Aug. 22, forenoon. Windsor Castle. Present: Lord Treasurer, Chancellor of the Exchequer.
[My Lord refers it to] Mr. Walpole and Mr. Brydges to consider the Victuallers' demands for victualling soldiers and to report what they think reasonable to be charged on the soldiers' subsistence.
[My Lord directs] 21,737l. 10s. 0d. to be issued in Exchequer Bills on the orders in the name of Sir Patrick Johnson et al., viz. 13,450l. to complete 28,452l. 19s. 7d. to discharge the allowance for fish and flesh exported from Scotland which was cured with foreign salt imported into Scotland before the said 1st July 1707 and 8,287l. 10s. 0d. to complete 23,299l. 15s. 0d. for discharging the allowance for foreign salt imported into Scotland before the said 1st July 1707 and which on the —— day of —— remained in the hands of her Majesty's subjects there.
[My Lord directs the issue] to Mr. Micklethwait of 7,087l. 10s. 0d. for transport service upon account: in Exchequer Bills: which sum (together with 50,300l. now authorised to be taken up of the Bank on tallies, to wit 30,300l. on malt tallies anno 1707 and 20,000l. on Land Tax tallies anno 1709 at par) is to be applied to the course of the Transport Office and is to clear the same to the last day of Feb. 1706–7.
[My Lord directs] 21,550l. to Mr. Brydges in Exchequer Bills: for several services [of the Forces Abroad] mentioned in his memorials.
[My Lord directs] 23,267l. 18s. 2¼d. to Mr. How for a month's subsistence to the Guards and Garrisons &c. to wit from Aug. 25 inst. to Sept. 21 next [for the Guards]; and for pay to the Garrisons to June 24 last; and for half a year's Contingencies.
[My Lord directs] 2,912l. 6s. 7½d. to the Treasurer of the Navy: to be paid over to the Treasurer for Sick and Wounded to answer bills of exchange.
[My Lord directs] 7,782l. 4s. 9d. more to Mr. How for the 5,000 men for sea service according to his memorial in this behalf. Ibid., p. 49.
