" 12. Note 12, add. More probably refers to smoked beans (vide Carlings in Brand' Popular Antiquities); or possibly is meant for "smoke pence" (vide Note and Queries, 1st Series).

" 36. Note 3, read Hungerford, later on a Sir Edward H. was, etc.

" 37. Gathering on Palm Sunday, cf. corresponding entries on pp. 51, 71.

" 40. Last item but 2, for "lylying" read "tylyng."

" 43. Fourteenth item, "Bokenam" should be "Bokeram."

" 59. The Abbot of Westn. was Benson; he was also the first Dean.

" 72. Last item but five, bokys. Perhaps long-delayed obedience to the orders of 1534 and 1538, for erasing from Church books all mention of the Pope and Thomas à Becket. It was found necessary to repeat the order in 1542.
