their sheriffs by the hands of the said Richard and his ancestors, who have held the town for a hundred years; and he ought to be tallaged whenever the king tallages his demesne boroughs. He also rendered 14d. yearly at the exchequer of Newcastle for cornage; and rendered 5s. yearly to Gilbert de Humfreyvile, kept one of his dogs for forty days every year or gave him 12d., did for him 40 days’ work in autumn, guarded his moor in Redesdale (valle de Rede) in the month of ….. every year, and aided him in making his eldest son a knight and marrying his eldest daughter; he also rendered 20s. yearly to John de Bydic from the mill.
He died on Monday before St. Bartholomew, 23 Edw. I. Henry his brother is 26, is his next heir.
Writ of certiorari to the treasurer and barons of the exchequer to search the rolls of the exchequer as to whether the said Richard held Little Ryhill by the abovesaid services only or by others, and whether the king or any of his progenitors has ever had wardship during the minority of the heir of any of the ancestors of the said Richard, or not, 3 March, 24 Edw. I.
Return of the barons. Gilbert de Ryhull an ancestor of the said Richard held Little Ryhull by the abovesaid service of the king in chief, and they do not find that the king had wardship thence at any time after the death of the said Richard’s ancestors, because the heirs were of full age. Wardship and marriage are due to the king from all tenants holding of the king in chief by cornage in Cumberland and Westmoreland, but it has not yet been ascertained whether they are likewise due in Northumberland.

Dulverton. A moiety of the manor (extent given), including a hundred (court), held of the king by service of 1/3 knight’s fee; but he had nothing in the manor except through Hawis his wife, who was enfeoffed of the said moiety jointly with one Thomas de Pyn, sometime her husband, by the king for their lives with reversion to the king.
Lydiard Punchardun. A moiety of the manor (extent given) held of the inheritance of the same Hawis, of Sir John de Moyun of the barony of Dunsterr by service of 1/4 knight’s fee.

Sok Denays by Ivelcestre. The capital messuage with a moiety of the manor (extent given), held of the heirs of John de Bello Campo, as pertaining to his barony of Hacche, by service of a fee of Mortain.
Nicholas his son, aged 2 on the feast of All Saints last, is his next heir.
Writ of plenius certiorari on the complaint of Hawis, late the wife of the said Nicholas, who held of John son and heir of John de Bello Campo a minor and in the king’s wardship, that the manor of Dulvreton, whereof she was jointly enfeoffed for the life of either with Thomas de Pyne, her first husband, had been taken into the king’s hand on the death of Nicholas her second husband, 23 April, 23 Edw. I.
SOMERSET. Inq. taken at Taunton on Monday after the Invention of Holy Cross, 23 Edw. I.
Dulverton. The said Hawis was enfeoffed of the manor jointly with Thomas de Pyne, her first husband, as above, by the king by service of 1d. yearly, with reversion after the deaths of the said Hawis and Thomas to the king and his heirs; and she continued her seisin with the said Nicholas her second husband until his death, by reason of which the manor was taken into the king’s hand.

Thomas Fillol, aged 26, is next heir of the said lands &c. held for life by the courtesy of England, by reason of the blood of the aforesaid Margaret, whose heir he is.

[The manor?] a messuage, 5 carucates and 2 parts of a carucate of land, 10a. meadow, a several pasture, 15s. 3d., 1lb. pepper price 7d. and 1lb. cummin price 1d., rents of freemen, 20l. rents of customers, 54s. 10d. rents of cottars whose works are worth 17s. 6d., a windmill, a little grove, and 10s. pleas &c.; whereof the messuage, with 4 carucates of land, meadows &c. held of the earl of Cornwall in chief by service of 1 1/2 knight’s fee, and of finding two men at arms in the castle of Wallyngford if there be war, to wit one man for forty days and another for twenty days, at his own charges; 1 carucate held of John Neyrnuyt for a clove gillyflower at Christmas; and two parts of 1 carucate held of the master and chapter of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England, rendering 33s. 4d. yearly.
The advowson of the church pertains to the said manor.
