Prayers.

Message to Lords.

MR. Wheeler carried to the Lords, for their Concurrence, an Order for Thomas Spademan to be Minister of the Rectory of Althorp in Com' Lincoln: Order for Payment of Interest for the Five hundred Pounds, formerly appointed to be paid to George Thomazine, for a Parcel of Manuscripts: Order for Mr. Osbourne to have Leave to come and depart: Order for Payment of Two hundred Pounds for Mr. Perkins: Order for Payment of Five hundred Pounds to the Earl of Kildare: Order for presenting Names of learned Lawyers to be made Serjeants: An Ordinance for settling the Militia in the City and County of the City of Bristoll: Order for applying Ely House for maimed Soldiers, and Discharging of Edw. Birkhead Esquire from the Penalties upon the Contract for that House.

Answer.

Mr. Wheeler brings Answer, That, as to the Order for making the Lawyers . . . . . they will send Answer by Messengers of their own: To all the rest of the Particulars of the Message carried by him, the Lords do agree.

Hopton's Petition.

Ordered, That Colonel James Hopton's Petition be read on Saturday Morning next.

Sir J. Maynard.

The humble Petition of Sir John Maynard, was this Day read.

Whereas Sir John Maynard Knight of the Bath did heretofore contract with the Contractors for Sale of Bishops Lands, for the Manor of Bugden in the County of Huntington about Twelve Months since; but, by reason of his late great Troubles, could not proceed upon the said Contract: And whereas, since, an Ordinance passed, that all should perfect their Assurances, or otherwise to forfeit a Third Part of their Purchase Money; which said Manor is since sold to Alderman Pack: It is Ordered, That the said Sir John Maynard be, and is hereby, discharged of and from all Penalties and Forfeitures, for not perfecting his Contract for the said Manor within the Time prefixed; the said Ordinance, or any thing therein contained to the contrary thereof, in any wise, notwithstanding.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

Ely House.

Ordered, That the sick and wounded Soldiers shall have the present Use of Ely House, until the Houses take further Order, at such reasonable Rent, by the Year, as shall be agreed on by the Trustees for the Sale of Bishops Lands, and the Treasurers for maimed Soldiers: And that the said Rent, so agreed upon, be paid by the Committee of Lords and Commons, for Advance of Monies, usually sitting at Haberdashers Hall. And, that a Work of so great Charity may have no longer Delays, the said Trustees for Sale of Bishops Lands are hereby authorized and enjoined to cause the Possession of the said House to be forthwith delivered to the Treasurers for maimed Soldiers, and the Rent to be speedily agreed and settled.

And, in regard that Edward Birkhead Esquire, Serjeant at Arms attending the House of Commons, who had formerly entered his Contract, for the Purchase of the said House, with the Contractors for Bishops Lands, hath, by Command of the Houses, relinquished his said Contract, and signed a Release, which stands upon Record; It is therefore hereby further Ordered, That the said Contractors for Bishops Lands, sitting in the Old Jury, London, with whom the said Contract was so entered, do, upon Sight of this Order, release the said Contract on their Parts: And the said Contract is hereby released accordingly; and the said Edward Birkhead discharged from all or any Forfeiture, that he shall or might have incurred by his Non-prosecution of the said Contract; and shall be enabled hereby to receive his Money, with the Interest due, according to Ordinance, as freely as if he had not entered any such Contract: And hereof the said Contractors and Treasurers, and all others, whom it may concern, are required to take notice, and conform thereunto: And, for so doing, this shall be their Warrant.

Reduced Officers.

The humble Petition of the reduced Officers and Gentlemen of Colonel Sanderson's Regiment, was this Day read.

Ordered, That the said Petition be referred to the Committee of the Three Counties of Bucks, Berks, and Oxon, by whom their Accompts have been already stated; to make Defalcation, according to the Direction of the Ordinance, to which their said Petition relates; and to endeavour with them, that the Ten thousand Pounds, ordered out of the Sequestrations at Guildhall, be in full Satisfaction of their whole Debt.

Bishops Lands.

The House being informed, That the Trustees for Bishops Lands were at the Door;

They were called in: And the said Trustees desired, That the Obstructions, touching the Sale of Rectories, late Parcel of the Bishops Lands and Inheritances, may be removed; and presented a Petition, with their more particular Desires therein.

Which Petition (after the said Trustees were withdrawn) was read; and was intituled, " The humble Petition of the Trustees for Bishops Lands."

And the House being informed, That the Contractors for the Sale of Bishops Lands were at the Door;

They were called in: And the said Contractors delivered in a Paper of Obstructions occurring the said Contractors, in some of their Treaties for Sale of Bishops Lands, desiring the Resolution of this House therein.

Which (after they were withdrawn) were read; and referred to the Committee for Obstructions for the Sale of Bishops Lands: Who are to meet this Afternoon; and present the true State of the Business; and report their Opinions thereupon to this House forthwith.

Officers Petition.

Ordered, That the Petition of the Officers of the Army, late under the Command of his Excellency the Lord Farefax, and that came off in Obedience to Authority of Parliament, be read on Saturday Morning next.

Bishops Lands.

Ordered, That the Ordinance for Removing of Obstructions in the Sale of Bishops Lands be read on Saturday Morning next.

Westminster Militia.

An Ordinance for settling the Militia of the City of Westminster, was this Day read the Third time: And

It is Ordered, That Mr. Love do report the Amendments of this Ordinance on Saturday Morning next, the first Business.

