Prefixing: report by William Taylor (in the absence of the said
Surveyor General) on said Earl's petition for same. The Earl
obtained grants in April 1690 and in 1693 and 1696 ut supra Treas.
Cal. Vol. IX p. 553, X p. 227, XI p. 169–70. There are 97 years to
come in his term therein. The rents reserved on the first two leases
(40l. 12s. 0d. together) were computed at 40s. per acre, formerly
accounted the full annual value; but the petitioner has been at so
great charge in building a fair house with garden &c. that now 300l. or
400l. may be called a year's purchase and if the fee simple be passed to
him out of the Crown then the 5l. per an. rent may be rated at 100l.
The five acres of meadow also desired are called St. James's Acres in
Thames Mead and lie convenient for petitioner, being between his
gardens and the river. They were granted 1668 Aug. 11 to Sir
William Pulteney and are now vested in John Kenrick for the 24
years remainder term. In his life time Pulteney let them to one
Gray for 21 years at 10l. per an. rent. I value the desired reversion

Royal warrant under the King's sign manual to the Attorney or
Solicitor General for a great seal for a grant to Otto, baron of
Schwerin in the Electorate of Brandenburg, of all the Crown's title
and interest in the estate of Dame Ann Morgan of Chelsea Co. Midd.
widow, as found by inquisition taken at Newport, Co. Monmouth
May 13 last before Thomas Edwards Esq. et al whereby it appeared
that in her life time to wit on the 18th June 1687 (when she made
her last will) and on the 10th June 1689 (when she died) she was
seized as of fee in the capital messuage called Craygollway Farm
in the parish of Llangeview, Co. Monmouth and other manors, lands
&c. as below to the value of 250l. per an. and which she by the said
will demised to Sir Edmund Thomas Kt., with remainder to Ann
Thomas his sister, with further remainder to Ermgart Maria niece
of the said Ann and wife of the said Otto baron of Schwerin who is an
alien born; which premises were held successively by the said Sir
Edmund and his sister Ann who both died without issue, the latter
on the 10th of August 1694, whereupon viz. on 1st Sept. 1694 the said
Ermgart Maria entered into possession: and further the said
Ermgart as niece and heir of the said Dame Ann succeeded after
the 10th June 1689 to other messuages and lands as below to the
value of 30l. per an. and entered into possession of the same with
her husband 12 August 1694: all which several manors, messuages
&c. were severally seized into the King's hands by virtue of the
said commission of inquisition and the said Baron of Schwerin has
petitioned for a grant thereof; on which petition the Attorney General
has reported that the said Baron in right of his wife has entered on
the premises and received the profits thereof but by reason of being
an alien born his estate therein during the coverture is by royal
prerogative vested in the Crown, but that by patent he is made a
free denizen of the realm "and thereby enabled to accept from us
a grant of the premises" and that same may be legally so granted
to him. |

his ancestor Francis Godolphin Esq. in consideration of faithful
services and of the long continuance of his family in the said isles;
which by further grants from James I and Charles I 1636 June 22
have ever since been continued in his family; and that about 7 or 8
years ago he purchased of his brother Sir William Godolphin the
residue of the term in being, which will be 10 years to come on the
