Ordered, That the Writ of Error between Lee and Gregg shall be argued, by Counsel on both Sides, Monday come Fortnight.

Governors of Bedlam, and Taylor and Collins.

Upon the Petition of the Mayor and Commonalty of the City of London, Governors of Bedlam, concerning a Writ of Error depending in this House between Taylor and Collins; desiring the Record of the Nisi Prius, of the 13 of May, may be filed, and certified to this House; and complaining of some indirect Carriages in the Proceedings:

It is Ordered, That the Judges of the King's Bench shall see this Petition; and a Stay made of hearing the Business in this House, until they have informed this House of the Particulars complained of.

E. of Southton's House not to be demolished.

Ordered, That the Works about the Earl of Southampton's House be stayed from Demolishing, until further Order of this House.

Ly. Cawfield's Petition.

Upon reading the Petition of the Lady Cawfield: It is Ordered, To be recommended to the House of Commons.

V. C. of Cambridge versus Cawdrey.

This Day Articles were preferred, in the Name of the Vice-chancellor of Cambridge, against one Mr. Cawdrey, One of the Fellows of St. John's Colledge in Cambridge: (Here enter them.)

It is Ordered, That the said Cawdrey shall attend this House forthwith, to answer this Charge; and that, in the mean Time, he forbear to act as Proctor, either by himself or Deputy, of the said University, until the further Order of this House.

Warden and Officers of the Mint, claim to be exempted from Assessments, &c.

Upon reading the Petition of the Warden, (fn. 2) Ministers, and Moneyers, of His Majesty's Mint, in The Tower of London:

It is Ordered, To be referred to these Lords following, to peruse their Patents, and see what Right they have to claim Privilege, in being exempted from Taxes and Assessments; and to report the same to this House:

Preachers at the Fast.

Ordered, That Mr. Anthony Burges and Mr. Sydrack Sympson be appointed to preach before the Lords, in the Abbey Church at Westm. the next Fast-day.

Alford and Smith, in Error.

Ordered, That the Cause between Alford and Smith, upon a Writ of Error depending in this House, shall be argued, at this Bar, on the 2d of November next, at Ten of the Clock in the Morning; at which Time the Parties, by their Counsel, are to attend accordingly.

Ordered, That the Lord Bruce is excused for his Attendance on Tuesday; the Order notwithstanding.

Order for 1000 l. to Ly. Moore.

"Whereas, by Order of 29 Decembris, 1646, One Thousand Pounds was assigned and granted to the Lady Alice Viscountess Moore, in Part of her Lord's Entertainment, out of the Composition of William Bromley, of , in the County of Warwicke, Esquire, whose Composition came but to Four Hundred Twenty-four Pounds, which is but now lately satisfied; and whereas both Houses did order, the [ (fn. 3) 6th of May, 1647,] the Sum of One Thousand Pounds to the said Lady Alice Moore, out of the Receipts at Gouldsmiths Hall, to be paid in Course, of which she hath received as yet not One Penny: It is this Day Declared, and so Ordered, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament, That the said Thousand Pounds, granted by Order of 6 Maii, 1647, be and do continue charged upon, and payable out of, the Receipts at Gouldsmiths Hall, according to the said Order of 6 May, 1647; and that the forementioned Four Hundred Twenty-four Pounds, satisfied unto the said Lady Moore, out of the Composition of the said William Bromley as aforesaid, be accounted in Part of the Thousand Pounds assigned to the Lady Moore out of Gouldsmiths Hall, by the foresaid Order of 6 Maii, 1647: And it is earnestly recommended unto the Commissioners at Gouldsmiths Hall, in Consideration of the Sufferings, deserted and distressed present Condition, of the said Lady Moore, to advance and pay unto her some considerable Proportion of the said Thousand Pounds charged as aforesaid, for her present Relief and Subsistence."

Capt. Penrose to command The Hector.

"Ordered, by the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, That Francis Penrose be Captain of the Ship Hector, designed for One of the Winter's Guard."

