Popish Recusants.

1^a vice lecta est Billa, An Act to prevent the Dangers that may happen by Popish Recusants.

Subsidies.

Mr. Whistler reports the Bill of Confirmation of the Four Subsidies, with the Amendments and Alterations; which were all twice read: And then it was ordered to be ingrossed.

Nevitt's, &c. Petition.

The humble Petition of Thomas Nevitt and William Downes was read; and referred to the Committee for the Farmers of the Customs: And they are to consider of the Petition; and of the Matter of Fact of breaking open Warehouses, and violently taking away their Goods, without any Licence: And they are to report to the House, how they find the Matter of Fact; and are to sit Tomorrow in the Afternoon, in the Duchy-chamber.

Bailing Lodovick, &c.

Ordered, That Waldron Lodovick, Abraham Veillons, John Biles, Merchants, upon their giving Security to the Serjeant, in whose Custody they are, of Ten thousand Pounds a Man, with Sureties to be forthcoming, at such Times as this House shall require, and not to depart without Leave, shall have Liberty to follow their own Occasions.

Transporting Gold.

Ordered, That the whole Matter concerning the Transporting of Gold, whereof the House was this Day informed, be referred to the Committee last appointed for the King's Army; and they are to report the State of it to the House: And they have Power to send for the Examinations, Depositions, and other Matters, that were taken in the Star-chamber, in this Cause; and all other Papers, Letters, Books, Accounts, or Writings whatsoever, that may any way concern or conduce to this Business; and to send for Parties and Witnesses: And

Privilege to Person in attendance.

It is farther Ordered, That Tho. Violett, of London, Goldsmith, who follows this Business, do from time to time attend this Committee, with such Informations as he can give in this Business: And that the said Tho. Violett shall have the Privilege of this House, freely to come and go, without the Interruption or Molestation of any, during the Dependence of this Business; unless, upon any Complaint against him to this House, it shall be otherwise ordered: And they are to meet on Saturday next in the Afternoon, in the Duchy-chamber.

Earl of Straford.

Ordered, That the Earl of Straford's Committee of Twelve do attend that Service, and lay aside all Excuses, and other Occasions; unless they be otherwise commanded by this House: And Mr. Glinne is added to this Committee.

Hollis' Petition.

The humble Petition of Denzell Hollis, Esquire, a Member of this House, was read.

Tonage and Poundage.

The House was resolved into a Committee, upon the same Occasions it was Yesterday resolved.

Mr. Prideaux called to the Chair.

Mr. Speaker reassumes the Chair.

Upon Mr. Prideaux his Report from the Committee, it was

Resolved, upon the Question, That a Bill be drawn for the Passing of a Subsidy of Tonage and Poundage, for Three Years; and to be presented to this House; upon a Book of Rates, agreed upon by this House.

Ordered, That the Committee for the Customs shall take into Consideration the Book of Rates, to prepare and present it to the House; and they have Power to call before them; and employ, such Persons as they shall think may be fit to give them Information, or do them Service, in the Preparing or Consideration of this Book of Rates.

Contempt of Witnesses.

Ordered, that Mr. Jo. Gower be forthwith sent for, as a Delinquent, by the Serjeant at Arms attending on this House, for his Contempt in going out of Town, notwithstanding that he was required by the Committee for the Earl of Straford, to stay in Town, and not to depart without their Licence.

Ordered, That, if any of the Witnesses in the Earl of Straford's Cause, have or shall depart the Town, having been required to stay, before such time as that Committee be made acquainted therewith, shall be adjudged to offer a great Contempt to this House; and shall therefore be forthwith sent for, as a Delinquent.

This Committee is to prepare a Bill for the passing of a Subsidy of Tonage and Poundage, for Three Years; and to consider, how to advance present Monies to supply the Necessity of the Navy; and to take care, that the Bill may be so drawn, that it may be Security to such as shall advance Monies upon the Occasions of the Navy: And they have Power to send for, and to treat with, such Persons as they shall think fit, about the Advancing of so much present Monies, as shall be needful for the setting forth of so many Ships, as shall be necessary for the Guard of the Seas, and Defence of the Kingdom: And they are to report what they have done, concerning the Advancing of Monies, on Saturday next, or sooner, if they can: And they have likewise Power to send for Parties, Witnesses, Papers, Records, or any thing else, that may conduce to the Business: And they are to meet at Two of Clock this Afternoon, in the Exchequer-chamber.

Resolved, upon the Question, That whosoever shall advance Monies, or give Credit for the Advance of Monies, to supply the present Occasions, for the Setting forth of a Fleet for the Guard of the Seas, and Defence of the Kingdom, shall be secured for their Repayment, by the Bill of Subsidy of Tonage and Poundage.
