LEYCESTER. Inq. 17 Sept. 30 Edw. I.
Medburne. 47s. 2 3/4d. yearly rent (names of tenants given), and 6s. 8d. pleas &c. held of the king in chief by service of 1/20 knight’s fee; a manor there (extent given with names of tenants), held of Thomas de Chaworth by service of 1/4 knight’s fee; and 26a. land in demesne in a place called ‘le Rudde’ of the fee of Ralph de Nevile, service unspecified.
Blacheston. 88a. arable held of Ralph de Nevile, rendering nothing.
Le Holt. The manor (extent given), including a dovecote by the chapel and another by the grange, and cultures called Wambeleye and Gorewong, held of Sarra, one of the heirs of John de Burneby, rendering 1/4d. at Easter.
Prestgrave. A messuage and 1/2 virgate of arable land, held of John del Holt by homage and suit every three weeks, rendering 10d. (yearly); also a cottage and 2s. rent.
Drayton. A culture called ‘le Holt Wong,’ containing 10a. arable, and a virgate of land rendering 1lb. cummin to the heirs of Brinynghurst, and there are there 2a. meadow, and 34s. 4d. rents of free tenants (named).
Brinynghurst. A messuage &c. and 38a. arable held of the abbot of Peterborough by service of 1/3 knight’s fee, and there are 4a. land there in Brinynghurst Brende, 2a. land in Brinynghurst Stubbyng towards Bradeleye, 8a. meadow, and 5a. wood.
His sisters, Maud, Mabel, Alice, and Margaret, are his next heirs, and of full age.
LEICESTER. Inq. made at Melton, 19 Sept. 30 Edw. I.
Kirkeby. [The manor, viz.—] a messuage, 2 1/2 virgates of land in demesne, and rents (extent given with names of tenants), held in chief of John le Wasteneys by service of 1/4 knight’s fee, including (?), a messuage acquired of William son of Laurence rendering 6s., a several pasture called Wasteneys croft with Calvescroft, and 4 1/2a. meadow; a messuage &c. 2 1/2 virgates of land in demesne, and rents (names of tenants given), held of Amaury (Almarico) de Sancto Amando by service of 1/4 knight’s fee; and 100s. 3d. rent from William le Beler, of the fee of John de Deivile, 4a. meadow, pleas &c.; and he owed suit at the king’s hundred of Framelond every three weeks.
His sisters, Margaret, Alice, Maud and Mabel, are his next heirs and of full age.
And he enfeoffed Henry de Dosevile, his heirs or assigns for ever, of 100s. yearly rent from the aforesaid manor of Kirkeby; William Inge of 100s. yearly rent for life to be received of William le Beler; and Nicholas de Dosevile of 40s. for life to be received from the manor of Kirkeby.
CAMBRIDGE. Inq. 11 Sept. 30 Edw. I.
Orewell. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants), held of Sir Alan la Souch by service of a knight’s fee. Margaret late the wife of John de Camoys is dowered of a third part of the manor by the death of John her husband; and Matania late the wife of John de Cobenham holds the manor for life by the demise of Sir William de Kirkeby, rendering to him and his heirs 30l. yearly.

