Forty knights of the realm. They, with their followers, having determined to build a castle on the confines of Sprucia, in the country of the Saracens, namely of the king of Lithuania (in terra Sarracenorum videlicet regis de lecto), to fight against them and receive Christians, and having assigned certain possessions for its defence and for the maintenance of five chaplains, pray the pope to grant a plenary remission to those who, by next Christmas, give a month's pay of one soldier.

Queen Isabella, the duke of Cornwall, prince of Wales, and earl of Chester, the earl of Lancaster, and the earl of Warwick, founders of the monastery of St. Evroul, in the diocese of Lisieux. Signification that it was founded on certain churches and rents in England, from which, during the wars between France and England, the abbot and convent could receive nothing, and that on account of the mortality in those parts their lands remained uncultivated, so that their rents are lessened, their manors in Normandy have been burned, their goods devastated, and they are obliged, by a recent papal provision, to pay 1062 florins to the papal camera and sacred college. Pope Celestine appropriated to their house the churches of Turkeliston, Belegrava, and Biffelda, in the diocese of Lincoln, but as these churches were and are held by secular rectors the appropriation has had no effect. They therefore pray the pope to appropriate the said churches, or at least Turkeliston and Bisfelda, of their patronage.

Signification that when Adam de Derghougton, clerk of his chancery, obtained, by authority of the ordinary, the church of Somerby, in the diocese of Lincoln, value 10 marks, which had been resigned by John the son of John, who as he believed was unable conscientiously to hold it, and afterwards, in ignorance of an agreement, gave as compensation to the said John at the request of his friends a pension for life But afterwards suspecting that the said resignation had been made at the friend's request he withdrew the pension, which John remitted, receiving a fixed sum in compensation; and afterwards Adam exchanged the church for the moiety of Twenge, in the diocese of York, and subsequently obtained the church of Wikham, in the diocese of Canterbury. Petition is therefore made that he may be freed from the stain of simony and be granted a dispensation to hold the church of Wikham.
