silks, commencing from the 1st inst. The Custom
of their goods if imported will be near 3,000l. We
think it a fit case for relief. If granted, this relief
should be expedited before the intended prohibition
in Parliament takes place. |

In the said account, being of moneys received and

last, by said Harbord or by George Bride, his deputy,
Harbord voluntarily charges himself with receipts

which he had from Mr. Coven, a collector of Excise

It is hereby the King's pleasure that the said
items of payments be allowed, as they are sworn
to by said Bride, "although by reason of the nature
and urgency of our service in the expenditure of
the said moneys such formal warrants, receipts or
other vouchers as by the strict rules and course of
our Exchequer are or might be requisite were not
had or obtained or cannot be produced."
Further hereby 60l. is to be allowed to said
Harbord for his charges in passing this account.
Further, the said Harbord as now Paymaster
General of the Forces designed for the reducing of
Ireland has, pursuant to the King's directions,
paid (out of moneys issued to him for that service)
44,265 guilders (or 4,195l. 14s. 8d. sterling) for
5,000 musquets and 220,000 flints, all bought in
Holland for the use of the Forces so designed for
Ireland (as by an account thereof attested by Robert
Foreman) ; 30l. each to Monsieur Dompiere, Monsieur
Mainollier de la Baute [and another] and 20l. to
Monsieur Fauchiamber or 110l. in all, being four [sic]
French officers sent by order of the Duke of Schonberg
to Londonderry ; 100l. to Col. Trelawney for
his journey to Chester to view the Regiments designed
for Ireland and to take care of their embarking ; 19l.
to Capt. Wynne for carriage of arms from London
to Chester ; 20l. to Mr. Luke King for going to
Chester and Liverpool to muster the Forces sent
to Londonderry ; 20l. to Thomas Smith, messenger,
for going to Chester to take care of 11,624l. sent
thither for the King's service ; 38l. 10s. 0d. for a
guard for the said money to Chester ; 20l. to Joseph
Bennett, who came express from Londonderry
with an account of the condition of that place ;
50l. to David Carnes, who went express several
times between London and Londonderry ; 100l. to
Mris. Walker, wife of Mr. Walker, one of the commanders
in Londonderry, for her relief ; 100l. to
Mris. Baker, wife of Lieut. Baker, one of the commanders
there, for her relief ; 20l. to Robert Galbrath
sent express to Glasgow in Scotland to despatch
provisions to Londonderry ; 5,000l. to Major-General
Kirke to be by him carried to Londonderry.
All the said sums amounting to 9,793l. 4s. 8d. are
hereby to be allowed in the next account of said
Harbord of his receipts and payments for the said
Irish service, although vouchers etc. as above are
not producable for same. And all such payments for
the said service as he shall hereafter make by direction
of the royal sign manual are hereby to be

with a view to an extension of lease thereof to
Anthony Trethewy.
Prefixing : report by William Harbord, Surveyor
General of Crown Lands, on said Trethewy's petition,
supra, p. 149. Lord Arundell of Trerice had great
contests and suits at law with the Corporation of
Plymouth in defence of the King's title to the
premises and was constrained to mortgage his
interest to petitioner, who, having several other
debts due to him from said Lord, has since the
latter's death taken out letters of administration
and so is become entitled to the premises. There
is an arrear of rent owing from said Lord on the
said premises of 166l. 13s. 4d. for 12½ years to
Lady day last and a further 25l. due from him
for same time on the rent of a tenement in Cranmow,
parcel of the manor of Treworgie, assigned to said
Lord by Henry Seymour. These arrears should
be paid before the new lease pass, but no fine should
be exacted in view of the charges in supporting
the King's title. |
