The lieutenants and regarders of Whittlewood and Salcey Forests certify that the following coppices there are fit to be felled this season. viz., Little Streights Coppice in Robert Howling's Walk in Salcey Forest, Sayes Coppice in Wakefield Walk, Birch Coppice in Sholbrooke Walk and Armitage Coppice in Shrobb Walk in Whittlewood Forest. You are hereby to fell a convenient number of trees there for the gating, stileing, cabbening and staking said coppices as desired by the Queen's Council. Prefixing particulars dated 1679, Dec. 2, by deputy auditor Thomas Tuder of both parcels, and ratal dated 1679, Dec. 6, thereof by the Surveyor General of Crown Lands made in pursuance of a Treasury warrant of Nov. 29 last. The first parcel is held by said Hughs by mesne assignment from Morgan and Horne. The second parcel has been granted by the Crown but "I find no enrolment thereof before me [Tuder], and conceive the grant thereof is expired upon the death of Lewis Williams son to the abovementioned Hugh Williams. and finding the same [concealed] and the rent almost lost I did by virtue of my office let the same for three years to Mr. Hughes at the rent of 4l. 10s. 0d. per an., which I conceive is near the full value." The consideration for this lease is the good service of said Hughs in continuing and preserving the said rents which otherwise might have been lost: therefore the lease to pass without fine. |

Herts, with the rights, members and appurtenances thereof, and all manner of quitrents payable by the free or copyhold tenants, rents seck, rents of assize and other rents of whatsoever nature, and all houses, tenements, cottages, lands, demesnes, meadows, pastures, feedings, commons, common of pasture, wastes, heaths, moors, woods, underwoods, mines, quarries and liberty of free chase and free warren, and also of all fairs and market tolls and other profits of fairs and markets, courts-leet, courts-baron, views of frankpledge and other courts and the profits thereof, all piscaries, hawking, hunting, felons, felo de se, etc., and other franchises, immunities, etc., etc., together with the reversion of all and singular the premises and all the Crown title thereto to be holden by him, his heirs and assigns for ever as of the manor of East Greenwich in free and common socage only, by fealty and the rent of 5s. per an. The present grant to be in consideration of the following rents, which are to be reconveyed [to the King] by said Guy, being wrongly sold to him, as having been (1) rents doubly conveyed, or (2) not liable, or (3) not saleable, all as follows and in consideration also of the arrears of the whole and also of the sum of 62l. 5s. 2d. to be by said Guy paid into the Exchequer. And whereas Denzell, Lord Holles, Henry, Earl of Clarendon, William, Visct. Brouncker, William Montague, Esq., Chief Baron of the Exchequer, Sir Rich. Beling, Kt., principal secretary to the Queen Consort, John Harvey, Treasurer to the said Queen, and John Hall, late her Surveyor General stand possessed of said manor (by assignments from the King and from the Trustees of the late Queen Mother) for the remainder of 99 years in trust for the Queen Consort for her life and afterwards in trust for the King: the said Trustees are hereby (after the death of the Queen Consort and the determination of leases by them made) to stand possessed of same in trust for said Guy for the remainder of said term of 99 years: and immediately on the death of said Queen (or at any time during her life time with her consent) they are to assign and transfer the premises for the remainder of their said term to said Guy. |

Northumberland for the annual stipend of 2 chaplains there make together the sum of 17l. 5s. 1½d. per an.: whereof (as appears by Auditor Aldworth's certificate of 1678–9, Feb. 4), the greatest part has not been answered [to be Crown] for above 40 years, same being charged upon the collectors in their accounts, but the said collectors having alleged that they knew not where to levy the same: "by which we are fully satisfied" that said Henry Guy has not received and that neither he nor his heirs are likely to receive any benefit thereof. [(3) rents not saleable]: the following lands are to be part of the same surrender consideration, the same having been by deed dated 1672, Aug. 12, sold by the Trustees for Fee Farms to trustees for Lord St. John, now Marquess of Winchester, and having been afterwards [by the like mistake as above], viz., by deed dated 1674–5, Feb. 13, sold to said Guy, viz., several farms or rents parcel of the manor of the Chapiter Court of St. John of Beverley, co. Yorks, that is to say 24s. per an. for 6 oxgangs of arable land lying in the fields of Etton, now or lately paid by John Eastoft; 8s. per an. for 2 oxgangs of same, ibid, paid by same; 10s. per an. for a cottage in Molescroft, now or lately paid by Marmaduke, Lord Langdale; 9s. per an. for a close called Larkclose containing 2 acres of pasture lying near Molescroft Chapel; 18d. per an. for 2 cottages in Molescroft; 9d. per an. for a cottage there (which last three rents are or lately were paid by Thomas Johnson); 6s. 8d. per an. for a close of 2 acres of pasture called Common Garth there, now or late [paid by] Inglebert Leeds; 4s. 2d. per an. for 2 cottages there paid by John Taylor; 2s. 3d. per an. for another cottage there, paid now or late by Allen Percey; 6d. per an. for a close there, paid now or late by Anthony Pierson and 4s. per an. for a standing in the fair time at Beverley, amounting in the whole to 3l. 10s. 10d. per an.: it appearing by certificate of Auditor Aldworth dated 1679, Dec. 3, that same are not saleable under the Act for sale of Fee Farms, being copyhold rents, parcel of the said manor [of St. John of Beverley].All the aforesaid rents, making together 30l. 13s. 3½d., were sold by said Trustees at 16 years' purchase, making a principal of 490l. 12s. 8d. and the arrears

As against this sum the said manor of Tring is valued (by ratal of the Surveyor General of Crown Lands dated Nov. 20 last) at 782l. 17s. 6d. (being 10 years' purchase) for the inheritance thereof after death of the Queen Consort. |
