PRAYERS,
Report concerning Libels about the last Prorogation of this Parliament.
The Earl of Alesbury reported, "That the Committee for inquiring after the Authors of Libels have read the Books intituled, Some Considerations upon the Question, whether the Parliament is dissolved by its Prorogation for Fifteene Monthes; The Long Parliament dissolved; and The Grand Question concerning the Prorogation of this Parliament for a Yeare and Three Monthes, stated and discussed; and find them to be seditious and scandalous, and desire the House will be pleased to appoint a Day for reading them and pass their Judgement on them.
"That Samuell Smith, partly by his own Consession and by more clear Proof from Tompson the Printer, and his Servant James Rawlins, hath promoted the printing an unlicensed Book: Three Sheets of which being printed, and the rest acknowledged to be in Copy in the said Smithe's Hands; that a perfect Inquiry may be had, the House be desired to secure Smith, and order him to deliver up the entire Copy, or that his House may be searched for it.
"That Merne hath delivered in Eighteen of the printed Books, intituled, The Long Parliament dissolved; which Books were found in Hancock's Shop."
The House hereupon ORDERED, That Wednesday next is appointed for reading the aforesaid Books.
Also Samuell Smith was appointed to be called to the Bar.
And the Lord Chancellor, by Order of the House, was commanded to ask him for the Copy of that unlicensed Book which he had printed some Sheets of, and demanded that he would produce them.
The said Samuell Smith answered, "That he hath it not, nor knows where it is; that it is a considerable Time since he had it, and he believes it is burned."
Message from H. C. with a Bill.
A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir Eliab Harvy and others; who brought up a Bill, intituled, "An Act for naturalizing Mrs. Alice Rushout, Daughter of Sir James Rushout Baronet;" to which they desired their Lordships Concurrence.
Reneu & al. take the Oaths.
This Day Peter Reneu, Francis Labesse, and Philip Mussard, took the Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy, at the Bar, in order to their being naturalized.
Bill for explaining the Act concerning Popish Recusants.
The Earl of Dorset reported, "That the Committee have considered the Bill for Explanation of an Act, intituled, An Act for preventing Dangers which may happen from Popish Recusants; and think it fit to be engrossed, with some Amendments."
Which, being read Twice, were Agreed to; and the Bill ordered to be engrossed, with the said Amendments.
Bill for further securing the Protestant Religion.
The House was put into a Committee, to take into Consideration the Bill for the further securing the Protestant Religion.
The House being resumed;
The Earl of Bridgwater reported, "That the Committee of the House have made some Progress in the said Bill, and do find that the said Bill does not provide that a Protector of an Infant King of England should have the Oath tendered to him; neither have the Bishops Power to tender it to the King when He comes of full Age: Therefore the Committee do think it fit that it may be referred to the same Judges that prepared this Bill, to draw a Clause to this Purpose, and present the same to this House speedily."
Which the House agreed to, and ordered the same accordingly.
ORDERED, That this House shall be put into a Committee To-morrow Morning, and proceed in the Consideration of this Bill.
