Prayers.

Preachers Thanked.

ORDERED, That Mr. Allen do, from this House, return Thanks to Mr. Thomas Goodwyn, for his Pains in his Sermon preached Qesterday, before the House, at Margaret's Westminster.

Ordered, That Sir James Harrington do, from this House, return Thanks to Mr. Knight, for his great Pains in his Sermon preached Yesterday, before this House, at Margaret's, Westminster.

Ordered, That Mr. Gurdon do, from this House, return Thanks to Mr. Veninge, for his Pains in his Sermon preached Yesterday, before the House, at Margaret's, Westminster.

Navy.

Colonel Wauton reports from the Council of State, a Letter from Colonel Popham, from aboard the Charles, of 27 April 1649.

Resolved, &c. That the Guyny Frigate, be employed for the Service of the State, and added to this Summer's Fleet.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of Captain Thorowgood to be Captain of the said Ship the Guyny Frigate.

Resolved, &c. That those Persons that shall appear to have Interest in the Guiny Frigate, after Adjudication, according to the Act touching Prizes, shall have Satisfaction, notwithstanding the said Ship is employed for the Service of the State.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take Consideration, How the same may be done; and give Order therein accordingly.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take care for securing the Person of Captain Allen, who was Commander of the said Ship; and to examine the Business concerning him; and the Nature of the Quarter given him; and whether the same doth extend to any Crimes committed by him on the Land; and to report it to the House.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to consider, What is fit to be done with the common English Mariners, that have revolted, or sided with the Revolters; and have or shall be taken Prisoners at the Sea; and how they may be disposed of for the Security and best Advantage of the Commonwealth, notwithstanding any former Order or Ordinance of Parliament.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take into Consideration, How the Prisoners taken by the Enemy at Sea, and detained in Silly and Jersey, and elsewhere, may be discharged; and to take Order therein accordingly.

Martial Law.

Ordered, That the Committee do bring in the Act for Martial Law To-morrow Morning; and Mr. Corbett do take care thereof.

Prisoners of War.

Ordered, That the Petition of Elianor Wilson, and Seventeen Women more, in behalf of their Husbands, being Prisoners, touching Exchanging of them, be referred to the Consideration of the Council of State; to take such Course therein, as they shall think fit.

Irish Prisoners.

Ordered, That it be referred to a Committee, to peruse the Ordinances of Parliament concerning such Irish as shall be taken Prisoners; and report the Particulars thereof to the House: Viz. to Mr. Garland, Colonel Rich, Mr. Martyn, Mr. Wylde, Sir William Brewerton, Mr. Trenchard, Mr. Frye, Lord Grey, Mr. Whittacre, Mr. Burrell, Colonel Bosvile, Mr. Baker; or any Three of them: And they are to meet this Afternoon, in the Exchequer Chamber.

Gregory's Claims.

Colonel Wawton reports from the Committee of the Navy, their Opinion, That they think fit, that Twenty Pounds be paid to Captain Wm. Gregory, out of the Monies arising by Prize Goods, upon the old Account, in full Discharge of what is due unto him.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of the Navy, to give Order for some Satisfaction to be given to Captain William Gregorie, out of Monies arising by Prize Goods, upon the old Account, not exceeding the Sum of Twenty Pounds.

University Appointments.

The humble Petition of the Fellows of Guncill and Caius College in the University of Cambridge, was this Day read.

Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of, and appoint Mr. Dell to be Master of Guncill and Caius College, in Cambridge, according to the Desire of the said Petition.

Regulating Universities.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee formerly appointed for regulating the University of Oxon, to take care of the Regulating of the University of Cambridge and Winchester College: And that they be impowered with the same Powers for Cambridge that the Committee had for Oxford; and also like Power for the College of Winchester.

Vane junior, Mr. Garland, are added to that Committee.

Ordered, That the Petition of Robert Maydeson Esquire, Doctor in Physick, against Dr. Arrowsmith, and others, of John's College, in Cambridge, be referred to the said Committee.

Bishops Lands.

Mr. Miles Corbett reports from the Committee for Obstructions in the Sale of Bishops Lands, An Act for the better Sale of the Remainder of the Bishops Lands: Which was read the First time; and, upon the Question, rejected.

Ordered, That the Committee for Obstructions in the Sale of Bishops Lands be injoined to sit this Afternoon: And that the said Committee shall have Power to inquire of any indirect Dealing by any Persons whatsoever, whereby the Sale of the Remainder of the said Lands hath been retarded; and what Contracts have been made, and are not perfected; and how the Money upon such Contracts may be brought in; and report it to the House.

London Poor.

Mr. Garland reports from the Committee touching the Poor, an Act for the Relief and Employment of the Poor, and the Punishment of Vagrants, and other disorderly Persons, within the City of London, and the Liberties thereof: Which, upon the Question, was ordered to be ingrossed.

Grant to the Speaker.

Mr. Garland reports from the same Committee, Amendments to an Act for settling the Rectory, or Parsonage House of Burford in the County of Oxford, and some of the Glebe Land, on Wm. Lenthall Esquire, now Speaker, and his Heirs: Which Amendments were, upon the Question, agreed unto; and the Bill ordered to be ingrossed.

London Poor.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee where Mr. Garland has the Chair, touching the Poor, to prepare an Act, How, and in what manner, there may be Provision made for setting the Poor on Work, in all Counties within this Commonwealth: And that Mr. Challener, Mr. Holland, Sir Wm. Masham, Mr. Goodwyn, Mr. Lister, be added to that Committee: And all that come to have Voices.

Elections and Representatives.

Ordered, That the House do take into Consideration the Business touching due Elections, and equal Representatives, To-morrow Morning, the first Business.

Fens.

Ordered, That the Business touching the Fens be taken into Consideration on Tuesday Morning, the first Business.

Clergy interfering in Politics.

Ordered, That the Act for restraining Ministers, in Preaching or Praying, to meddle with Matters of Government, be reported by Sir Arthur Heslerigg, or Mr. Salway, To-morrow Morning.

Essex Delinquents.

An Act enabling the Standing Committee of Essex to give Discharges to Delinquents in Essex, with whom they were authorized to compound, was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed unto Commissary General Ireton, Colonel Rich, Sir Wm. Masham, Sir Wm. Brewerton, Mr. Lister, Mr. Holland, Mr. Scott, Mr. Rigby, Colonel Moore, Mr. Reynolds, Sir Henry Myldmay, Mr. Leman, Colonel Venn, Mr. Chailener, Mr. Gurdon, Mr. Goodwyn, Mr. Garland, Mr. Millington; or any Five of them: And this Committee are to meet in the Exchequer Chamber, this Afternoon at Two of the Clock: And Mr. Garland is to take care of it.

Captain Morgan.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of Complaints, to take into Consideration the Business of Captain Anthony Morgan; and state it to the House: And, in the mean time, Granting or Taking out of Execution, upon the Judgment obtained against him by Griffith Lloyd, for the Sum of Three hundred Pounds, is hereby staid.

Coxhall, &c. Poor.

Ordered, That the Court of Chancery do proceed in the Business concerning the Poor of Coxhall and Debenham, in ordinary Course; notwithstanding any Order of the late House of Peers to the contrary:
