Prayers.

Beere Alston Writ.

ORDERED, That Andrew Barry, Under Sheriff for the County of Devon, be sent for in Custody of the Serjeant an Arms, or his Deputy, for his Abuse, in refusing to make Return of the Writ, issued for electing a new Member to serve for the Town of Beere Alston in the County of Devon.

Higgons' Claims.

Ordered, That all the Members of the House that are of the Long Robe, be added to the Committee to which the Bill concerning Sir Thom. Higgons is committed.

New Towne Writ.

Ordered, That Mr. Speaker do issue his Warrant to the Clerk of the Crown, to make out a Writ, for electing a new Burgess to serve for New Towne in the Isle of Wight, in the Room of Sir Henry Worsley, deceased.

Mildmay's Estate.

A Bill to confirm a Decree made in the Court of Chancery, for settling the Estate of Henry Mildmay Esquire, deceased, was read.

Ordered, That this Bill be read a Second time.

French Commodities.

The House then resumed the Debate of the Lords Reasons to the Vote of this House (to which the Lords Concurrence was desired), for an Address to his Majesty, to issue a Proclamation, to prohibit the Importation of French Commodities.

Ordered, That Mr. Solicitor General, Sir Robert Atkins, Sir Geo. Downing, Sir John Knight, Sir Thomas Clifford, Mr. Millward, Mr. Garraway, Sir Thomas Gower, Mr. Seymour, do withdraw, and prepare Reasons to be returned to the Lords, in Answer to the Reasons by them given to the Vote of this House, for an Address to his Majesty, to issue a Proclamation to prohibit the Importation of French Commodities: To which the Lords Concurrence was desired.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Justinian Lewen and Sir Moundeford Brampston;

Mr. Speaker, The Lords have sent you down Two Bills: One, intituled, An Act for the Naturalizing of Esther Le Lon, the Daughter and Coheir of Gideon Le Lon, Lord of Columbieres in Normandy, the now Wife of the Right Honourable Denzill Lord Holles, of Ifeild; and the other, An Act for Supply of Part of the Jointure of the Lady Elizabeth Noel.

Hemp and Flax.

Sir John Knight reports from the Committee to which the Bill to encourage the Planting and Sowing of Hemp and Flax was committed, several Amendments to be made to the Bill: Which he read in his Place; and after, delivered the same in at the Clerk's Table.

And the Amendments were twice read; and, upon the Question, severally agreed to.

An Amendment being proposed, to insert "Five Shillings per Acre" instead of "Two Shillings and Sixpence," in the Bill.

The Question being put, To agree to That Amendment;

It passed in the Negative.

Resolved, &c. That the Bill, with the Amendments agreed to, be ingrossed.

Supply.

Resolved, &c. That the House will, every Morning at Ten of the Clock, de die in diem, lay aside and adjourn all other Business; and proceed in the Business of his Majesty's Supply.

Journals.

Resolved, &c. That no Persons be permitted to have the Inspection of the Journal Books, but such as are Members of this House.

Misrepresenting Proceedings.

Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a Bill, for Punishment of such Members as shall make Misrepresentations abroad of what doth pass in the House.

Committee of Privileges.

Ordered, That Sir John Fitz James, Sir Robert Barnham, Sir Humfry Winch, Mr. Churchill, Sir Jo. Vaughan, Sir Hugh Bethell, Sir Edw. Hales, Sir Robert Holt, Sir John Trot, Mr. Metcalfe Robinson, be added to the Committee of Privileges and Elections.

French Commodities.

Mr. Solicitor reports, That the Members appointed had withdrawn, and agreed on Reasons to be returned, at a Conference, to the Lords, in Answer to the Reasons by them given to the Vote of this House, for an Address to his Majesty, to prohibit the Importation of Foreign Commodities: Which he opened to the House.

Ordered, That a Conference be desired to be had with the Lords, upon the Subject Matter of the last Conference, upon the Vote for an Address to his Majesty to issue a Proclamation to prohibit the Importation of French Commodities. And Sir Geo. Downing is to go up to the Lords to desire the Conference.

Sir George Downing reports, That the Lords had agreed to a Conference with this House, in the Painted Chamber, To morrow at Eleven of the Clock in the Morning, upon the Subject Matter of the last Conference, concerning the Prohibiting of French Commodities.

And then the House adjourned till To-morrow Morning, Eight of the Clock.
