William Lowndes to Lord Coningsby. In yours of the 18th ult.
you transmit a warrant directed to you by the late Commissioners
for Forfeitures, Ireland, for paying 9,717l. 3s. 0d. into the Exchequer
and you desire instructions to whom to return the money and what
discharge you should have for the same. You are to comply with
the Act of Parliament in that case and return the money in your

Same to the Lord Treasurer [at the Bath], The Council to the
Lord Admiral desire your directions to the Prizes Commissioners for
stopping the payment of Capt. Littleton's share of a French East
India prize until such time as he shall give an account of all the
plunder seized by him that was on and above the gun deck of the
said ship when taken and how the Customs have been secured for
same. Please signify your pleasure therein. The Speaker of the
House of Commons wrote to me for your authority for recovering a
parcel of treasure trove belonging to her Majesty concerning which
he has good information. I enclose a warrant for this purpose for
your signature.
As to the other papers enclosed they came in a cover from Ireland
and (besides the 2 letters addressed to you) do contain an account
of the proceedings of the House of Commons there.
At the request of the Chancellor of the Exchequer I enclose a
warrant for stopping process against the Earl of Montague for his
accounts as Master of the Great Wardrobe.
My Lord Clarendon was with me this morning about an arrear
of rent which a messenger is about to levy on an estate in Lancashire
which belonged to Sir Joseph Williamson. He says 'twas paid long
ago and desires that the demand may be respited.
It hath pleased God to take to himself my dear child, which is a

Regiment of Foot Guards and 6 colours for the Second Regiment
of same and for escutcheons &c. sent with the Garter to the Elector

William Lowndes to the Lord Treasurer [at the Bath]. By a
letter recently received from Mr. Manley I perceive that the contracts
for the tin both of Devon and Cornwall are concluded and will
commence on Dec. 1 next. I have sent to Sir John Houblon and
Mr. Eyles (as you advised) to consult with them as to the disposing
of same and by the next post hope to send you our sentiments
thereon. Mr. Manley desires your leave to be in town at the sitting
of Parliament and desires to be employed in the managing the tin
affair and that he may not be kept at Plymouth, where he suffers
in his health.
I enclose a paper of cash as it now stands and have ordered Mr.
Tilson to enclose several presentments from the Customs Commissioners
with some few warrants necessary for your signature.
