Hodie 1a vice lecta est Billa, An Act for the Confirmation and Continuance of Hospitals and Free Schools.

Ld. Abergavenny and Sir Thomas Nevill's Bill.

The Lord Archbishop of Canterbury reported the Amendments on the Bill exhibited by the Lord Abergavenny and his Son Sir Thomas Nevill, Knight.

Which Amendments were read 1a et 2a vice, and allowed of, and Ordered to be ingrossed with the Bill.

Report from the Committee, concerning the Duke of Buckingham.

This Day the Lord President reported to the House some Precedents, which the Committees for Privileges had perused, touching the Message sent Yesterday, unto the Duke of Buckingham, from the House of Commons.

Message to the H. C. for Conference, concerning their Complaint against him.

Whereupon their Lordships debated, how far this Message of the Commons might trench into their Privileges and Freedoms; and then sent unto the Commons for a Conference. But, the Debate having held long, they were risen before the Messengers came.

Committee for the Conference.

The Lords Committees for Privileges, etc. were appointed for the said Conference.

And these Lords were appointed to draw up the Heads of the Conference: videlicet,

Lady Purbeck's Privilege.

Richard Stukley and Theophilus Strange being brought to the Bar; it was objected against the said Richard Stukeley, that he being brought hither by the Serjeant at Arms, to answer his Contempt for attaching the Coachhorses of the Lady Purbecke in Parliament-time, made an Escape.

He absolutely denied the said Attachment to be by his Procurement; and therefore, for that nobody was present to affirm the said Contempt, he was dismissed, until Proof thereof shall be offered unto the House.

Serjeant at Arms's Deputy committed.

And as touching the Escape, he the said Richard Stukeley said, that he came in Obedience to the House, and would have stayed, but that the said Theophilus Strange (with whom the Serjeant had left him in Custody) did assume to warrant his Departure, upon the Payment of Thirty-two Shillings and Eight Fence unto him for his Fees; whereupon he paid the said Thirtytwo Shillings and Eight Pence accordingly unto the said Strange. And he proved the said Assumpsit and Payment, by the Oaths of William Cocke and Sarah Peterson, sworn and examined at the Bar.

Wherefore it is Ordered, That the said Theophilus Strange shall re-pay unto the said Richard Stewkley the said Thirty-two Shillings and Eight Pence, and also that he shall be committed to the The Fleet, during the Pleasure of the House.

Adjourn.
