established as from said date, to be under the command of the
Governor, the charge of the said three companies with fire and

said Governor's company are to be paid out of our revenue of
the said island we think fitt that the Paymaster of our Forces
do receive by virtue of our said establishment but the pay of

gunner having been appointed by the last general establishment for the payment of the forces from 1668, Sept. 26,

month "but the same being omitted in our letters of privy
seal for the payment of our forces according to that establishment we thinke fit that the arrears due to the said gunner for
two years and eight months from the said 26th day of Sept.,
1668, inclusive, to the 6th of May, 1671, amounting to
71l. 8s. 0d. be paid, and that the said entertainment be continued from the said 6th day of May"). |

to the reformed officers (we having by our warrant under our
royal sign manual bearing date the 23rd day of April, 1666,
directed "a daily pay for the subsistence of several reformed
officers mentioned in a list upon the back of our said warrant,
that is to say, twenty pence for a captain and 10d. a day for a
lieutenant, which was paid from the said 23rd day of April,
1666, to the 25th day of March, 1667, and then discontinued
for want of money, so that there is now an arrear due unto
them from the 25th day of March, 1667, to the 26th of Sept.,
1668, amounting to 1,006l. 10s. 0d. from which time we have
by our establishment made a provision for their future

added to the Governor's company of the Isle of Wight to

to allowe for contingencies above what is allowed by our
former general establishment and letters of privy seal abovementioned": all the above sums to be paid as imprest and
with due observation of such general directions concerning
musters, &c., as are contained in the privy seal of 1668,
Nov. 23, "and because the present state of our revenue is such
as will not permit you [the Treasury Lords] to find ready
money for the payment of our guards and garrisons, but
that the said Sir Stephen Fox, our paymaster thereof, will be
enforced to take up money either upon his own credit or upon
the credit of orders registered or to be registered for those
services and to pay interest for the same," he is therefore from
time to time to be repaid such monies as he shall so disburse
for interest of borrowed money not exceeding 20,000l. in the
whole, said interest being duly stated by auditors appointed for
that purpose by the Treasury. |
