166. JOHN BOULEWAS.
Writ of precipimus, 28 April, 46 Edward III.
SALOP. Inq. taken at Shrewsbury, 7 July, 46 Edward III.
Boulewas and Isembrugge. The manors, with Rodynton, Cherynton, Suggedon, and Caynton (extents given), which have always been parcels of the said manors, and the bailiwick of keeping the king’s forests and hays throughout the county, which has always belonged to the same manors, were in John’s seisin as of fee simple until they were delivered to John de Burleye, knight, Adam Esgar, clerk, and Thomas de la Barre, the elder, in execution of a statute merchant for 1000l. made to them by John his father; and they gave their estate therein to John de Eylesford, his executors and assigns. Afterwards, with the king’s licence, the deceased granted the reversion thereof, after the 1000l. should have been fully levied with damages and expenses, to Hugh de Monyton, Thomas de Burghope, John de Stretton and Roger Partrich, and their heirs, reserving nothing to himself; and John de Eylesford attorned to them. Afterwards, with the king’s licence, they granted the reversion to the deceased and the heirs of his body, with remainder to John de Eylesford and Isabel his wife and their heirs; and John de Eylesford attorned to the deceased. Thus the deceased held the premises on the day of his death as above, having no other estate therein. The manors are held of the king in chief, and have always been so held of his predecessors, by the service of keeping all the king’s forests and hays throughout the county. The lands &c. in Cherynton, Suggedon and Caynton are similarly held. A toft and a moiety of a virgate of land at Rodynton are held of Richard earl of Arundel, service not known.
The deceased died beyond seas on 4 April, 44 Edward III. William de Barton, the younger, aged 24 years and more, son of Isabel his sister, and Maud de Rodenham, his other sister, aged 28 years and more, are his heirs.
John de Eylesford had possession of the premises, except the keepership, by virtue of the said statute, from the time of the death until 21 June, 44 Edward III, when they were delivered to him and Isabel his wife and their heirs, by the king’s writ to William Banastre, then escheator. The keepership was taken into the king’s hand and is still there.
