He held no lands &c. in the city or suburbs.
He died on 26 September, 10 Richard II. Walter Fitz Wauter, aged 18 years and more, is his son and heir.

LINCOLN. Inq. taken at Spaldyngg, 4 February, 10 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned third part of the manor of Skirbek and the rent in Scryvelby in his demesne as of fee.
He held the under-mentioned third parts of the manors of Malton and Beausolas in joint feoffment with Thomas Percy, knight, Robert de Swynborne, knight, Thomas de Maundeville the elder, knight, Richard de Upston, parson of the church of Symplyng, John, parson of the church of Great Teye, Roger de Wolfreston and Clement Spice, [to them] and the heirs male of his body, by grant of Walter Fitz Wauter the elder, knight, Alexander de Walden, knight, and John Stowe, by a fine levied in the king’s court.
He held the under-mentioned third part of the manor of Flet for life, with remainder to Thomas de Percy, knight, William de Coggeshale, knight, John de Boys, Clement Spys, Richard de Upston, clerk, John Stowe and Alexander del Warderobe for life, and after their deaths to his (Walter’s) right heirs, by grant of John Syward, parson of the church of Great Teye, Hubert de Thorley, clerk, and John Aleyn, by a fine levied in the king’s court.
Skirbek. A third part of the manor, held of Anne queen of England, as of the honor of Richmond, service not known.
Scryvelby. A rent of a sparrowhawk or 6s. 8d. receivable yearly from Sir Robert de Willughby, knight, for a tenement in Scryvelby. The rent is held of the heirs of the lord de Hastyng, service not known.
Multon. A third part of the manor, held of the prior of Spaldyng in chief by service of 28s. 8d. yearly.
Beausolas. A third part of the manor, held in chief of the heirs of Stephen de Wygtoft by knight’s service.
Flet. A third part of the manor, held of the duke of Lancaster by knight’s service.

ESSEX. Inq. taken at Maldon, Monday before the Conversion of St. Paul, 10 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manors of Burnham and Wodeham Wauter, the moiety of the lordship of Maldon and the land called ‘Ultyngge’ in his demesne as of fee.
He held the under-mentioned manors of Crixhethe and Cage jointly with Thomas de Percy, knight, Robert Swynbourne, knight, Richard de Upston, parson of the church of Schimplyngg, John, parson of the church of Great Teye, Roger de Wolferston and Clement Spys, who are all still living, by grant of Walter Fitz Wauter the elder, knight, now deceased, and Alexander de Walden, knight, and John Stowe, who are still living, made by a fine levied in the king’s court in 51 Edward III to him and the aforesaid Thomas de Percy and others and the heirs male of his body, with remainder in default to his right heirs.
Long before his death, to wit, in 3 Richard II, he granted the under-mentioned lands called ‘Brianes’ to Clement Spis for life; and the said Clement was seised thereof and still is, so that Walter had nothing therein except in reversion.
Burnham. The manor (extent given, including a view of frankpledge held on the morrow of the Commemoration of St. Paul) held of the king in chief by knight’s service, as parcel of the barony of Fitz Wauter. Long before his death by his letters patent dated 1 August, 51 Edward III, he granted to Alexander de la Garderobe, who is still living, the office of keeper of his warren everywhere in his demesne of Burnham, with the following fee, to wit, 1 qr. wheat every 8 weeks by the hands of the bailiff of the manor all his life, pasture and custody for 80 of his lambing ewes with the said Walter’s lambing ewes, 40 at ‘le Redewerde’ and 40 at ‘Dombleswyk’, pasture and custody for 3 of his cows with the said Walter’s cows throughout the whole year and hay and pasture for his own horse from the hay and pasture of the manor.
Maldon. A moiety of the lordship, to wit, of fairs, markets and amercements of courts, with other commodities and customs belonging thereto.
Wodeham Wauter. The manor (extent given, including a park with deer, a view of frankpledge held on the feast of SS. Peter and Paul, and a collection of 24s. yearly called ‘castelwarde’), held of the king in chief, as parcel of the barony aforesaid, by knight’s service. Long before his death, by his letters indented dated 27 March, 51 Edward III, he granted the lands &c. in Wodeham Wauter called ‘Parkerestenement’ together with the office of keeper of his park and warren there, to Thomas Wrench, who is still living, for life, to hold of him and his heirs, rendering 3 barbed arrows for taking a doe at Midsummer and receiving 1 bushel of wheat every week of the year, as well as pasture for 6 cows, mares or foals, and for 6 swine and 3 steers, in the park, together with the rest of the fees belonging to the said office. The said lands &c. are held of the abbot of Biliegh, service not known. Afterwards, by letters patent made in 4 Richard II, he granted that the executors of the said Thomas and Alice his wife should have the said lands and office for a whole year after Thomas’s death.
Ultyngge. A parcel of land called Ultyngge (extent given, including perquisites of court), held of the prior of St. John of Jerusalem in England by service of doing two suits yearly to the prior’s hundred of Witham.
Crixhethe. The manor, held of the king, as of the honor of Reyliegh, by knight’s service.
Cage. The manor, held of the bishop of London by knight’s service.
Wodeham Wauter, Wodeham Mortimer and Daunebery. Lands &c. called ‘Brianes’ containing about 60 a. land and 7 a. meadow, held of the abbot of Bilyegh and John Boure separately by divers services.
He died on Wednesday before Michaelmas last. Walter his son, aged 18 years and more, is his heir.

