and the sum of 27,715l. 6s. 8¼d. had been previously paid down by
them at entry of the said wines as Spanish and has been actually
applied in the Exchequer to the heads of several Duties as below
and the Queen is contented that it shall remain so applied in consideration
of the great debts upon the nation : and there has been
further paid 3739l. 14s. 4½d. for Additional Duty and 13,538l. 4s. 3½d.
for Impost and 918l. 4s. 0d. for discharge of Additional Duty bonds
and 4428l. 2s. 9½d. for Impost bonds, and other like bonds respectively
for 2821l. 10s. 4½d. and 9110l. 1s. 6d. remain in hand undischarged.
Now the Queen is pleased to direct that the said sums of 918l. 4s. 0d.
and 4428l. 2s. 9½d. be applied to discharging the said composition
and they are to be paid to Richard Hosier, Inspector of Fines and
Forfeitures, to be by him so applied.
Appending : schedule of the Duties to the heads of which the

from your letter that a difficulty is made in Holland of proceeding
to pay [the States' share of the charge of the] 20,000 augmentation
Troops by moieties of the charge and perceives that the chief
objection is that by the constitution of the Provinces each Province
must have its proportion of the Troops by a repartition of the whole.
He is of opinion that matter may be settled by establishing 10,000
of the men to be paid by England and the other 10,000 by the States
so that each may be liable to an equal number and charge of Horse,
Dragoons and Foot, but that great care is to be taken that this be
done equally and without disadvantage to either nation. Out

Prefixing : (a) order of the Queen in Council dated Hampton
Court 24 June last for Sir Cloudesley Shovell, Admiral of the White
Squadron, to have his share of the several prizes taken by him,
which he claimed under the royal Declaration of 1 June 1702 : the
Prizes Commissioners making difficulty of paying same on a certificate
from the Lord High Admiral as to the shares of said prizes by reason
that the said Declaration requires such a certificate from the Navy
Commissioners. It is hereby declared that such a certificate from
the Lord Admiral or his Council shall be a proper and sufficient

the petition of Onesiphorus Dagnia shewing that a special verdict
for 200l. was obtained against him in 1697 for removing glass wares

Tisser the solicitor [of the Duties on Glass &c.] to enter up the special

that Mary and Rachell Bendyshe being proprietors of a refining
saltwork called Cobholm Pans near Yarmouth, and not having
wherewithal to work and employ same, in 1692 requested petitioner

this he did in his own name for better security but from time to time
accounted to them for the profits : that he has paid the Duty under
7 and 8 Wm. III. C. 31. of 3½d. per gallon on refined salt over and
above the old Duty ever since that Act passed but the officer now
demands 67l. 15s. 7½d. for salt refined before it passed : therefore
praying relief, he having accounted for the profits to the said Mary
