Lords take the Oaths.

This Day John Earl of Anglesey and Banistre Lord Maynard took the Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy, and the Oath of Abjuration, and also made and subscribed the Declaration, pursuant to the Statutes.

Alston versus Alston & al.

Upon reading the Petition and Appeal of Sir Joseph Alston Baronet, and Dame Elizabeth Alston, from a Decree made in the Court of Chancery, by the Master of the Rolls, in Cross Causes, the One and Twentieth Day of July One Thousand Seven Hundred and Four, and several subsequent Orders and Reports, on the Be half of Anne Alston, Clare Alston, Margaretta Martha Alston, Rebecca Maria Alston, and Mary Alston Widow; and praying, "That the said Decree, and Proceedings in the said Court of Chancery, may be reversed, in the Particulars mentioned in the Appeal; and that Proceedings may be stayed in the Court below:"

It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Anne Alston Clare Alston, Margaretta Alston, Rebecca Maria Alston and Mary Alston Widow, may have a Copy of the said Appeal; and shall and they are hereby required to put in their Answer or respective Answers thereunto, in Writing, on Wednesday the Seventeenth Day of this Instant December, at Eleven a Clock in the Forenoon; and that all Proceedings in the Court below be in the mean Time stayed.

Representation of Prade, referred to a Committee.

The House being moved, "To take into Consideration the Representation of the Commissioners for Trade and Plantations, laid before this House the Eight and Twentieth of November last:"

It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Consideration of the said Representation shall be, and is hereby, referred to the Lords Committees appointed to receive Proposals for setting out and encouraging Privateers in The West Indies; whose Lordships are to peruse the said Representation, and make Observations of such Things as they shall think proper to report to the House.

State of Trade and the Fleet.

The House (according to Order) was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the State of the Nation, in relation to the Fleet, and Trade of the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

After some Time spent therein, the House was resumed.

And the Lord Herbert reported, "That the Committee of the whole House had come to the several Resolutions following; (videlicet,)

1. "That an Order be sent to the Lord High Admiral, That there may be laid before this House an Account what Intelligence, in relation to the Fleet, has been sent this Summer from the Secretaries Offices to the Lord High Admiral; and what Orders, upon that Intelligence, were sent to the Lord High Admiral."

2. "That an humble Address be made to Her Majesty, to cause to be laid before this House, Extracts of what Intelligence the Secretaries of State had, from the First of January last, in relation to the Preparations of the Fleet of France; and the Times when they received their Intelligence."

3. "That an Order be sent to the Lord High Admiral, That there may be laid before this House, Copies of what Orders were sent from the Council, or Secretaries of State, to the Lord High Admiral, in reference to the Lisbon Fleet; and what Orders were given by the Lord High Admiral, in relation to that Fleet."

4. "That an Order be sent to the Lord High Admiral, That there may be laid before this House, what Number of Ships were fitted out for this last Summer's Service; and what the Complement of their Men was, according to their Musters, at the Time of their respective sailing; and to what Station they were designed; what Concert was made with the Dutch, for the Service in The Chanel and Mediterranian; and what Number of Ships the Dutch sent to join with us, in Pursuance thereof."

5. "That an Order be sent to the Lord High Admiral, That there may be laid before this House a List of the present State of the Navy, in relation to their Repairs; and what Condition they are in for the Sea-service."

6. "That an Order be sent to the Lord High Admiral, That there may be laid before this House what Number of Men have been sent into the Seaservice, by the several Vice Admirals, since Her Majesty's coming to the Crown."

Which said Resolutions, being severally read by the Clerk, were agreed to by the House.

And his Lordship also reported, "That the Committee desired the House would appoint another Time, for the Committee to sit again."

Then the House made the Orders following:

Address for Intelligence received concerning the Naval Preparations of France:

"It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Lords with White Staves do attend Her Majesty, from this House, humbly to desire Her Majesty, That She will please to cause to be laid before this House, Extracts of what Intelligence the Secretaries of State had, from the First of January last, in relation to the Preparations of the Fleet of France, and the Times when they received their Intelligence."

Order for Papers from the Admiralty:

"It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Lord High Admiral of Great Britain do cause to be laid before this House what Intelligence, in relation to the Fleet, has been sent this Summer from the Secretaries Offices to the Lord High Admiral; and what Orders, upon that Intelligence, were sent to the Lord High Admiral; and also Copies of what Orders were sent from the Council, or Secretaries of State, to the Lord High Admiral, in reference to the Lisbon Fleet; and what Orders were given by the Lord High Admiral in relation to that Fleet: And also, what Number of Ships were sitted out for the last Summer's Service; and what the Complement of their Men was, according to their Musters, at the Time of their respective Sailings; and to what Stations they were designed: What Concert was made with the Dutch, for the Service in The Channel and Mediterranian; and what Number of Ships the Dutch sent to join with us, in Pursuance thereof: As also a List of the present State of the Navy, in relation to their Repairs; what Condition they are in for the Sea-service; and what Number of Men have been sent into the Seaservice, by the several Vice Admirals, since Her Majesty's coming to the Crown."

State of the Fleet and Trade to be considered.

"It is Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That on Wednesday next, at Twelve a Clock, this House shall be put into a Committee again, to consider further of the State of the Nation, in relation to the Fleet and Trade of the United Kingdom of Great Britain."

Adjourn.