Militia.

Ordered, That the general Ordinance, for settling the Militia of the whole Kingdom, be brought in on Monday Morning next.

Excise.

Ordered, That the Ordinance touching the Excise be read on Saturday Morning next.

Revolted Ships.

Sir Henry Vane senior reports from the Committee at Derby House, the Result of the Sub Committee, appointed by the Committee at Derby House, and of the Committee of the Navy, and of several Merchants, and of the Master and several Members of Trinity House, touching the revolted Ships.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee formerly appointed to draw a Declaration to the whole Kingdom, of what Proceedings the House have made towards a Settlement of a well-grounded Peace: With further Power to the said Committee to declare what this House has done towards the reducing of the revolted Ships; and to consider, what is further fit to be done therein: And the said Committee are to meet this Afternoon. And

It is Ordered, That Sir Henry Vane junior, Mr. Green, Mr. Pierpoint, Sir Henry Vane senior, Mr. Lewes, Mr. Reynolds, Mr. Crew, Sir John Potts, Mr. Rolle, Colonel Raynborow, be added to the said Committee: And that the Reports and Result from the Committee at Derby House, and the Sub Committee, Merchants, Master, and Members of Trinity House, be also referred to the same Committee; to consider, what is fit to be done further therein; and to present their Opinions thereupon to the House forthwith.

Navy.

Mr. Green reports from the Committee of the Navy, the State of the Navy.

Ordered, That the Committee of the Army do give Account, Why they do not pay the Twenty-five hundred Pounds to the Committee of the Navy; and give their Answer to the House therein: And it is referred to the said Committee, How the said Monies may be speedily had: And that they return their Answer, and Opinion herein, on Saturday Morning next.-

Strangewaies Delinquency.

An Ordinance for Discharge of Sir John Strangewaies, and Gyles Strangewaies his Son, of their Delinquency, and Fifth, and Twentieth Part, was this Day read the First and Second time; and, upon the Question, re-committed, upon the Debate of the House.-

NavySupply.

Resolved, &c. That the Sum of Four thousand Pounds be charged upon the Excise, in Course, together with Interest, after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Cent. from the Time, as the same shall be set off, upon Credit, by the Committee of the Navy, for the Use of the Navy: And that an Ordinance be brought in to this Purpose.

Ordered, That the last Part of the Report, touching the state of the Navy, be re-committed: And the Committee are to report their Opinions therein to the House, within Two or Three Days.

Isle of Wight.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee at Derby House, and especially recommended unto them, to consider of the present State of the Isle of Wight; and to take some speedy and effectual Course therein for Security thereof, both by Sea and Land.

And Mr. Lisle, and the Hampshire Gentlemen, are desired to attend that Committee this Afternoon.

Message from Lords.

A Message from the Lords, by Dr. Bennett and Dr. Aylett;

The Lords have received some Reports touching the revolted Ships; for Addition of Men to the Ships; Commission of Oyer and Terminer to try Mariners; the Admiral's Letter to Trinity House; and their Answer; an Estimate of the Want of Stores in the Magazine: A Petition of the Earl of Huntington, that he may have Ten Days Liberty of Residence in London notwithstanding the Ordinance of 16 Junii 1648: The Lord Pawlett's Petition, to have Ten Days Liberty of Residence in London, notwithstanding the Ordinance of 16 Junii 1648: Sir Frederick Thinne's Petition to have Ten Days Liberty of Residence in London, notwithstanding the Ordinance of 16 Junii 1648.

The Lords have commanded us to put you in mind of the Lord Cromwell's Petition; and consider of his poor Estate.

The Lords have sent down a Pardon for one John Thurstyn; which they have passed: Wherein they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The Lords require us to put you in mind of the Pardon of Job. Throgmorton, formerly sent from their Lordships: -A Pass for Sir John Dingley, Secretary to the Queen of Bohemia, for himself, Three Persons, and Four Horses, with such Trunks and Cloaths, as are for his necessary Use: Which their Lordships have granted; and desire the Concurrence of this House:-The Petition of divers Field Officers designed for Ireland: Which they recommend to this House.

The Lords command us to put you in mind of an Ordinance for making Mr. Jonathan Lawrence Parson of Upway in the County of Dorsett:-Ordinance for collecting Money for Ireland: Wherein they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Navy.

Resolved, &c. That this House do agree with the Lords That the Ships be full manned, upon this Exigent, for the Reducing of the revolted Ships.

Prisoner pardoned.

A Pardon for John Thurstin, a Prisoner in the Gaol of Winchester, sent from the Lords, was this Day read; and, upon the Question, agreed unto.

The House has considered their Lordships Message: And, as to the adaing Men to the Ships; and the Pardon for John Thurstin; the House do agree: To the rest, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

Cheshire Business.

Ordered, That Cheshire Business be taken up on Tuesday Morning next, the first Business; nothing to intervene: And Mr. Speaker to put the House in mind thereof.

Capt. Veysey.

Ordered, That it be referred to the General, to proceed against Captain Veysey by Martial Law, or otherwise, as he shall think fit.

Defence of Suffolk.

Ordered, That Sir Wm. Spring and Mr. Francis Bacon be desired to go down into the County of Suffolk, to further the Business of the State, in Defence and Preservation of the Peace of those Parts.