ESSEX. Inq. taken at Hatfeld Regis, Wednesday before the Conversion of St. Paul, 10 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manors in his demesne as of fee.
Schenefelde. Manor called ‘Fitz Wauteres’ (extent given), held of the king in chief, as parcel of the barony of Fitz Wauter, by knight’s service.
Wymbissh. The manor (extent given, including a view of frankpledge), held of the king in chief, as parcel of the barony aforesaid, by knight’s service.
Asshedon. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service as parcel of the barony aforesaid. The manor is charged with 10l. yearly granted by the said Walter, by letters patent dated Thursday before the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, 9 Richard II, to Alexander de Walden, knight, who is still living, for life; and with 40s. yearly granted by the same Walter, by letters patent dated 48 Edward III, to Alice late the wife of Robert …, who is still living, for life.
Little Dunmowe. The manor (extent given, including a view of frankpledge held on Saturday in Whitsun week), held of the king in chief, as parcel of the barony aforesaid, by knight’s service.
Scheryngge. The manor (extent given, including a view of frankpledge held at Easter), held as parcel of the barony aforesaid by knight’s service.
Reyndon. The manor (extent given, including a park of 140 a. and a view of frankpledge held on Tuesday in Whitsun week), held as parcel of the barony aforesaid by knight’s service.
Henham. The manor (extent given, including a view of frankpledge and a park with deer), held of the king in chief as parcel of the barony aforesaid. The manor is charged with 4l. yearly granted by the said Walter, by his letters patent dated in June, 8 Richard II, to John Rykynghal, clerk, until he be promoted to a better benefice. The said Walter also granted to John Waryn of Henham the office of parker of Henham and keeper of the warren there for life, receiving by the hands of the bailiff of the manor 1 qr. wheat every 10 weeks, and also pasture for 5 cows, 2 mares, 1 foal, 20 sheep and 6 swine, and all other fees belonging to the said office.

ESSEX. Inq. taken at Coggeshale, Tuesday before the Conversion of St. Paul, 10 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manor of Lexeden jointly with Thomas de Percy, knight, Robert Swynbourne, knight, Richard de Upston, parson of the church of Schimplyngge, John, parson of the church of Great Teye, Roger de Wolferston and Clement Spys, who are still living, to them and the heirs male of his body, with remainder to his right heirs, by grant of Walter Fitz Walter the elder, knight, deceased, and Alexander de Walden, knight, and John Stowe, who are still living, by a fine levied in the king’s court in 51 Edward III.
Long before his death he demised the under-mentioned manor and advowson of Great Teye to Thomas de Percy, knight, Robert de Swynbourne, knight, Clement Spys, Richard Upston, parson of the church of Schimplyngg and John, parson of the church of Great Teye, who are still living, for life, with reversion to himself and his heirs.
He held the under-mentioned messuage &c. in Great Teye jointly with Robert de Swynbourne, knight, John Seward, parson of the church of Great Tey, Richard Upston, parson of the church of Schimplyngg, and Clement Spys, who are still living, by gift and feoffment of Thomas de Maundevill the elder, knight, now deceased, made to him and the said Robert, John, Richard and Clement, and his heirs.
Lexeden. The manor, with a park there and other appurtenances, which manor is within the borough of the town of Colchester and is held of the king in free burgage, as is the whole town, by doing two suits yearly to the court of Gildehalle of the said town. Long before his death, by his letters patent made in 49 Edward III, he granted to Richard Drynk, who is still living, the office of parker of his park of Lexeden and keeper of his warren there for life, with the following fee, to wit, 3d. a day and a robe of the said Walter’s livery every year (or 13s. 4d. therefor) by the hands of the bailiff there, and also pasture for 6 cows, 12 swine, 12 sheep and 4 mares, with their issue of one year, to be kept in the said park, and pasture and hay for his horse.
Great Teye. The manor, with the advowson of the church, held of the king, as of the honor of Boulogne, by knight’s service.
Great Teye. A messuage, 140 a. land, 12 a. wood and 1 a. meadow, called ‘le Uphall’, held of the king, as of the honor of Boulogne, by knight’s service. The said tenements are worth nothing beyond the 106s. 8d. which Richard Spaldyngg and Margery his wife, who are still living, receive yearly therefrom for the term of their lives.

