Prayers.
Great Seal.
ORDERED, That the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal be required to bring the Great Seal into this House this Day: and at such other times, and as often, as they, or any Two of them, shall think fit.
Ordered, That the Lords Commissioners for the Great Seal be authorized and required, from henceforth, to keep the Seal in their own Custody.
Prices of Victuals.
An Act for abating the Prices of Victuals and Corn was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, committed unto Sir James Harrington, Mr. Weaver, Mr. Gurdon, Mr. Rigby, Sir Arthur Heslerigg, Sir Edward Baynton, Mr. Love, Colonel Venn, Mr. Prydeaux, Mr. Hum. Edwards, Colonel Bosevile, Mr. Feilder, Mr. Pelham, Mr. Brewster, Colonel Ludlow, Sir Gregory Norton, Mr. Luke Hodges, Colonel Martyn; or any Three of them: And all the Members of the House, that come to this Committee, are to have Voices: And they are to meet in the Exchequer Chamber, at Two of the Clock this Afternoon: And the especial Care hereof is committed to Mr. Weaver: And to bring in the same on Saturday Morning.
Ship Sancta Clara, &c.
Alderman Wilson reports from the Council of State, The Paper of the Spanish Ambassador, touching Fifty thousand Pounds of the Spaniards, taken by the Parliament out of the Ship Sancta Clara.
Ordered, That it be referred to the Council of State, to take Consideration of the whole Business; and of the Petition of Colonel Manwaring, and Huet Leate; and to hear the Adventurers of the Isle of Providence; and all other Persons who make any Claim to the said Fifty thousand Pounds: and report the State of the whole Business to the House.
Deane Forest.
Ordered, That the Lords Commissioners of the Great Seal do issue a Commission, and name Commissioners, to inquire into the Wastes and Spoils committed in the Forest of Deane; and by whom they have been committed; and to what Value they amount.
Lord Mayor of London.
The House being informed, That the Lord Mayor Elect of the City of London was at the Door, to be presented to the House, according to the Order of this House;
He was called in; and presented by Mr. Proby, Common Serjeant, attended with divers Aldermen of the said City; acquainting the House, That the Citizens of London had, in Obedience to the Order of this House, met; and chosen Alderman Thomas Andrews to be Lord Mayor, in the place of the late Lord Mayor.
Resolved, &c. That this House doth approve of the Election of Mr. Alderman Thomas Andrews to be Lord Mayor of the City of London, in the place of Alderman Reynaldson, late Lord Mayor of the said City.
The Commons of England, assembled in Parliament, well approving of the Election of Thomas Andrews, Alderman, to be Lord Mayor of the City of London, in the place of Abraham Reynaldson, late Lord Mayor of the said City, for the Residue of the Year not yet expired; And it is hereby Ordered, That the Barons of the Exchequer, or any one or more of them, shall give unto the said Lord Mayor Elect the Oath appointed by this House to be taken by the Lord Mayor of London, in the Court of Exchequer: And that the Court of Aldermen of the said City shall likewise administer the said Oath, to enable him to execute the Place of Mayor, to all Intents and Purposes.
The Lord Mayor was again called in: And Mr. Speaker, by command of this House, gave him this Answer;
The Commons, in Parliament assembled, have commanded me, in their Names, to declare unto you, That they do well approve and confirm the Choice of Alderman Thomas Andrews to be Lord Mayor Elect of the City of London: And, out of their Experience of his great Service and Fidelity to this Commonwealth and Parliament, and the Confidence they have of his Abilities for the Discharge of so high a Trust, they are well pleased, that such an eminent Stamp of Authority is so fitly placed: And they have ordered, That he shall be sworn, both in the Exchequer, and in the City, according to your Desires.
Ordered, That the Act for Discharge of the Lord Mayor Escheator of the City of London, and other Escheators, from Payment of Fees for passing Nichil Accompts in the Court of Exchequer, be read on Saturday next.
Grant to Jones.
Ordered, That the Committee of Goldsmiths Hall be required to take especial Care, that there be forthwith paid, out of that Treasury, unto Colonel Michael Jones, or his Assigns, the Sum of Twelve hundred Pounds; in Satisfaction of the Thousand Pounds formerly ordered unto him, and Interest since it should have been paid: And the Treasurers to that Committee are required to make Payment thereof accordingly.
Delinquents.
Mr. Say reports Amendments to the Act touching Delinquents: Which were this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, ordered to be ingrossed.
Ordered, That the Commissioners for Appeals upon Sequestrations shall be the Barons of the Exchequer.
Ordered, That the last Clause of this Act, touching the Appeals, be re-committed.
