Foreign playing Cards.

AN Act for the Prohibiting the Importation of foreign playing Cards: Upon Question, committed unto the Committee for Naturalizations: And are to meet the second Tuesday in Michaelmas Term, in the Star-chamber.

Publishing Proceedings of Parliament.

Ordered, That T. Harper in Little Britain, Edw. Griffin in the Old Bailey, Paine and Symonds in Red-crossstreet, Wm. Cooke and Lawrance Chapman, be sent for, to give their Attendance upon the Committee for the Bill for Printing: And That Committee has likewise Power, not only to consider of what Passages of this House has been printed, or by whom, but also to inquire after those that have published the Occurrences of Parliament in Writing: And to take into Consideration the Petition of the Masters and Workmen Printers of London.

Mr. Selden and Mr. Grimston are added to this Committee.

Disarming Recusants.

Ordered, That Mr. Strode go with this Message to their Lordships, when they are set:

To desire their Lordships Resolution concerning the Conference the other Day, touching the Disarming of Recusants.

Proceedings concerning Bryherst.

Sir Tho. Barrington reports the Business between Sir Wm. Bryherst and Mr. Beverley, concerning the Assess ing of the Poll-money:

Beverley charges Sir Wm. Bryherst, that he misreported the Estates of such as were to be assessed to the Poll-money; and, by Name, one Shepherd.

The next; That he would not assent, That one Mr. Pygott should be charged above Four Pounds Goods, though it was said at the Committee, that his Estate was worth Eight thousand Pounds; the same Pygott being a near Friend of his, and a Co-deputy Lieutenant with him: The Reason given at the Committee; because Mr. Beverley was assessed but at Four Pounds Land.

That Sir Wm. and Beverley being joint Commissioners, that Sir Wm. caused Two Gambells, Two of his Neighbours, to be charged at Five Shillings apiece; which, after, by other Commissioners, were assessed at Forty Shillings apiece.

That, at this Meeting, he gave him ill Words, and denied him the Perusal of the Estreats, and the Rolls; especially that Roll, that concerned his own Town: Beverley pressing him instantly for that Roll, upon Multiplication of Words, Bryherst told him, he was an impudent Fellow; and,... "though you send your Man for it, you shall not have it."

Resolved, upon the Question, That Sir Wm. Bryherst shall be brought in to the Bar, and there receive a sharp Reprehension; and then be discharged from any farther Restraint.

Sir Wm. Bryherst was accordingly called in: And, kneeling at the Bar, Mr. Speaker, by Order of the House, laid before him the Nature of his Offence, and sharply reprehended him for it: And so he was ordered to be discharged.

Disarming Recusants.

Mr. Strode brings Answer, that the Lords do agree in the Matter of Disarming of Recusants: But, concerning the Manner, they will send Answer by Messengers of their own.

A Message from the Lords, by Sir Ro. Rich. and Mr. Page;

The Lords desire a free Conference, by a Committee of both Houses, presently, in the Painted Chamber, if it may stand with the Conveniency * *, concerning the Disarming of Recusants.

Answer returned, by the same Messengers;

This House has taken into Consideration their Lordships Message, and will give a present Meeting, as is desired.

Mr. Pym, * Hollis, * Barrington, * Crewe, * Solicitor, * Martin, * Cage, * Strode, are appointed Reporters of this Conference.

Mr. Willmott, &c.

Ordered, That the Business concerning Mr. Willmott, &c. shall be taken into Consideration on Tuesday Morning next at Nine of Clock peremptorily: And Mr. Speaker is to put the House in mind of this Order.

Mr. Pym reports the free Conference:

Disarming Recusants.

"Earl of Warwick- That whereas this House propounded Propositions concerning the Disarming of Recusants, their Lordships agreed with the Matter; but desired a free Conference concerning the Manner."

"It was remembered by another Lord, that the Manner likewise was propounded; which was, to send down Men Commissioners into all the Counties, to see it done."

They desired of this House to consider, what Men to send down: And they did fully agree to the Manner."

Mr. Pym is to go up to the Lords, to acquaint them, that this House cannot be ready to come up to the Lords, upon the Matter of disarming Recusants, this Morning; and that they are now upon it; and will put it in such a Way, as, they hope, they shall be ready to come up upon it by the next Meeting.

Resolved, upon the Question, That Mr. Jo. Moore and Mr. Rigby, together with the Two Knights for the County of Lancaster, shall be appointed by this House to see the Ordinance of Parliament put in Execution, for the present Disarming of Recusants.

It was Declared by the House, That they did intend, that they should require the Assistance of the High Sheriff, and the Justices of Peace, for the better Execution of this Order.

It was likewise Resolved, upon the Question, That, in the same Manner, these Gentlemen following should be appointed in the Counties following, viz. for

Advancing Money.

Ordered, That the Order for Advancing of Monies upon the Poll-bill shall extend to the Tenth of September.

Commrs for the Peace.

Mr. Theloall reports, that they had attended my Lord Keeper; and that he had given Order for the Putting of Mr. Price into the Commission of the Peace: And, upon any Exceptions taken against Mr. Blany and Mr. Jugues, they should be put forth.

Ordered, That Mr. Thelloall, and Sir Jo. Price, shall deliver to the Lord Keeper the Exceptions that this House takes to Mr. Arthur Blany and Mr. Juques, being Commissioners for the Peace in the County of Montgomery: And to desire, that they might be put out of the Commission.

The Exceptions that were taken against them were, that the House was informed that they were Recusants.

The Tower.

Mr. Hollis reports, that the Lords do agree to the Proposition of Taking of Fifty Men of the Hamlets by Day, and as many by Night, to be put into the Tower for the Security of that Place: But do likewise propound to this House, that the Constable may have Liberty to put in Forty such Men as he can confide in; and that they may have the same Pay as the Warders have.

Disarming Recusants.

Mr. Pym, Mr. Cage, Mr. Hollis, Mr. Strode, Sir Henry Vane, Mr. Selden, Lord Falkland, Sir Tho. Barrington, Sir John Wraye, Mr. Martin, Mr. Corbett, Mr. Reynolds, Sir Robert Harley, Mr. Morley, Serjeant Wilde, Mr. Peard, Sir John Potts, Sir Henry Hayman:

This Committee, or any Four of them, are to prepare an Ordinance of Parliament, and Instructions for the present Disarming of Recusants: And have Power to nominate such Persons in every County, as they shall think fit to do this Service, though they be not Members of the House; and to present them to the House: And are to meet this Afternoon, at Two of Clock, in the Court of Wards.
