  • 2. This title was conferred on Henry by the Pope in Oct. 1521.
  • 3. 1531 Convocation agreed that the King was "the protector and only supreme head of the Church and clergy of England, next to Christ." In 1534 an Act of Parliament declared him to be "the only supreme head in earth of the Church of England."
  • 4. The chrisom was the baptismal robe—a chrisom child was one that died within a month of baptism and was buried in the chrisom.
