Prayers.

Preachers thanked.

ORDERED, That the Thanks of this House be given unto Mr. Owen, for his great Pains taken in his Sermon preached before "the Parliament, at Margarett's, Westminster, Yesterday; being a Day set apart for Publick Fasting and Humiliation: And that he be desired to print his Sermon: and he is to have the like Privilege in Printing thereof, as others in like Case have usually had: And that Mr. Gurdon do give him the Thanks of this House accordingly.

Masham do give him the Thanks of the House accordingly.

Mr. Owen, &c.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Commissioners at Goldsmiths Hall, to take care that the Order formerly made, touching settling Maintenance on Mr. Owen, and the other Five Gentlemen formerly named, be performed: And that the said Six Persons be provided for accordingly, out of such Undervaluations of Delinquents Estates as shall be discovered to them.

Suppressing Ranters.

Ordered, That it be referred to a Committee, to consider of a Way for Suppression of the obscene, licentious, and impious Practices, used by Persons, under Pretence of Liberty, Religion, or otherwise: With Power to send for Persons, Witnesses, and what else may conduce to the Business: Viz. unto Mr. Weaver, Mr. Bond, Major Lister, Mr. Garland, Sir Wm. Armyn, Sir James Harrington, Mr. Gurdon, Sir John Bourchier, Sir Peter Wentworth, Mr. Masham, Mr. Hodges, Colonel Bossevile, Mr. Nevill, Alderman Allen, Sir Wm. Brereton, Sir Wm. Allenson, Colonel Ven, Major Salwey, Colonel James Temple, Colonel Downes, Mr. Marten, Mr. Blagrave, Mr. Hallowes, Colonel Jones, Mr. Cary, Mr. Burrell, Mr. Solicitor General, Mr. Salwey senior, Mr. West, Mr. John Ashe, Mr. Humfrey Edwards, Sir Wm. Masham, Mr. Trenchard, Mr. Haies, Mr. Peter Temple, Sir Gilbert Pickering; or any Five of them: And they are to meet this Afternoon at Two of Clock, in the Exchequer Chamber; and so de die in diem.

And the special Care hereof is committed to Mr. Weaver.

The Testimony of Thomas Smyth, in Writing, attested by divers Persons, touching James Claperson, and others, was this Day read.

Ordered, That this Paper be referred to the same Committee; to examine the Business; and report their Opinion to the House: And this Committee have Power to send for Papers, Persons, and Witnesses.

Northern Expedition.

Sir Gilbert Pickering reports from the Council of State, "That this Council hath communicated to the Lord General, and Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, Lieutenant General of the Army, the Order of the House of this Twelfth of June, concerning their going upon the Northern Expedition; and that they have both of them expressed their Readiness to observe their calling of them to this Employment; and that Things are put into such a Course, whereby the March of the Army will be hastened:" And Sir Gilbert Pickering is desired to make this Report.

Mr. Attorney General reports a Commission for the Lord General.

Which was this Day read the First and Second time, and, afterwards, read by Parts; and, upon the Question, passed.

Resolved, That all Commissions already granted by the General, shall continue in Force, until such time as he shall think fit to renew or alter the same.

Windsor Castle, &c.

Ordered, That all Commissioners for Compounding have Power, and be authorized, to put in Execution, and to perform, what is yet remaining unperformed of the Order made 13 Januarii 1648, authorizing the Committee of Sequestrations in the County of Bucks to fell and sell so many decayed Trees and Pollards, and no other, growing upon the Grounds and Woods of the Duke of Bucks in the County of Bucks, to the Value of Three thousand Pounds; whereof Fifteen hundred Pounds was to be paid to Colonel Whitchcott, for Repair of Windsor Castle, and the Residue to go towards the Pay of the Horse Forces in the County of Bucks.

Embassy from Holland.

Mr. Speaker, by way of Report, acquaints the House with the Speech delivered in the House by the Commissioner of the States of Holland and West Freizland; who hath sent the same in Writing, both in French and English, to Mr. Speaker.

Which was this Day read.

Ordered, That Sir Henry Vane, Mr. Marten, Mr. Nevill, Sir Wm. Armyn, and Mr. Challoner, or any Two of them, do presently withdraw; and, upon the Debate of the House, prepare an Answer to be given to the Commissioner of the States of Holland and West Freizland; and bring it in presently.

Cursing and Swearing.

Mr. Blagrave reports from the Committee to whom the Bill against Cursing and Swearing was referred, Amendments to that Bill: Which were twice read.

And, being read in Parts, some of them, upon the Question, with some Amendments, were passed.

Ordered, That the Bill, with the Residue of the Amendments, not already agreed unto, be re-committed; and brought in This-day-sevennight.

Reports deserred.

Ordered, That the Three Reports in Sir Gilbert Pickering's Hands, be made on Tuesday Morning next, after the Report of the Navy.

Carriages for the Army.

Resolved, That it be particularly referred to the Council of State, touching Carriages to be made use of for the Service of the Army, that the same be done with the most Ease, and least Burden, to the People.

Ly. Fairefax, &c.

Ordered, That the Petitions of the Lady Rhoda Fairefax, and the Lady Elizabeth Hussey, be read on Tuesday Morning next.

Army.

Ordered, That Colonel Ven do make the Reports, in his Hands, from the Army, on Thursday Morning next.

Norfolk Weavers.

Ordered, That the Report touching the Weavers of Norfolk and Norwich be made on Thursday Morning next.

Berwick and Carlisle.

Ordered, That the Commissioners for Advance of Monies do forthwith, out of the Monies received, and to come, in, upon Mr. Timothy Carter's Bond, pay the Sum of Five hundred Pounds for the Use of the Garison of Berwick and Carlisle, to such Persons, and in such manner, as is appointed by Order of this House of the Twenty-sixth of February last: And that the Executors of the said Mr. Carter do deliver up the Bond to the said Commissioners, to the end they may the sooner get in the said Monies; and likewise pay such Money as shall come in upon Sir John Wolstenholme's Twentieth Part, for the Repair of the Garison of Carlisle, according to a former Order of this House, of the Eleventh of April last.

Trade.

Ordered, That the Bill of Trade be reported on Wednesday at Eleven of Clock, nothing to intervene: And that Mr. Speaker do then take the Chair.

Embassy from Holland.

Mr. Marten reports from the Committee appointed to withdraw, a Paper, containing an Answer to be given by Mr. Speaker, in the House, to the Commissioner from the Provincial States of Holland and West Freizland.

Which being read;

Sir Henry Vane junior reports from the same Committee, another Paper, containing an Addition to that Answer.

Which was also read; and committed to the Council of State; and to be reported on Tuesday Morning, the first Business.

Resolved, That an Answer from the Parliament to the Lord Gerard Schaeph, Commissioner from the High and Mighty Lords the Provincial States of Holland and West Freizland, be given in Parliament, on Tuesday next, at Eleven of the Clock.

Resolved, That Sir Oliver Fleming Knight, Master of the Ceremonies, do attend the Lord Gerard Schaeph, Commissioner from the High and Mighty Lords the Provincial States of Holland and West Freizland, with the Vote aforesaid.

The House, according to former Order, adjourned itself till Tuesday next, at Eight of the Clock.