LINCOLN. Inq. taken at Vaudey (vallem dei), 10 Sept. 30 Edw. I.
North Wyme. The manor held of John de Hasting by service of 1/10 knight’s fee; which manor long before his death he gave to John de Houby for life, rendering 20l. yearly, so that he held nothing there but the said 20l. rent on the day he died.
His sisters, Margaret de Hotthorp, Maud de Houby, Alice Prilly and Mabel Grymbaud, are his next heirs and of full age.
MIDDLESEX. Inq. made at Stone Cross (Crucem lapid’) on Monday after St. Michael, 30 Edw. I.
Holeburn without the bar. A messuage and 6a. land held of Richard de Gloucester by suit every three weeks, and rendering 3s. 2d. yearly; a house held of Juliana de Gayton, rendering 4d. yearly; 1a. land held of John de Wheting, rendering 12d. yearly; 52a. arable and 6a. meadow held of the dean and chapter of St. Paul’s, London, rendering 6s. 6d. yearly, and there are there a messuage, 59a. arable, and 6a. meadow; and a garden, 4a. of vineyards and 3a. arable, held for the life of Mabel late the wife of William Grymbald, with reversion to Reginald de Morteyn and Isabel his wife, and to William Tuchet, or the heirs of the said Isabel and William.
West Twyford. A messuage and 100a. arable, 19s. 0 1/2d. rent of freemen, whereof 15s. yearly are rendered to the said dean and chapter, and 32 works, at the lord’s food, in the autumn.
BUCKINGHAM. Inq. 18 Sept. 30 Edw. I.
Stok by Aylesbury. The manor held of the bishop of Lincoln by service of 2 knight’s fees; of which manor a moiety is of the inheritance of Cristina his wife, and the other moiety was sometime in the seisin of Sir John de Kyrkeby, sometime bishop of Ely, who thereof enfeoffed the said William and Cristina his wife for their lives.
Lotegarshale manor. 16l. yearly rent by the warranty of Sir William de Luda sometime bishop of Ely, who warranted to the said William in the king’s court against Mabel late the wife of William Grimbaud for a third part of the manors of Houtone and Branfeld, co. Northampton, which she sought in dower against the said William.
His sisters, Margaret the wife of Walter Dosevill [alias Dosewile], Maud late the wife of Gilbert de Houby, Mabel late the wife of William Grymbaud, and Alice the wife of Peter Prylly [alias Prilli], are his next heirs and of full age.
BEDFORD. Inq. 23 Sept. 30 Edw. I.
Chalvesterne. The manor (extent given), whereof the capital messuage &c. 100a. arable and 8a. meadow, held of Sir William de Ros by service of 1/4 knight’s fee, and the residue held of divers lords rendering 3s. 8d. yearly.

KENT. Inq. 12 Oct. 30 Edw. I.
Stoutynge. The manor with the hamlet of Stanford (extent given) held jointly with Cristina his wife, by the gift and enfeoffment of Robert de Langeton, chaplain, to hold to them and the heirs and assigns of the same Cristina of the lords of the fee, viz.—of Sir Robert archbishop of Canterbury by service of a knight’s fee, doing suit at his court at Canterbury every three weeks.
Margaret Dosevill, Maud Houby, Mabel Grymbald, and Alice Pirly, are his next heirs, but can claim nothing in these tenements on account of the nature of the enfeoffment.
Stoutyng. The hundred, which is of the inheritance of Cristina his wife, held of the king at fee farm, rendering 20s. yearly to the sheriff of Kent.
KENT. Inq. taken at Hehteham, 14 Oct. 30 Edw. I.
Hegheham. A moiety of the manor (extent given) held, of the inheritance of Cristina his wife, of Sir Nicholas de Cryel by service of 1/4 knight’s fee.
Stanstede. A moiety of the manor (extent given) similarly held of Robert archbishop of Canterbury by service of 18s. 6 1/4d., doing suit at the archbishop’s court of Wrotham every three weeks.
Heirs as last above, but they are not heirs of the said Cristina.
HERTFORD. Inq. Thursday the eve of St. Matthew, 30 Edw. I.
Munden Furnivall. The manor with the advowson of the church (extent given), including a park containing 40a. wood, rents of free and customary tenants at the feast of St. Martin called ‘Scorfe’ and the customary tenants owe 44 ‘afferagia’ to Hertford or Ware with 1/2qr. of corn, on four Saturdays between the feast of St. John the Baptist and the Gule of August, and a messuage and 15a. land at Wodecroft of the said William’s acquisition which is not extended because it is charged with 12qr. corn for the life of Richard de Wodecroft, held of Lora late the wife of John de Ulvesflete, daughter and heir of Gerard de Furnivall by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and a pair of gilt spurs, price 6d.
He died seised of the above on Thursday the eve of St. Laurence in the year aforesaid, and the residue of the manor is in the hands of Mathania late the wife of John de Cobham for life.

NORTHAMPTON. Inq. 15 Sept. 30 Edw. I.
Cotherstok. The manor (extent given), including a free fishery, held of the abbot of Peterborough in chief by service of 2s. 10 1/2d. to the said abbot and his successors for the guard of the castle of Rokyngham.
His sisters, Margaret the wife of Walter de Osevile [alias de Dosevile] Alice the wife of Peter Prilli [of Oueresby], Maud de Houby, and Mabel Grymbaud, aged 30 and more, are his next heirs.
NORTHAMPTON. Inq. made at Little Acle, 14 Sept. 30 Edw. I.
Carleton. The manor (extent given) held of the king in chief as of the honour of Berkhamstede by knight’s service and doing suit at the court of Berkhamstede every three weeks.

