HARESCOMBE

(1) Roman Villa (SO 84000914), Stockend, is situated on the Cotteswold Sands or Upper Lias Clay at about 450 ft. above O.D., near the head of a combe, one of several within a broad and deep N.-facing valley, surrounded by steep slopes which rise to 800 ft. on the W., S. and E. The source of Daniel's Brook is near by map s.v. Haresfield).
Before 1883, stone had been removed by the cartload and digging into the site had yielded roof and flue tiles, two columns, tesserae, coloured plaster, pottery and a silver coin of Theodosius. All of these are now lost.
