Haig v. Sir W. J. Homan et al.

After hearing Counsel fully in the Cause wherein Robert Haig Esquire is Appellant, and Sir William Jackson Homan Baronet, and others, are Respondents:

It is Ordered, That the further Consideration of the said Cause be put off' till To-morrow.

Davies et al. v. Bush et al:

After hearing Counsel this Day upon the Petition and Appeal of Alfred Eyles Davies, (late an Infant, by his next Friend, but now of Age,) Ambrose Eyles and Jane Parry Eyles; complaining of a Decree of the Court of Exchequer of the 28th of April 1828, made in a certain Cause wherein the above-named Appellants were Plaintiffs, and Elijah Bush, Thomas Serjeant, Charles Mortimer and John Lewis Bythesea were Defendants; and praying "That the said Decree might be reversed, and that the said Cause and Proceedings might be put into the same Plight and Condition as if no such Decree had been made; or that the Appellants might have such other Relief in the Premises, as to this House, in their Lordships great Wisdom, should seem meet;" as also upon the Answer of Elijah Bush and Thomas Seargeant, put in to the said Appeal; and due Consideration had of what was offered on either Side in this Cause:

Decree Affirmed, with Costs.

It is Ordered and Adjudged, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Petition and Appeal be, and is hereby dismissed this House, and that the Decree therein complained of, be, and the same is hereby Affirmed: And it is further Ordered, That the Appellants do pay or cause to be paid to the said Respondents the Sum of Fifty Pounds, for their Costs in respect of the said Appeal.

Bp. Landaff takes the Oaths.

This Day Edward Lord Bishop of Landaff took the Oaths, and also took and subscribed the Oath of Abjuration, pursuant to the Statutes.

Administration of Justice Bill.

The Order of the Day being read for the House to be put into a Committee upon the Bill, intituled, "An Act to amend an Act of the last Session, for the better Administration of Justice, so far as relates to the Essoign and General Return Days of each Term, and to substitute other Provisions in lieu thereof; and to declare the Law with regard to the Duration of the Terms, in certain Cases;" and for the Lords to be summoned;

The House was accordingly adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the said Bill.

After some Time, the House was resumed:

And The Earl Grosvenor reported from the Committee, "That they had gone through the Bill, and made several Amendments thereto, which he was ready to report, when the House will please to receive the same."

Ordered, That the said Report be received on Monday next.

Carnegy v. Scott.

Ordered, That the Cause wherein David Carnegy Esquire is Appellant, and Miss Margaret Scott is Respondent, be heard by Counsel at the Bar To-morrow.

Veitch v. Harvey:

Upon reading the Petition and Appeal of Hugh Veitch, Town Clerk of Leith, and Collector of the Land Tax or Cess of South Leith; complaining of an Interlocutor of the Lord Ordinary in Scotland of the 11th of June 1830; also of an Interlocutor of the Lords of Session there, of the Second Division, of the 16th of November 1830; and also of an Interlocutor of the said Lord Ordinary of the 26th of November 1830; and praying, "That the same may be reversed, varied or altered, or that the Appellant may have such Relief in the Premises, as to this House, in their Lordships great Wisdom, shall seem meet; and that John Harvey, Solicitor in Leith, may be required to answer the said Appeal:"

It is Ordered, That the said John Harvey may have a Copy of the said Appeal, and do put in his Answer thereunto, in Writing, on or before Friday the 31st Day of this instant December; and Service of this Order upon the said Respondent, or upon any of his known Agents in the Court of Session in Scotland, shall be deemed good Service.

Mundell to enter into a Recog ce on it.

The House being moved, "That Alexander Mundell of Great George Street, Westminster, Gentleman, may be permitted to enter into a Recognizance for Hugh Veitch, on account of his Appeal depending in this House, he residing in Scotland:"

Metropolis Police Act, Petitions from Camberwell & Clapham respecting.

Upon reading the Petition of the Church Wardens and Overseers of the Parish of Saint Giles, Camberwell, in the County of Surrey, on behalf of themselves and other the Inhabitants of the said Parish in Vestry assembled, whose Names are thereunto subscribed; praying their Lordships "to modify and amend the Provisions of the Act of Parliament passed in the Tenth Year of the Reign of His late Majesty King George the Fourth, for improving the Police in and near the Metropolis, in such a Manner as shall enable the Petitioners to have a Controul, not only in the Appointment of the Persons whom they pay to protect them, but also over the Expenditure of the large Sums of Money taken from their Pockets for Payment of the New Police:"

Upon reading the Petition of the Members of the United Associate Congregation of Rothesay, whose Names are thereunto subscribed; praying their Lordships "to take the Business of legislating on the Subject of Slavery in the Colonies directly into their own Hands, and to require the Colonies immediately to adopt such Measures as may to their Wisdom seem best fitted to put an end, as soon as will be practicable, to a State of Suffering and Moral Degradation which their Lordships have declared to originate in Injustice and Robbery; to form such Regulations as will remove immediately the more grievous Oppressions to which the Slaves are subject, especially such as interfere with their Religious and Moral Improvement, and thus prepare the Way for their complete Emancipation; and the Petitioners, without presuming to specify what particular Enactments may be required with a view to give the Object they have so much at Heart, the complete Emancipation of their enslaved Brethren, and without One Wish that what Equity or even Mercy requires for any Party concerned should be kept out of view, strongly feel, that in forming every Arrangement the first Place in Importance should be given to the Enquiry, what is due to the Slave, so long withheld from his natural, unalienable Birthright, Liberty:"

Upon reading the Petition of the Inhabitants of Kirkheaton, whose Names are thereunto subscribed; praying their Lordships "to take into their Consideration, at the earliest possible Opportunity, the Subject of Negro Slavery, and to adopt such Measures for its entire Extermination as shall appear to them most expedient:"

Regency Bill reported:

The Earl of Rosslyn (according to Order) reported the Amendments made by the Committee of the Whole House to the Bill, intituled, "An Act to provide for the Administration of the Government in case the Crown should descend to Her Royal Highness The Princess Alexandrina Victoria, Daughter of His late Royal Highness The Duke of Kent, being under the Age of Eighteen Years; and for the Care and Guardianship of Her Person."

And the said Amendments, being read Twice by the Clerk, were agreed to by the House.

Then several Amendments were made by the House to the said Bill.

Ordered, That the said Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.
