Ordered, That Dr. Collidon shall have a Pass, with his Coach and Four Horses, and Servants, to go into France, and return again.

Message from the H. C. with Ordinances.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir Wm. Lyster Knight, &c.; who brought Two Ordinances, wherein they desire their Lordships Concurrence:

1. An Ordinance for raising Monies, for paying the Forces, in the County of Nottingham.

Agreed to.

Ordinance to discharge Park of 200 l.

2. An Ordinance for discharging Ruben Parke of Two Hundred Pounds.

Read Twice, and committed to these Lords following:

Any Five; to meet To-morrow Morning, at Nine of the Clock.

The Answer returned was:

Answer.

That this House agrees to the Ordinance for raising Monies, for Maintenance of the Forces of the County of Nottingham: To the rest, they will take it into Consideration, and will send an Answer by Messengers of their own.

Votes for a Treaty with the King in the Isle of Wight:

The Earl of Northumb. reported, "That the Committee for Peace Yesterday meeting, to consider of the Votes of both Houses concerning the treating with the King, have made Two Votes, which they offer to their Lordships Consideration.

"The Votes were read, as followeth:

"Resolved,

"That a Committee of both Houses be sent to His Majesty, to acquaint Him with their Resolutions to treat Personally with His Majesty, by a Committee of both Houses, in such Place as His Majesty shall make Choice of, in the Isle of Wight, upon the Propositions presented at Hampton Court, and the taking away of Wards and Liveries, for the settling of a safe and well-grounded Peace; which Treaty is resolved by the Two Houses to be transacted, with Honour, Freedom, and Safety to His Majesty, in the Isle of Wight."

Agreed to, upon the Question.

"Resolved,

"That the said Committee intended to be sent unto His Majesty, to acquaint Him with the Resolutions of the Houses, be dispatched away with all convenient Speed."

Agreed to.

Ordered, That the Earl of Midd. be desired to go to the King, with the Resolutions abovesaid; and to go on Friday next, with a proportionable Committee of the House of Commons.

"Resolved,

"That the Committee intended to be sent unto His Majesty, to treat with Him, shall have Power to treat with His Majesty, in the Isle of Wight, upon such Propositions as shall be offered by Him."

The Concurrence of the House of Commons to be desired herein.

Message to the H. C. with them; and for the Conference about repealing Gen. Skippon's Order to inlist Men.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Dr. Bennett and Mr. Eltonhead:

To deliver to them the Two Votes reported this Day from the Committee for Peace, and also the additional Vote made this Day, and desired their Concurrence; and further to let them know, that this House hath appointed One Lord to go, with a proportionable Number of their House, to the King; and that they may go on Friday next.

2. To desire the Conference formerly desired, concerning the Matter of some Votes formerly sent down, for recalling the Powers given to Major General Skippon, for listing of Volunteers, may be presently, in the Painted Chamber.

Ordered, That this Part of the Message be respited until To-morrow Morning.

Message from the H. C. with an Ordinance to raise Forces, in the Isle of Ely.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir Rob't Pye Knight; who brought up an Ordinance for raising and paying of a Troop of Horse, in the Isle of Ely; wherein their Lordships Concurrence is desired.

Read Twice, and ordered to be committed to the whole House, and taken into Consideration Tomorrow Morning.

The Answer returned was:

That their Lordships will take this Message into Consideration, and return an Answer by Messengers of their own.

Capt. Coplay a Protection, and to assign his Arrears to his Creditors.

Upon reading the Petition of Captain John Coplay; shewing, "That there are many Arrears due unto him, for his Service to the Parliament; and he is in Danger to be arrested:"

It is Ordered, That he shall have the Protection of this House, until the Arrears be paid him, provided he assign over his Arrears to his Creditors.

Assizes put off.

Ordered, That the Judges be desired to put off their several Circuits for the Times appointed; and when they see it convenient, they may present an Ordinance to this House, for putting the said Assizes off for this Vacation.

L. Howard assessed, contrary to Privilege.

Upon Complaint made to this House, "That the Committee at Yorke hath imposed the serving of a Horse and Arms from the Lord Howard of Escricke, contrary to the Privilege of Parliament, being a Member of this House:"

Committee of York, to make him Reparation.

It is Ordered, That a Letter be written, from this House, to the said Committee, to let them know, "That their Lordships wonder at this Carriage of theirs towards the Lord Howard; for which their Lordships do expect Reparations for the same, and restoring of the said Horse and Arms; or else this House will take further Course to bring them to Answer for the said Miscarriage."

Letter from Capt. Batten.

Upon reading the Letter of Captain Robert Batten, Governor of The Holy Island:

It is Ordered, To be communicated to the House of Commons.

Ordered, That the Petition of Sir Lewis Kirke be taken into Consideration, as the Writ of Error depending in this House concerning him shall be.

"An Ordinance of the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, for the levying and raising of Monies, in the County of Nottingham.

Ordinance for raising Money in Nottinghamshire.

"Whereas, by reason of the late Insurrections in the Northern Parts of the Kingdom, and other Dangers threatening the County of Nottingham, great and extraordinary Charges have been necessarily occasioned, for the Defence of the said County, whereunto divers well-affected Persons have voluntarily contributed, by lending several Sums of Money and otherwise, and other Debts have been contracted: Now, for the Re-payment of the said Sums, and for discharging the said Debts, and for the Preservation of the said County, the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament do hereby ordain, That the Committee of the said County of Nottingham formerly appointed, by the Ordinance of Parliament bearing Date the 20th Day of March, Anno Domini, 1647, intituled, "An Ordinance of the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, for raising Monies, to be employed for the Maintenance of the Forces under the Command of Sir Thomas Fairefax Knight," or Three or more of them, shall have full Power and Authority, and are hereby required, to levy and raise, by an equal and indifferent Assessment upon the said County of Nottingham, such Sum or Sums of Money as they shall think fit and necessary for the said Ends and Purposes, not exceeding the Sum of One Thousand Pounds per Mensem, to be reckoned from the 8th Day of July last past, and so to continue for Two Months; and that the said Committee, or any Three or more of them, be hereby authorized and required to execute the same, by all such Ways and Means, and as fully and amply to all Intents and Purposes, as in and by the said former Ordinance is limited and appointed; and that the said Sum of Money, so to be levied and raised as is aforesaid, shall be disposed and disbursed by them, or Three or more of them, for the Re-payment of the said voluntary Contributions and other Debts, and Five Hundred Pounds thereof for the fortifying and furnishing of the Castle of Nott. with Ammunition and Victual, and the Residue thereof for the further Defence and Preservation of the said County: And whereas, by reason of the said late Insurrections, divers Sums of Money, Horses, Arms, and other Provisions, necessary for the Defence of the said County, have been levied and seized, within the said County, the said Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament do hereby declare and ordain, That every Person and Persons who have so levied and seized any Money, Horses, Arms, and other Things as is aforesaid, for the Defence of the said County, upon the said late sudden and exigent Occasion, shall be, by Authority of Parliament, fully and clearly indemnified and saved harmless for and concerning the same, and shall have all such Indemnity, Benefit, and Advantage whatsoever, as is granted and contained in and by any Ordinance or Ordinances of Parliament made for the Indemnifying of Soldiers, or of any others who have acted or done any Act or Thing by Authority of Parliament, or for the Service or Benefit thereof."
