Lords excused.

THE Absence of the Lord Bishop of Durham excused by the Lord Chancellor, because he is to preach before the King.

The Earl of Castellhaven, videlicet, the Lord Audeley, his Absence excused by the Lord Chancellor, for Sickness.

The Lord Wentwoorth excused the Absence of the Lord Chandois, for Sickness.

The Absence of the Lord Bishop of Landaph excused, for that his Lordship is to preach at Paules on Sunday.

Message from the House of Commons, about Conference; against Priests, Recusants, &c.

Messengers from the House of Commons were called in; who, standing at the Nether End of the House, after Three Reverences done to the State, approached to the Bar; where the Lord Chancellor and other Lords came unto the Bar; where Sir Edward Coke, accompanied with the Lord Cavendish, Sir Foulk Grevill, Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Treasurer of the House, Mr. Secretary Calvert, and many others of that House, delivered to their Lordships the Message to them commanded by the House of Commons:

"That the House of Commons do pray Conference, concerning a Joining in Petition, by Committees of both Houses, unto His Majesty, for the better Execution of Laws against Jesuits, Seminary Priests, and Popish Recusants; and this, by the Nether House, is desired may be with all convenient Expedition."

The Messengers, sent as aforesaid from the House of Commons, being departed, the Lord Chancellor returned to his ordinary Place, or Seat, on the Wool-sack, and declared, that the Message sent from the House of Commons was to pray a Conference, by some Committees of this House, for the Joining of both Houses in a Petition to his Majesty, for the better Execution of the Laws now in Force against Jesuits, Seminary Priests, and Popish Recusants; and thereupon they desire a Meeting and Conference, with all convenient Expedition.

Sub-Committee to search Records for Privileges.

The Lord Archbishop of Cant. declared, that the Lords Committees, appointed to take Consideration of the Customs and Orders of the House and Privileges, &c. have taken some Pains therein; and do desire, that of them a Sub-Committee may be appointed, such as their Lordships have thought fit, and named, To search and view all such Records as, in that Behalf, shall be requisite and necessary; and that the said SubCommittee may freely search in all Offices and Places, where any His Majesty's Records are kept, and have Copies of all Things concerning the Premises; and such Copies as they shall so require to be signed by every Officer, Clerk, or Keeper of the said Records, without Charge to any of their Lordships, or Fees therefore to be paid.
