and a schoolmaster in Pennsylvania and the orders in Council
relating thereto. It may be for his Majesty's service and encouragement of the ministry in those parts to renew the several orders of
1695 Nov. 19 and 1697 Dec. 16 for the payment of the yearly salaries
of 50l. to a Protestant divine and 30l. per an. to a schoolmaster in
Pennsylvania out of the revenue of 1 penny per pound on the side
[or coastal] trade of that Province, unless the said revenue shall be
judged to be otherwise appropriated for the present year by a clause
in the late Act of Parliament for an Aid to the King by the sale of

under Col. John Gibson) the Company of Lieut. Col. James Stanhope

that upon the raising of the said Company in March 1693–4 the
said Stanhope soon after obtained permission of the King to repair
to Flanders to serve as a volunteer whereupon he committed the
care of his Company to his Lieutenant who received the levy money
but misapplied same and instead of raising the Company which
was ordered to be mustered complete on May 20 following deserted
with the money so that Stanhope was obliged afterwards to raise
the Company at his own expense but could not join the Regiment,
then at Portsmouth, nor muster till about two months after, whereby

commanded the Regiment: and likewise to allow the pay of men
respited on the first two musters after their landing from Flanders
viz. from 1692, Nov. 1; the King having after the battle of Steinkerk
sent the said Regiment into England to be recruited by reason of
its being much weakened in that action and they did not receive
any money to enable them to raise the said recruits and after their
landing in November 1692 the men that were lost in that service
