Church and land of Asgarby by Spilsby (Lincs.): vill given 'in prebendam' by Roger son of Gerold (d. c. 1096 × 98, Comp. Peer. VII 667, 744), conf. by king Henry I 1100 × 05 (Regesta II no. 731 = R.A.L. I no. 58; cf. Regesta II nos. 795, 1841, 1623 = R.A.L. I nos. 57, 56, 59); conf. as preb. by pope 6 Feb. 1146 (R.A.L. I no. 252 p. 199) and 5 June 1163 (ibid. no. 255 p. 205); preb. consisted of 3 carucates (D.B. manor of Ivo Taillebois, D.B. I 351b) in c. 1118 (Lindsey Survey p. 252) and 1162 (R.A.L. I no. 120), and church, first mentioned temp. king Henry II (ibid. II no. 496). Pres. by preb. Dec. 1267 (Rot. Gravesend p. 26), and Oct. 1289 (Reg. Sutton I 126). Occ. as this preb. before and in 1100; royal mand. that he is to be reseised, 1100 × 05 (Regesta II no. 731). Occ. in possession c. 1118 (Lindsey Survey p. 252). Last occ. as this preb. 1126 × 29 (Regesta II no. 1623).

M. Ralph of Caen

First occ. as successor to Robert de Grainvilla in this preb. 1136 × 39 (Regesta III no. 466), and perhaps to be identified with Ralph can. who occ. in L.P. I, of ? c. 1132 (app. 2 no. 38). Still can. 20 Jan. 1159/60 (cart. Kirkstead fo. 109r, cf. fo. 109v). Subdean, from between 21 Sept. 1160 and 19 Apr. 1161; last occ. 1179/80 (list 6). Occ. as this preb.: as can. in 1140s (R.A.L. I no. 132) and early 1150s (ibid. II no. 495, see app. 11); and subdean, Lent 1162 (R.A.L. I no. 120). Presum. transf. to preb. Leighton Ecclesia prob. some time before Feb. 1174 (list 45).

M. William of Southwell (fn. 1)

Still clk. 9 Jan. 1250 (Rot. Grosseteste p. 156). First occ. as can. 26 Feb. 1250 (ibid. p. 118). Occ. as this preb. 1256 (R.A.L. II no. 498 (1)) and 18 Dec. 1267 (Rot. Gravesend p. 26). Also bp.'s official in 1259 and 1260 (ibid. p. 338; Close R. 1259-61 p. 30). Last occ. 28 July 1270 × 29 Sept. 1271 (R.A.L. × no. 2823). Prob. d. by 29 Sept. 1276 (ibid. no. 2786, cf. no. 2788).

Richard de Rothwell (fn. 2)

Still clk. 9 March 1277 (Rot. Gravesend p. 73, date from MS. roll I m. 28). First occ. as can. 2 Sept. 1278 (Rot. Gravesend p. 187). Occ. as this preb. 21 Oct. 1289 (Reg. Sutton I 126). Last occ. in year Sept. 1315 - Sept. 1316 (Edwards, Sec. Caths. p. 333). D. by 8 Sept. 1316 (Reg. II fo. 293r).
