437. MARY, LATE THE WIFE OF ALAN DE CAMBERTON.
Writ of plenius certiorari to Peter Malorre and John de Insula, upon the petition of Thomas de Redeman and John le Venur of Camberton, kinsmen and heirs of the said Alan, showing that whereas the said Mary held a third part of all the said Alan’s lands &c. in Cumberland in dower, by the assignment of the said Thomas and John, the king because she adhered to the Scots, caused all her said lands &c. to be taken into his hand, and now that the said Mary is dead, they pray that the said lands &c. which she held in dower may be restored to them, as heirs of the said Alan, 12 Feb. 35 Edw. I.
Writ of venire facias to the sheriff of Cumberland to provide jurors as required by the said Peter and John, 12 Feb. 35 Edw. I.
Endorsed:—The sheriff was commanded to cause jurors of the neighbourhood of Camberton and Creysothen, whereof four at least to be knights &c. of no affinity to the said Peter and John, to come to Carlisle on Tuesday after Mid Lent, but the inquisition could not be taken on that day for want of jurors. Mary late the wife of the said Alan held a third part of a carucate of land in Camberton, and a third part of a carucate in Creyksothen and Talentir, Waverton [and] Wyndscales.
She died at Frereton(?) in Fyf, in Scotland, about the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 32 (Edw. I), and the petitioners are next heirs of (the said) Alan &c.
Jury panel.
Mandate to the sheriff to have the bodies of the jurors (as in the above panel) on Tuesday after Mid Lent to decide (recognoscend’) what lands &c. the said Mary held, and whether the said Thomas and John are next heirs of the said John or not, and so many &c. whereof four are to be knights &c.
Another jury panel.