Writ to the escheator—on information that the above messuage &c. in Great Tye called ‘le Uphall’ (last inquisition) was held by the said Walter jointly with Robert de Swynbourne, knight, John Seward, parson of the church of Great Teye, and Thomas Wrench, by gift and feoffment of John Sewell of Coggeshale, Nicholas Breton, John Mot of Coggeshale, John Anne, chaplain, and Thomas Carleton, citizen of London, made to the said Walter, Robert, John, and Thomas Wrench, and the heirs of the said Walter, by the name of all the lands &c. in Great Teye and Little Teye late of Walter Teye, and not as stated in the above inquisition—to enquire whether this is so. 16 October, 11 Richard II.

NORFOLK. Inq. (indented) taken at New Bokenham, Friday the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, 10 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manors of Hemenhale and Disse with the hundred of Disse jointly with Philippa his wife, who is still living, by gift and feoffment of Richard de Sutton, knight, Richard de Upston, clerk, John Bataille and John Stowe, made with the king’s licence to him and the said Philippa and the heirs male of his body.
Nine years and more before his death he enfeoffed Clement Spice by charter of the under-mentioned manor in Fyncham for life, with the king’s licence, the reversion thereof after the death of the said Clement belonging to him and his heirs; and the said Clement has been seised therein from the time of the said feoffment until now.
Hemenhale and Disse. The manors, together with the hundred of Disse and all other rights and commodities belonging to the said manors and hundred, except the advowson of the church of Disse, held of the king in chief, as of the barony of Fitz Wauter, by knight’s service.
Fyncham. The manor, held of the king in chief by knight’s service.
Date of death as last above. Heir as above, aged 18 years at Michaelmas last.

SUFFOLK. Inq. (indented) taken at Henhowe, 30 January, 10 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned manor of Schimplyngge in his demesne as of fee.
About 1 Richard II he gave his share of the manor of Thurstanton to Richard de Upston, parson of the church of Schimplyngg, who is still living, for life, to hold of him and his heirs by service of a rose yearly at Midsummer, the reversion thereof after the death of Richard belonging to him and his heirs.
Schimplyngge. The manor (extent given, including a rent called ‘castelwarde’, a leet held on Tuesday after Holy Trinity, and a park with deer), held of the king in chief as parcel of the barony of Fitz Wauter.
Thurstanton. The manor, held of the duke of Lancaster, service not known.

CUMBERLAND. Inq. taken at Egremond, Saturday the eve of the Epiphany, 10 Richard II.
He died seised in his demesne as of fee of the under-mentioned third part.
Egremond. A third part of the manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by homage and fealty and service of a third part of a knight’s fee. The extent includes a castle which is waste and in need of repair, a place called ‘Appylgarth’ adjacent to the castle, 3s. of the free farm of the town of Egremond called ‘borghmalis’, a third part of the park, places called Beckermeth, Culderton and Carleton by Egremond, a tenement called Wodend, 2 tenements in Bransty and Corkehill with free [blank] in Bygrig, tenements in Dreg, Ravenglas and Carleton, a fishery with a [blank] called ‘Knotland’, a free chace called Kynisheved, Wascedall with a tenement in Ostethwatt and 2 tenements in Eskedall, 2 mills in Kyner and Wascedall, a third part of the tolls, a plot called Skalgill in Derwyndfell, and a bailiwick called ‘kyngsergand’.

CALAIS. Inq. taken at Calais, 4 October, 13 Richard II.
He held the under-mentioned messuage in reversion after the death of Roger Lynde.
Parish of St. Mary. A messuage in the street called ‘le Vyntrye’, held of the king by service of doing a watch from time to time for the safeguarding of the town, according to the customary practice in the town.
He died on 26 September, 10 Richard II, as the jurors understand. Walter Fitz Warter is his son and heir; age not known because he was born in England, as the jurors understand.

LONDON. Inq. taken at the Guildhall, 22 May, 10 Richard II.
He had and received at the time of his death a pair of gilt spurs price 6d., or 6d. there-for, every year on Easter day, from the prior and convent of the Friars Preachers of London in respect of the rents and gate with the ways belonging thereto and all other liberties etc. formerly belonging to Robert son of Walter, knight, which pertain to the barony of the said Robert near the wall of the city of London by the castle called Baynard Castle within the said city.
He also held the under-mentioned advowson.
