Writ of plenius certiorari, on the complaint of Gilbert, son and heir of the said Richard, that the escheator had taken certain lands held by the said Richard of Isabel de Fortibus, countess of Albemarle, Oliver de Dyneham, William Crispyn, and Milicent de Monte Alto, into the king's hand, on the assertion of certain rivals of his that they were held of the king in chief, 10 March, 17 Edw. I.

A capital messuage, 8 tofts, 7 bovates land, and a fourth part of a water-mill, held of the heir of Sir Robert de Everyngham (now in the king's wardship), by homage and service of 10s. and 1lb. cummin yearly ; 8 tofts and 2½ bovates held of John de Hunkelby for 2 marks yearly; and a toft and 1 bovate held of John de Hothum for 4d. yearly.
Northburton. A toft and 2 bovates held of the provost of Beverle for 2s. yearly and suit of court; and a water-mill held of Robert de Raventhorpe for 1lb. cummin.
Neuton. 4 bovates held of Laurence de Etton for 2s. 6d. yearly.
Geoffrey his son, aged 3½, is his next heir.

Estperet. The bailiwick, held of the king in chief by serjeanty of rendering a mewed sparrowhawk yearly or 4s., and it is worth 26s. 8d. yearly by receiving an ox or 5s. 4d. from disseisors convicted by assize of novel disseisin in the bailiwick.
Wellesle. A messuage with garden, 45a. arable, 5a. meadow, and the foreign hundred of Welles', held of the bishop of Bath and Wells, service unspecified.

Henxton. A messuage, 80a. land, 1a. meadow, &c. held of Sir John de Cammieis by service of ½ knight's fee, and Sir John de Lovetoft purchased the lordship of the said tenement of the said Sir John de Cammeis in fee.

Lady Christiana Musard is dowered of a third part of the whole manor, and Maud Musard of a third part of two parts of the manor.

Nottingham. Inq. Tuesday after the Close of Easter, 17 Edw. I.
Mamesfeld alias Maunsfeld.¼ bovate with a toft held of the king in socage rendering 10d. yearly ; and a toft with 2 roods land, owing no service to the king.
Maunsfeld Wodehus. A toft and three parts of a bovate, rendering 3s. 5d. yearly to the king, and doing suit and service to the king according to the custom of the manor of Maunsfeld, and it ought to be shared (partiri).
His two sons, Jocelyn aged 19, and John aged 14, are his next heirs, and of full age according to the custom of the manor.
Derby. Inq. Wednesday in Easter week, 17 Edw. I.
Le Herdewyk. The manor (extent given) held, with all his lands in the soke of Steynesby, of John le Sauvage lord of Steynesby in chief by service of 3lb. cummin, and 1lb. pepper, and by service of 4d. only.
Sutton en Dal. An assart held of Richard de Grey by service of 1 mark; 1 bovate land held of William Swetmylke by service of 1lb. pepper and 1d.; and a meadow, which he bought of Simon de Glapwelle, doing service of 1lb. pepper to the lord of Steynesby.
Jocelyn his son, aged 19½, is his next heir.

[Norfolk.] Welyngham. A manor (extent given) held of Sir Jordan Foliot by service of 3s. yearly and scutage when it shall happen.
Hereford. Tatington. The manor held of the king in chief, service unknown.
He died on Monday before the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Alexander de Frevill his brother, aged 30 and more, is his next heir.
Mandate from H. de Bray to his sub-escheator in co. Hereford, reciting writ dated 12 Sept. 17 Edw. I.
[Hereford.] Inq. Wednesday before SS. Simon and Jude, 17 Edw. I.
Tadinton. A messuage, 2 carucates land, and 64s. rent, held of the king in chief by service of ⅓ knight's fee of the barony of Cormailes; and 12a. land which he bought of the fee of Monesleye.
Lady Maud de Ebroicis and Baldwin her son and Alexander brother of the said Baldwin were jointly enfeoffed by a charter of the said land &c., excepting the said 12a.
The said Alexander is his next heir, and of full age.

Borstall. A capital messuage; a hide of land called Derhyde, containing 60a. arable and a view, rendering to the king 10s.; a plot of meadow called Quechenewell; 6¾ virgates arable in Borstalle, Brehull and Accle, rendering 48s. 5d. yearly to the king at his manor of Brehull, and doing service there with a man for each virgate 5 works for one day, the whole worth 3s. 4½d.; 3½a. and 1r. land held of Nicholas des Esses; 15a. land held of the heirs of William son of Elias; 6a. land in Hykeford held of John de Aqua; 40s. rent of assize; and the bailiwick of the forest of Bernewod held of the king in chief, for which 40s. are due at the exchequer.

Mogerhanger alias Mouerhanguer. A capital messuage, 176a. arable, 6a. meadow, 1a. pasture, 30a. wood, a fourth part of a water-mill with fishery, customs &c., part held of the heir of Sir William de Ferariis by service of 1/8 knight's fee, and the residue of Sir Ralph Pyrot, Sir William le Latemer, Richard de Budenho, and other lords, to whom there are due 34s. 3d., and to the church for waxscot (ciragio) 6d.
Giles his son, aged 22 at the feast of the Purification in the said year, is his next heir.
Cambridge. Inq. The morrow of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 17 Edw. I.
Trompeton. A capital messuage with a little vineyard &c., 280a. land, 26a. meadow, pasture, 39s. 10½d. rent of free tenants, 60s. 5d. rent of bondmen, 1lb. pepper, 2½lb. cummin, customs &c. held of the heir of Sir William de Ferrariis, now in the king's wardship, by service of 1 knight's fee; a water-mill and 4a. land held of Simon de Cayli, rendering 40s.; and 6a. land held of John Bernard, rendering 4d. and sheriff's aid.
He died in the week before the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in this year, as the jury believe. Heir as above.
Suffolk. Inq. Tuesday after the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 17 Edw. I.
Tudeham. A manor (extent given) held of William de Ferrers, whose heir is in the king's wardship, by service of ½ knight's fee, and 30d. yearly for the guard of the castle of Norwich.

Cambridge. Inq. Friday after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 17 Edw. I.
Cretton alias Gretton. A capital messuage, 160a. land, 3a. meadow, 52s. rent, a windmill, customs &c. held of the heir of Sir William de Ferariis, now in the king's wardship, by service of three parts of 1 knight's fee; 80a. land, 3a. meadow, 88s. 10½d. rent, and 100 works of bondmen, held of the fee of Leycestre, by service of rendering 50s. yearly to the earl of Leycestre ; and a pasture held of the prior of Bernewell, rendering 5s. yearly.

Seuecaump. A third part of the manor (extent given), whereof she was dowered after the death of the said William, but which the king afterwards took into his own hand and retained, because she had married without his licence. The whole manor is held of the king in chief by service of 1 knight's fee.

The manor (extent given) including a pasture called Estdone, and a wood in the forest containing 200a. worth no more than 5s. on account of the dues of the foresters (dangerium forestariorum), held of Sir Edmund earl of Leycestre the king's brother, by service of 3 knights' fees. Eleanor mother of the said John is dowered in this manor.
