Prayers.

ACcording to former Order, the Grand Committee of the whole House sat, to take into further Consideration the Ordinance appointing the Sale of Bishops Lands.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.

Ordered, &c. That Mr. Holcroft, a Member of this House, shall have Leave to go into the Country.

Ordered, &c. That Sir Henry Mildmay, a Member of this House, shall have Leave to go into the Country.

Ordered, &c. That Liberty be granted to Captain Nutt, a Member of this House, to be examined as a Witness, in the Court of King's-Bench, in a Cause depending there between Hall Plaintiff, and Cork Defendant, upon an Ejectment for Land.

Ordered, &c. That the Assessment for the Maintenance of the Warwickshire and Coventrie Forces, resolved to be kept up upon the last Reducement, be continued for Three Months longer.

Ordered, &c. That the Sub-Committee, appointed by the Grand Committee for the Sale of Bishops Lands to meet this Afternoon, to prepare Instructions for the Concractors, and to do other Matters contained in that Order, and referred to that Committee, be injoined by the House to meet this Afternoon, notwithstanding the Sitting of the Grand Committee; and make Report to the Grand Committee appointed to meet To-morrow at Two post meridiem.

Ordered, &c. That the Committee for the Ordinances concerning the Great Seal, and concerning the Hearing of Causes in Chancery, do meet this Afternoon; and report To-morrow Morning, the first Business.

Ordered, &c. That the Ordinance concerning the Prerogative-Court be reported To-morrow Morning, the next Business after the Ordinances concerning the Great Seal.

Ordered, &c. That, on Friday Morning next, the Ordinance for inhibiting scandalous Ministers be reported.

Ordered, &c. That Mr. Strong be desired to preach the 5. of November next, in Margrett's Church, Westminster, before the House of Commons.

And Mr. Hill is to desire him to do this Service accordingly.

A Letter from the Commissioners of Scotland, from Worcester-house, of 20 Octobris; and Two Papers, inclosed, touching the Votes of both Houses concerning the Disposal of the Person of the King by both Houses; and likewise a Letter from the Commissioners of Scotland, of 24 Octobris; were all this Day read: And

It is Ordered, That they be referred to the Consideration of the Committee that formerly managed the Conference with the Commissioners of Scotland, touching the Disposal of the Person of the King: Who are to prepare an Answer to them; and likewise make Report of that Conference with all concenient Speed: And they are to meet this Afternoon at Four of Clock, in the Court of Wards; and so from time to time, as they shall think fit.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edward Leech and Mr. Page;

The Lords have commanded us to deliver unto you these Three Reports; One, for Captain Swanley to be restored to his former Command; which requireth Expedition; besides, the Ship lies at a very great Charge; the other, for Mark Hawkins, a Merchant; the other, concerning the restoring the Kentish Frigate: To all which the Lords do agree; and desire your Concurrence: Likewise an Ordinance for the Lord Herbert to be Steward of the Duchy of Cornewall in Cornewall and Devon, and Warden of ... Stannaries: An Ordinance for the Lord Edward Howard to have the Custody of the Lord Butler's Person, and of his Estate: A Petition of John Brooke, in the behalf of the Wife and Children of Mr. Abbington: Which the Lords think fit to refer to the Committee of Lords and Commons for Sequestrations: In which they desire your Concurrence.

A Message from the Lords, by Doctor Aylett and Mr. Page;

The Lords have commanded us to deliver unto you an Order: In which they desire your Concurrence. They have likewise sent you their Desire, expressed in a Paper; which is in relation to that Order.

The Order of the Committee of Admiralty and CinquePorts, of 15 Octobris, recommending Captain Richard Swanley to the Approbation of both Houses, that he may be by them approved to be Captain of the Lion, and Admiral of the Irish Seas, for this Winter's Expedition, now sent from the Lords; with their Desire of the Concurrence of this House therein; was this Day read: And

It is Resolved, &c. That this House doth agree with the Lords, in approving of Captain Richard Swanley to be Captain of the Lion, and Admiral of the Irish Seas, for this Winter's Expedition.

Ordered, &c. That the Answer to the First Messengers shall be, That, as to the rest of the Message, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

The Ordinance, sent from the Lords by the Second Messengers, concerning the Quartering of Sir Thomas Fairefaxe's Army; and the Desire of the Lords, expressed in Writing, in relation to that Ordinance; were read: And

It is Resolved, &c. That the Answer to this Message shall be, That this House will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

The humble Petition of divers Inhabitants of the Parish of Whitechappel, whose Names are subscribed, was this Day read: And

It is Ordered, That this Petition be referred to the Consideration of the Committee for Complaints.

Ordered, &c. That the Petitions of Colonel Francis West, Lieutenant of the Tower of London, and Edward Birkhead, Serjeant at Arms attending this House, be referred to the Consideration of Mr. Grimston, Sir Thomas Widdrington, Mr. Prideaux, and Mr. Thorpe; to consider of the Matter of those Petitions; and to prepare some Order upon them; and report it to the House To-morrow Morning.

Ordered, &c. That the Business between Mr. Reynolds and Mr. Nott, formerly referred to the Committee of Examinations, be now referred to the Committee of Complaints.

Ordered, &c. That Saturday next be appointed for the Hearing and Receiving of Petitions only.

Ordered, &c. That, on Friday next, Mr. Reynolds do report the Ordinance concerning the Statute of 35 Eliz.

Answer returned by the First Messengers; That this House hath considered the ..
