Queen's Answer to the Address for Negotiations.
The Lord Chamberlain acquainted the House, "That the Lords with White Staves had (according to Order) presented to Her Majesty the Address of this House, agreed to on Wednesday last; and that Her Majesty was pleased to say,
"She would give Order, that an Account of the Negotiations and Transactions therein mentioned should be laid before this House."
Sir W. Hodges, Lottery Tickets, Bill.
Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act to empower the Paymaster of the Million Lottery Tickets to pay to Sir William Hodges Baronet the Money due upon Fourteen Tickets in the said Lottery."
Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House, To-morrow; at Twelve a Clock.
Lillingston versus Constable & al.
The House being moved, on the Behalf of Marmaduke Constable and others, Respondents to the Appeal of Brigadier General Luke Lillingston, "That a Day may be appointed for hearing thereof:"
It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will hear the said Cause, by Counsel, at the Bar, on Friday next, the Sixth Day of this Instant June, at Eleven a Clock.
Message from H. C. with a Bill.
A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Serjeant Richardson and others:
With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for making more effectual an Act, passed in the Eighth Year of Her Majesty's Reign, intituled, An Act for vesting the Estate and Effects of John Coggs and John Dann, Goldsmiths and Co-partners, in Trustees, for the speedier Payment of their Creditors, and for determining Disferences thereupon; and for the more effectual vesting the Estates and Effects of Thomas Pitkin and Thomas Brerewood, still standing out, in Trustees, for the Use and Benefit of the Creditors of the said John Coggs and John Dann;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.
Phillips to be heard against Mathew's Bill.
Upon reading the Petition of Chichester Phillips, of Drumcondrah, in the County of Dublin, in the Kingdom of Ireland, Esquire; praying, "That he may be heard, by his Counsel, against the Bill, intituled, An Act for Relief of George Mathew Esquire, against a Clause in an Act of Parliament passed in Ireland, whereby several Fines and Recoveries, and a Settlement of his late Wife's Estate, are set aside, before the same be read a Second Time:"
It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Bill shall be read a Second Time To morrow, at One a Clock; and that the Petitioner shall be heard, by his Counsel, at the Bar of this House, before the Second Reading thereof; as also may Counsel be heard for the Bill, at the same Time.
Kennedy versus Cumming, Lords of Session to tax Expences.
Upon reading the Petition of Sir Andrew Kennedy Baronet; shewing, "That this House, the Nineteenth of April One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eleven, upon hearing an Appeal brought by the Petitioner, against a Decree made by the Lords of Council and Session in Scotland, on the Behalf of Sir Alexana'r Cumming, did reverse the said Decree, and order the Lords of Session to direct the Expences in the Suits mentioned in the said Order to be taxed according to the Course of their Court, and to be paid to the Petitioner by the said Sir Alexander; and that, on the Fourth of July last, the Petitioner did apply to the said Lords of Session, in order to have the said Expences taxed; but they hitherto have delayed doing thereof;" and praying, "That this House will be pleased to tax the said Expences, or order the Lords of Session forthwith to tax the same:"
It is therefore Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Lords of Council and Session do forthwith tax the said Expences, and direct the same to be paid to the Petitioner, pursuant to the Order and Judgement of this House above-mentioned.
Peirson's Bill.
After reading the Report of the Judges, to whom the Bill for Sale of the Estate of William Peirson Esquire, deceased, was referred:
Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for Sale of the Estate of William Peirson Esquire, deceased, for Payment of an Incumbrance thereupon, and a Debt due from the said William Peirson to Her Majesty, as he was Collector of the Customs at Plymouth."
Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House, on Thursday next.
Palmer's Bill.
After reading the Report of the Judges, to whom the Bill for confirming a Lease made by Jeffery and Robert Palmer Esquires was referred:
Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for confirming a Lease made by Jeffery and Robert Palmer Esquires, for a further Provision for Payment of the Debts of the said Jeffery Palmer."
Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Bill be committed to the Lords following; (videlicet,)
Their Lordships, or any Five of them; to meet on Tuesday the Seventeenth Day of this Instant June, at Ten a Clock in the Forenoon, in the Prince's Lodgings near the House of Peers; and to adjourn as they please.
May's Bill.
The Lord Bishop of Bangor reported from the Lords Committees, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for Sale of some Part of the Real Estate of Baptist May Esquire, deceased, for Payment of his Debts, and for other Purposes therein mentioned," was committed: That they had considered the said Bill, and made some Amendments thereunto."
Which were read Twice, and agreed to; and the Bill ordered to be engrossed, with the said Amendments.
Quakers Bill.
Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for continuing an Act, intituled, An Act, that the solemn Affirmation and Declaration of the People called Quakers shall be accepted, instead of an Oath in the usual Form."
Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House, presently.
Then the House was adjourned during Pleasure, in order to be put into a Committee on the said Bill.
The House was resumed.
And it being moved, "That the House be adjourned till To-morrow:"
The Question was put, "Whether this House shall be now adjourned till To-morrow, at Twelve a Clock?"
It was Resolved in the Negative.
Then the House was again adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the said Bill.
And, after some Time spent therein, the House was resumed.
And the Earl of Wharton reported from the Committee, "That they had gone through the Bill, and made some Amendments thereunto."
Which were read Twice, and agreed to by the House.
Ordered, That the said Bill, with the Amendments, be engrossed.
Adjourn.
