Prayers.

Ordered, That, on Tuesday next, peremptorily, the Certificates from the Committee of Accompts, concerning Sir Wm. Uvedale, and others, be taken into Consideration.

Sir Anth. Irby is appointed to carry to the Lords, for their Concurrence, the Ordinances for Discharge of the Delinquencies of several Persons upon Compositions, made at Goldsmythes-Hall, and allowed by this House; viz. Tho. Hudson, James Altham, Esquires, Sir Rich. Stone, Jo. Covert Esquire, Sir Rich. Norton, Sir Humphry Foster, Christ. Rose, Alderman John Clerke of Coventry.

The House being informed, That divers Divines of the Assembly were at the Door;

They were called in: And Doctor Smythe did present, from the Assembly, their humble Answer concerning the Particulars mentioned in an Order of this House, directed to the Assembly, of April the First.

The which was read; and ordered, upon the Question, to be referred to the Consideration of the Committee of the whole House for the Matters of Religion.

According to a former Order of this House, the House was resolved into a Committee, to take into further Consideration the Business concerning such as are not to be admitted to the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper.

Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair: And,

Upon Mr. Scawen's Report, from the Committee of the Army; and that they had advised herein with the Committee of both Kingdoms;

It is, upon the Question, Ordered, That the Order Yesterday made concerning the sending the Kentish Soldiers now at Gravesend, by Sea, to recruit Colonel Welden's Regiment, with Sir Wm. Waller, be vacated: And that these Soldiers be brought to their appointed Rendezvous.

Ordered, That the Gentlemen of Kent do forthwith give Order and Directions, That the Kentish Soldiers, now at Gravesend, may be speedily brought from Gravesend to Staines by Water, to the Rendezvous appointed by Sir Tho. Fairefaxe.

A Letter from Sir Tho. Fairefaxe, from Windesore, of April 9, was this Day read.

Ordered, That Sir Wm. Massam, Sir Martin Lumley, Sir Tho. Cheeke, Sir Hen. Mildmay, Mr. Grimston, and the rest of the Gentlemen of the Committee of Essex, be desired to take Order for the present Advance of Five hundred Pounds, to be employed towards a Fortnight's Pay to such Officers as shall go off upon the Reducement by the new Model: And that the said Five hundred Pounds, together with Consideration for the same, during the Time of the Forbearance, after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Cent. shall be secured and repaid out of the Excise, after the Monies already assigned, in case that the said Five hundred Pounds shall not be satisfied and paid out of the Arrears of the weekly Assessments, Fifth, and Twentieth-Parts, and Third-Part, of the Sequestrations due before January last past in the said County of Essex: And that a Receipt, under the Hand of Mr. Francis Allen and Mr. John Dethick, shall be a sufficient Warrant for the Persons advancing the said Five hundred Pounds to demand the Repayment thereof.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Edw. Leech and Mr. Page;

The Lords desire a Conference, by Committees of both Houses, presently, in the Painted Chamber, if it may stand with the Conveniency of this House, concerning the Earl of Warwick's laying down his Commission for Admiral.

Answer returned by the same Messengers; That this House has considered their Lordships Message; and will give a present Meeting at a Conference, by a Committee of the whole House, as is desired.

Mr. Holles, Sir Peter Wentworth, Sir Walt. Erle, Mr. Reynolds, are appointed Reporters of this Conference.

Ordered, That Sir Gilbert Gerard do make Report, from the Committee of both Kingdoms, the Business concerning Sir Wm. Waller and Colonel Massie, so soon as the States Ambassadors have had Audience.

The House having Yesterday appointed to give Audience this Day to the States Ambassadors; and the House being informed, That accordingly they attended at the Court of Wards;

The Serjeant was sent from the House, to attend them hither.

Whither they came, accompanied with the Master of the Ceremonies.

And Three Chairs being set, as formerly, they took their Places: And Monsieur Boroel delivered, by Word of Mouth, in French, their Desire of taking their Leave, and returning to their Lords that sent them: And then delivered a Paper, in French, which contained what he had delivered by Word of Mouth.

Resolved, &c. That it be referred to the Committee of both Kingdoms, to consider what is fit to be done upon this Paper, presented this Day to the Houses by the States Ambassadors, in the same manner as the former Paper was referred; and, upon the Consideration of these Papers, and of the whole Transaction between the Two Houses and the States Ambassadors, to make a full Narrative.

The Lords Concurrence to be desired herein.

That the Members of this House, that can contribute any Intelligence to this Business, do present it to this Committee: And that the Clerk do send to this Committee the Proceedings with the States Ambassadors.

Ordered, That the Ordinance concerning the County of Derby be read on Monday next.

Ordered, That all Officers and Commanders of the Army under the Command of Sir Thomas Fairfax be injoined to be at their Charges on Saturday next, peremptorily: And Sir Thomas Fairfax is hereby required to cashier such Officers or Commanders as shall make Default, or neglect to be at their Charges upon the Time appointed in this Order, and to make others in their Places: And that this Order be published by Beat of Drum, and Sound of Trumpet: And it is referred to the Committee of the Militia in London, to give present Order for the Publishing thereof accordingly.

Ordered, That the Commissioners of the Excise do immediately, upon Sight hereof, pay unto Gualter Frost Esquire, one of the Secretaries of the Committee for both Kingdoms, the Two thousand Pounds formerly assigned to the Horse of my Lord General's that submitted themselves in pursuance of an Ordinance of Parliament, formerly passed both Houses, to that Purpose.

Mr. Ash and Mr. Stephens are to acquaint the Commissioners of the Excise with this Order, and of the Necessity of the present Payment of the Two thousand Pounds herein mentioned.
