Potter commander, from Leghorn, same having for the greatest part thereof been used in his family there for above 20 years and the rest a considerable time.
Appending : List of said goods (household goods, etc., one St. Francis buglework, one St. George, two stone pictures [? frescos], three other pictures, two maps of Emperors and Popes and my daughter's picture, one picture of a clock and cloth of gold, a cabinet of natural stone, a piece of Turkey embroidered work, two pictures, two tortoishell baskets, a pair of Jerusalem garters, five English knives agate handles, a spike of rough coral, one [picture] gilt [viz.] the great Duke and Duchess's picture, the picture of Judas, a large set of curtains, Cameralo gold colour, cushions of brocatello, a Naples waistcoat for my son Charles, four dozen of napkins in the middle a baby with its cushion, four pictures of the place of Leghorn and two of fruit, a dressing box with Florence stones and pictures of glass, two pots of sherbet made and saved in our own house.

Same from same to the Auditor of First Fruits and Tenths for the diocese of Chichester. Peter, late bishop of Chichester and now bishop of Ely is charged for the Tenths of the diocese of Chichester 354l. 8s. 7d. for the year ended Christmas, 1673, and 227l. 6s. 3d. for the year ended Christmas, 1674, with 12 per cent. interest for both sums for not paying them in due time. Said money was not received by the bishop but remained in the hands of his sub collector who failed and went away with the same. Nevertheless said bishop did in March last pay 354l. 8s. 7d. into the Exchequer, and the King has since granted the remaining 227l. 6s. 3d. (and all other sums due on said account) to Bernard Greenvile, who is willing to remit said [12 per cent.] interest money. On said bishop's paying said 227l. 6s. 3d. to said Greenvile said [12 per cent.] interest and damages on both sums is to be discharged. Warrants not Relating to Money VII. p. 117.
Nov. 7. Money warrant for 48l. to Anthony Segar for last Sept. 29 quarter's incidents of the Treasury Office ; and 10l. for same quarter's salary. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Commissioners to deliver, Customs free, six coach horses consigned from Calais to the French Ambassador residing here. Out Letters (Customs) III. p. 372.
Treasurer Danby's warrant of appointment and instruction to Charles Binks, Roger Cowley, and Edwyn Steede, Esqrs., for collecting the duty of Four and a Half per cent. upon sugars and other commodities at Barbados, all in view of the fact that the lease thereof to the Honble. Robert Spencer, Esq., Sir Charles Wheler, Kt., and Col. John Strode will determine Dec. 24 next, from which time it will be necessary to employ some persons in the collection thereof to the King's use. You are to return the effects and profits of the said duty in Barbados by the best ways and means you can and according to such rules and instructions as the Farmers of said duty have given for the collecting, levying and returning of the same at this present time. The like warrant and instruction to Joseph Martin, Esq., to collect the said duty in the Leeward Isles upon the determination of Col. Strode's farm thereof at Christmas next. Memorandum : duplicates of these deputations and instructions were signed 13 Dec., 1677, and sent away. Ibid.
Treasurer Danby to Sir Jonathan Atkins, Kt., Capt. General and Governor in Chief of Barbados, informing him of the above appointment of said Binks, et al, and desiring that they may have all necessary powers and directions delegated to them for that purpose. Ibid, p. 118.

Warrant from same to the King's Remembrancer to issue out a writ of certiorari to the steward of the Court of Record of the Honor and Castle of Windsor to certify into the Exchequer Court all fines, pains and amerciaments set upon the Janitor or porter of the outward gate and other officers of the said Court of Record and of said Castle and Honor of Windsor since the time of the last Act of Grace or Pardon. Same from same to Edmund Portman to deliver to the Secretary to the Treasury at Whitehall to be there safely lodged and kept for his Majesty's service all the papers of examinations taken touching the embezzlement of a Genoa ship and many other public papers which remain in your hands, and which ought [rather] to remain in some public office. Nov. 9. Same from same to Richard Light[foot] Auditor of the Revenue of the Honor and Castle of Windsor to make out debentures for what is due to Sept. 29 last to John Hill on his fee of 1d. a day as circuitor and bailiff of the Circuit called Battles Walk alias Battles Bailiwick [in Windsor Forest] it appearing by certificate of John Hawes, sworn clerk in the office of said Lightfoot that said Hill has not received any fee out of revenue of the Honor and Castle of Windsor, and that said fee was allowed to said Hill's predecessors and is due to him. And dormant warrant for same in future as it grows due. Said debentures are to be satisfied from time to time out of the revenues of the Honor and Castle of Windsor. Money Book (General) p. 152.