Ordinance for Aymes to be Minister of St. Olaves Southwark.

"Whereas divers of the Inhabitants of Olives Southwarke have, by Petition, informed the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, That their late Minister Francis Woodcock, settled there by Authority of Parliament, is deceased; by reason of which, the Rectory became void: And whereas the said Petitioners informed the said Lords and Commons, That the Inhabitants of the said Parish, at a General Meeting, have elected and made Choice of William Ames Master in Arts, a godly orthodox Divine, to be their Pastor: The Lords and Commons do declare, That they do approve of the said William Ames, to be Pastor of the said Congregation of Olaves Southwarke; and it is therefore Ordered and Ordained, by the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, That the said William Ames from henceforth shall have, hold, and enjoy, the said Rectory, and House belonging thereunto, with its Appurtenances, together with all Dues and Commodities usual unto him the said William Ames, for and during his Natural Life, in as large and ample Manner as the said Francis Woodcock did or might enjoy the same; saving to every Person and Persons, Bodies Politic and Corporate, their and every of their Rights to the same: And forasmuch as the present Right of Presentation unto the said Rectory is in the King; it is therefore Ordered and Ordained, by the Authority aforesaid, That His Majesty's Solicitor General do prepare a Grant, imusual Form, of the said Rectory, unto the said William Ames, for and during the Term of his Natural Life; and the Commissioners of the Great Seal are hereby authorized to pass such Grant, so prepared, under the Great Seal; and for so doing, this shall be their Warrant: And forasmuch as the said Parish is large; and the Maintenance and Profits belonging to the said Rectory arising and growing out of many Particulars, which would be a great Trouble to the said William Ames to collect, and an Hindrance to him in the Course of his Ministry, should the Burthen lie upon him; it is therefore Ordered and Ordained, by the Authority aforesaid, That either himself in his own Person, or any Person or Persons by him under his own Hand appointed thereunto, shall have full Power and Authority to demand, collect, and receive, of and from the respective Inhabitants of the said Parish, all such Profits, Maintenance, and Commodities, as may and shall arise and become due to the said Rectory; and them, so received, at the End of every Three Months to pay, upon Accompt, unto the said William Ames, who is hereby settled and established in the said Rectory: Provided, That the said William Ames pay all such First Fruits, Tenths, and Duties, as are due and payable by reason of his Incumbency."

Ordinance to explain the One for Assessments in Bucks.

"Whereas, in the Ordinance of Parliament for charging Sixty Thousand Pounds per Mensem upon the Kingdom, for the Service of England and Ireland, Thomas Theed and John Deverell Gentlemen, amongst others, are nominated and appointed Commissioners for the County of Bucks; and for that they forbear to act, because there are others of the same Name in those Parts: It is hereby Declared, by the Lords and Commons, That Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Theed and Captain John Deverell are the Persons intended and meant to be the Commissioners in the said Ordinance appointed, who are hereby authorized and required to act accordingly; and where, in any Division of that County, the Commissioners named, by reason of their Attendance in the Parliament, do not reside there to put in Execution the said Ordinance, that the Commissioners, in their General Meetings, shall appoint some others of the Number to supply their Absence.

Order for 150,000 l. for Payment of the Army formerly appointed.

"Whereas the Sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Pounds is charged upon the Receipts of the Excise, by an Ordinance bearing Date in May last, for Payment and Disbanding of the Army: It is Ordered, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament, That the said Sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Pounds shall be paid to the Treasurers at War, for Payment of the Army; and the Committee of the Army are hereby authorized to borrow what Money they can, upon the Credit thereof, for Payment of the Army."

Report of the Visitors of Oxford, referred to the Committee for Reformation of that University.

"Resolved, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled,

That the Report of the Visitors, concerning the Visitation of the University of Oxon, be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of Lords and Commons for regulating the University of Oxon, to hear and determine the Business, and to apply effectual Remedies, as the Cases may require."
