Die Mercurii, 26 Maii, 1647. Dies Publicæ Humiliationis.

Preachers thanked.

ORDERED, That Sir John Bampfield do, from this House, give Thanks unto Mr. Hughes, for the great Pains he took in the Sermon he preached on this Day, at Margarett's, Westminster, before the House of Commons, it being a Day of publick Humiliation: And that he do desire him to print his Sermon: Wherein he is to have the like Privilege in Printing thereof as others, in like kind, usually have had.

Ordered, That Sir Wm. Brereton do, from this House, give Thanks unto Mr. Case, for the great Pains he took in the Sermon he preached on this Day, at Margarett's Westminster, before the House of Commons, it being a Day of publick Humiliation: And that he do desire him to print his Sermon: Wherein he is to have the like Privilege in Printing thereof, as others, in the like kind, usually have had.

Preachers appointed.

Ordered, That * * do, from this House, desire Mr. Cawdrey to preach before the House of Commons, at Margarett's, Westminster, on the next Monthly Fast Day.

Ordered, That Mr. Dove do, from this House, desire Mr. Strickland to preach before the House of Commons, at Margarett's, Westminster, on the next Monthly Fast Day.

Incest, &c.

Ordered, That Serjeant Wilde do, To-morrow Morning at Ten of Clock, report the Ordinance, in his Hand, for the Punishing of Incest, Adultery, Fornication, Drunkenness, Swearing and Cursing.

Poor.

Ordered, That, on this Day Sevennight, the first Business, the Ordinance for the regulating and setting on Work poor and lewd People, be read.

Information against Butcher.

Ordered, That it be referred to the Committee of Kent to examine the Truth of the Information concerning one Nicholas Butcher, that has married his Father's Wife; and to certify the Truth of it to this House.

Blasphemies and Heresies.

Resolved, &c. That, on Wednesday Morning next, the next Business after the Ordinance concerning the setting the Poor on Work, the Chairman of the Grand Committee, to whom the Ordinance concerning Blasphemies and Heresies was referred, do make report of so much as the Grand Committee has resolved upon in that Ordinance: And that the House do take the Consideration of that Ordinance from the Grand Committee into the House: And that the Grand Committee be dissolved, as to that Ordinance: And that Sir Wm. Strickland do then make Report concerning one Biddle, a Schoolmaster of Gloucester, that has written a Treatise against the Divinity of the Holy Ghost.

The Covenant.

Resolved, &c. That the Clerk do give a List to the Serjeant of the Names of all such Members of the House as have not yet taken the Covenant: And that the Serjeant do give them respectively particular Notice, that Wednesday next is appointed for them to take the Covenant here in the House: And that such as shall not be here then ready to offer themselves to take it, shall, from that Time, be suspended from sitting in the House until further Order: And Mr. Speaker then is to put the House in mind of this Business.
