Royal warrant to Lawrence, Earl of Rochester, as
Ranger and Keeper of Richmond Park alias New
Park, co. Surrey, to lease out for four years the
parcel thereof commonly known by the name of
the Old Paddocks, containing about 300 acres for
four years from Nov. 1 inst.; at such yearly rent
and on such covenants for ploughing the same or
any part thereof as the said Earl shall think fit:
the said rent to be paid to him the said Earl for his
own use: all by reason that the said Old Paddocks
was enclosed and set apart for raising yearly a stock
of hay for the deer, but produceth such coarse grass
as is no ways useful for that service and if same
were ploughed for some time it would not only
sweeten the turf but in all probability yield in time
a sufficient stock of hay for the deer and so save
the charge the King is now at in buying hay for
said deer. |
