655. The Agents for Taxes are called in and acquainted that Simon Taylor is to be receiver of the land tax, 1730, for that part of Norfolk which for 1729 was received by Allen. The Agents to advise with the Attorney General about the instructions to be given to Taylor, and to adjust with him the form of a receipt to be given so as to secure both the Crown and the collectors.
The memorial of the Earl of Wilmington of the 17th instant, for 28,247l. 8s. for pay of staff officers and garrisons from 1729, December 25, to 1730, June 24, and for 10,000l. for pay to the Hessians to same date, read and ordered.
The auditor of Wales to lay before their Lordships a state of the revenues of Wales, with the charge and arrears thereupon and the time to which the accounts have been passed.
A petition of Micajah Perry and other Virginia and Maryland merchants, about importing tobacco of New Spain from the British plantations in America to this kingdom, read and referred to the Commissioners of Customs.
“Upon reading a memorial from the Board of Works, dated the 16th of October last, whereby the sum of 223l. 2s. 2d. is stated to be due to John World for rent, repairs, and other demands for his house in Essex Street, used for the Cotton Library, till the same was lately removed from thence to Lord Ashburnham's, my Lords order the said sum to be issued to the Paymaster of the Works to clear the account of the said rent and demands accordingly.”
Mr. Halls' report and observations on the account of expenses in the Removing Wardrobe signed by Mr. Keene during the King's residence at Wondsor last summer, and regarding the practice of paying four superannuated Yeomen of the Guard 19l. in money in lieu of 36l. in livery, read. Halls to attend to-morrow.
The petition of the justices of peace for Warwick read for the public to be at the expense of transporting felons under sentence of transportation from their county gaols. “My Lords say no public money is in their power to defray this expense, and that the contract with Mr. Forward which is for transporting felons at the King's expense will not be enlarged.”
Mr. Hucks's request to change a name in an office of one of the surveyors for windows agreed to.

The Agents for Taxes lay before their Lordships a form of receipt approved by the Attorney General, to be given by Mr. Taylor to the collectors in Norfolk who have unadvisedly paid to Allen on the land tax, 1730, together with an account of the towns within the said receipt that made no first payment of the land tax, 1730, to Allen, the money from which towns amounts to 1,054l. 1s. 11¼d.
Mr. Hall's report on the account of expenses for the Removing Wardrobe, read, and a copy ordered to be transmitted to Mr. Pelham, the Lord Chamberlain's secretary, in order to a reforming the gross abuses there represented. Their Lordships agree to allow the four superannuated Yeomen of the Guard 25l. per annum in lieu of liveries.

The Earl of Dorset, Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, to the Lords of the Treasury. “The Lords Justices of Ireland having transmitted to me the enclosed memorial of Edward Lovet Pearce, Esq. and certificate of Luke Gardiner, Esq. thereupon, by which it appears that according to Mr. Pearce's estimate, the sum of 2,978l. 13s. 5½d. gross is still wanting to finish the new Parliament House at Dublin, and their Excellencies having acquainted me that they are informed the work must be at a stop in a little time unless His Majesty's letter be obtained for paying the said sum, there being no other method there whereby the Treasury can be warranted to advance that money, I have moved His Majesty for his Royal letter for paying the said sum for the purpose above mentioned, and His Majesty having been … pleased to condescend to this request I desire your Lordships will be pleased to order the proper instrument to be prepared accordingly for His Majesty's signature.” 2 pages.
Appending:—(a.) The memorial of Edward Lovet Pearce, Esq. to the Lords Justices of Ireland. Has carried on the building of the new Parliament House with such expedition that he expects it will be ready by the middle of October next, but conceives the supplies already given for that work may not be sufficient to put it in a condition proper to hold there the next sessions of Parliament. The sum granted by Parliament for the work was 16,000l. of which memorialist has received 14,521l. 2s. 11d. There will be further chargeable against the work 550l. extra charges issued by Luke Gardiner prior to the work, and 480l. for Treasury fees. There is therefore a balance of only 448l. 17s. 1d., over and above which there will still be required a matter of 2,876l. 6s. 1 page. Succeeded by—
A summary of all the different works to be done in order to finishing the new Parliament House (total amounting to 3,331l. 4s. 8½d.). ½ page.

691. Charles Mason to John Scrope. Being required to pay in the balance of his account as late Treasurer and Paymaster of the Transports, proposes to execute a letter of attorney empowering Samuel Edwards to receive all his rents until the satisfaction of his debt to the Crown. 1 page.