On reading your report on Giles Dowle's petition, Treasurer Danby in July last directed you to see that Mr. Dunstar in his circuit [of survey to the western ports] should examine the truth of the certificate of several Justices of Gloucestershire, and that your Solicitor Mr. Prowse, should enquire at the [King's] Remembrancer's Office what prosecution petitioner had made against the planters of tobacco in co. Gloucester. Give his Lordship an account hereof at your next waiting on him. Ibid, p. 373.
Royal warrant to the Attorney or Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant of the office of Chief Searcher of London port to Abraham Holditch and Peter Percivall for the life of the longer liver of them, "in possession immediately, and so soon as the said office became void by" the determination of the interest therein of Edmond Long and John Danvers who are now in possession of the said office : and for a reversionary grant of same to William Fowlis for life after said Holditch and Percivall. Same to same for a same for a grant to Sir James Bradshawe, Kt., his heirs and assigns, of the real and personal estate as well in Chester city as elsewhere of Edward Bradshaw, late of Chester city, gent., the said Edward (at a session hold at Great Yarmouth Sept. 12 last before Sir Robert Baldwick, Kt., Serjt. at Law, Recorder of Great Yarmouth and other Justices) having been convicted of assisting in the felonious killing of John Ward, butcher, whereby said Edward's estate is forfeit to the King. Same to same for a same for a grant to our right trusty and right entirely beloved son Charles, Duke of Richmond and Lennox and to our right entirely beloved Cousin Louise, Duchess of Portsmouth, of all that the several sum of 12d., payable to [us], our heirs and successors, by the Governors, Stewards and Brethren of the Fellowship of the Hoastmen of Newcastle [upon every chaldron of coal] as shall be shipped, carried away or vended by any person forth of the haven or river of Tyne belonging to the aforesaid town, to be spent [sold] in this kingdom of England and not transported beyond sea, and of all rents (the yearly rental of 1,838l. 12s. 6d.) reserved upon the demise of said duty to John, Visct. Mordaunt, deceased, and others, and also (the yearly rental of 612l. 1s. 6d. sic for 612l. 17s. 6d. reserved) upon the demise of the third part of said duty to Elizabeth, Viscountess Mordaunt, and upon all other demises thereof ; and also of the reversion and remainder of the said duty : to hold to the said Duke and the heirs of his body and for want of such heirs then to the said Duchess and the heirs of her body : rendering therefor to us our heirs and successors the rent of four nobles per an. payable at Michaelmas only : with a saving to Sir Thomas Clarges of his grant in fee of 500l. per an. out of the said duty. Treasurer Danby to the Commissioners for enquiring of and disposing the estate of John White, a bankrupt late of Westminster, brewer. I am informed that you have already met and that you are putting said commission in execution against White's estate. This is to acquaint you that White was indebted to the King in considerable sums of money, which ought to be first paid before the creditors. Take notice hereof and do nothing to the projudice of his Majesty. Warrants not Relating to Money VII. p. 118.
Report from same to the King on the report dated May 19 last from the Earl of Essex, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, on the petition of Arthur, Viscount Iveagh. Said petition having been referred to the Earl of Essex, Jan. 15 last, the said Earl thereupon referred the examination of said Viscount's pretences to the Commissioners appointed for hearing and determining the claims of transplanted persons in the Province of Connaught and County of Clare, and herewith forwards their report [missing] "which will truly inform your Majesty of the state of the case." Same having been referred June 16 last to Treasurer Danby, the latter hereby agrees with this report of the Lord Lieutenant's. Ibid, p. 119.
Royal sign manual to Charles Bertie "or such other person or persons to whom the money of our secret service shall be usually issued" to pay out of secret service money 100l. per an. to Col. Thomas Wanklyn or his assigns : to be paid quarterly, commencing the first payment from Michaelmas last ; and continuing the due payment thereof as royal bounty until said Wanklyn shall be put into the Commission for inspection of the revenue in Ireland, which we have directed to be done upon the first vacancy therein. Nov. 10. Warrant from Treasurer Danby to the Customs Commissioners to deliver (on payment of Custom ad valorem) some gloves and ribbon, gold buckles and gold buttons belonging to Lord Hatton. Out Letters (Customs) III. p. 372.
Same from same to Sir Peter Killegrew and John Tregeagle, Receivers General of the Duchy of Cornwall and William Harbord, Auditor of same, to pay to Visct. Grandison and Edward Villiers the several and respective rents and sums which should at any time during three years from 1676, June 11, become due to the King for the discharges of increased rents within said Duchy or for compositions for further and other estates made or to be made to the tenants of said Duchy and all moneys in the hands of any the King's officers or tenants of said Duchy for any composition or discharge there made or to be made and also all the said increased rents and the arrears thereof then incurred not compounded for or discharged, not exceeding said term of three years till the respective Farmers or tenants thereof compound for, buy off or discharge the same, and also all moneys recovered and received upon any covenants and securities then made and given or to be made and given for payment of the said rents and sums ; except improved rents which are particularly distinguished in the privy seal dated granting the above. Same from same to the Receipt for tallies of assignment to be levied and stricken on the Collectors or Receivers of the Tenths of the bishopric of Llandaff for 155l. 5s. 4d. per an. to Ellis Lloyd, gent, (as same shall grow due on the annuity to that amount granted him by the privy seal of June 20 last for three years from the first day of Easter term, 1678) : also for the further sum of 104l. 8s. 6d. to said Lloyd being the sum which (by certificate from William Prettiman, Remembrancer of First Fruits) appears to be due from the bishop of Llandaff for the First Fruits of his diocese ; the king having in the said privy seal further granted to said Lloyd all moneys due from the said bishop for said First Fruits.