NORTHAMPTON. Inq. made at Little Ocle, 14 Sept. 30 Edw. I.
Little Acle. The manor (extent given with names of tenants), including 40a. arable of assart towards Stanerne which render to the king 11s. 7 1/2d. yearly by the hands of the sheriff, held of the king in chief by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and doing suit at the hundred of Corby every three weeks, and rendering 1/2 mark (yearly) to the vicar of the church of Brikestok for the advowson of the church of Little Ocle.
Great Neuton. 34s. 3d. assised rent from 3 messuages and 2 virgates of land, 19s. 9d. rent from 2 messuages and 1 3/4 virgate of land in vilenage, and 15s. rent from a cottar, held of William Passelewe in chief service unknown.
Craneford. 2s. 10d. rent from a virgate of land in vilenage held of Theobald de Verdon in chief, service unknown; and certain tenements there are held in dower by Beatrice, late the wife of Henry de Hakelington, of the said William’s inheritance.

NORTHAMPTON. Inq. 22 Sept. 30 Edw. I.
Little Hoghton. The manor (full extent given with names of tenants), including a wood in the chace of Yerdeleye, a free fishery, a dike (fossatum) called Caunberleynesdik held by the abbot of St. James’s rendering 2s. 6d. yearly, and 5a. land in Great Hoghton held by John de Pydyngton and Geoffrey Sench, rendering 6d. yearly; which manor one William Grymbaud sometime held of John de Hastyngges by service of 1/2 knight’s fee and doing suit at the court of Barton every month, and he sold the same to one William de Luda, who sold it to Sir John de Kyrkeby then bishop of Ely, after whose death his right and inheritance descended to William de Kyrkeby his brother, who demised the manor to Henry Spigurnel for life rendering to him and his heirs 20l. yearly; and afterwards came Mabel late the wife of the said William Grymbaud and sought her dower of the said manor against the said Henry, who called the said William de Kyrkeby to warrant, and he warranted and released the said 20l. to the said Henry, with agreement that the said Henry should satisfy the said Mabel for her dower.

SURREY. Inq. made at Suthwerk on Monday after St. Matthias, 30 Edw. I.
Clopham. The said William sometime held the manor, and 20 marks yearly rent from the manor of Kersalton, of which manor he enfeoffed William Aumbezas and Joan his wife and the heirs of their bodies at fee farm for the said 20 marks, to be rendered to him his heirs or assigns yearly; which manors he held of the earl of Hereford (Ertford) and Essex by service of doing two suits at his courts yearly, viz.—one at Ertford and one at Blaunchapeltone in London, wherewith the tenants of the aforesaid manors are charged. And he enfeoffed Thomas Romeyn, citizen of London, and Juliana his wife, and the heirs of the said Thomas, of the manor of Clopham to hold of the chief lords by the services due. And long before his death he enfeoffed William de Medeburne …. and his heirs of the and 20 marks rent, whereof he has been in seisin of 10 marks by the hands of William de Aumbezas, knight, for one term before this inquisition was taken.

SOMERSET. Inq. 22 Aug. 30 Edw. I.
Overe Were. The manor (extent given) was acquired by the said William to him and his heirs of Robert de Gornay to hold of the chief lords of the fee, viz.—of John Apadam, of the inheritance of Elizabeth his wife, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, rendering 6 barbed arrows yearly; and the said William made John de Hampton his attorney to put Anthony de Bradene, his clerk, in seisin of the manor on Saturday after the Ascension in the year abovesaid before the hour of prime (horam prime diei), at which hour John rector of the church of Bren took seisin in the name of the said Anthony, took the fealty of certain tenants, and received 1d. from the customers as recognition. Then came John de Arderne, as bailiff of Sir John Apadam and took seisin in his name, but the said Anthony’s attorney continued his seisin until the morrow of the Sunday following before the hour of prime when the men of the said John ejected the said Anthony’s attorney, who raised hue (and cry); and the said John obtained seisin until Friday after St. Barnabas, when the said Anthony ejected him, and continued in seisin until Tuesday following, when the subescheator took the manor into the king’s hand.
