4 Eugenius IV (cont.)
De Diversis Formis
De Regularibus
9 Kal. Dec. Florence. (f. 131d.) |
To Nicholas Buklond, master of the poor hospital of St. Thomas the Martyr in Suthwetk (sic), in the diocese of Winchester. Dispensation to him (who has made the regular profession wont to be made by the brethren of the said hospital, whose buildings are in part collapsed and in ruin, and the fruits etc. of whose mastership, which are converted in aid of the brethren and the sustentation of the poor, do not exceed 200l. a year) to hold for life with the said mastership any benefice with or without cure, wont to be governed by secular clerks, even if a parish church or a perpetual vicarage, and to resign it, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleases, provided that its fruits etc. be converted in aid of the said poor, and that it be not in a cathedral or metropolitan or a collegiate church. Religionis zelus, vite etc. (An. and Cyprianus. | An. l. de Adria.) |

1434. 13 Kal. May. St. Chrysogonus's, (fn. 2) Rome. (f. 176d.) |
To William Clere, of the Carmelite friars’ house of Sutton in the diocese of Exeter. Extension as below. Martin V granted an indult to him, who had been, after the custom of his order, deputed as a reader in theology at Oxford (Exonie) in the diocese of Lincoln, to hold in commendam during the pleasure of the said pope a benefice with or without cure in the gift of his brethren or kinsmen or any other laymen [Cal. Lett. VII, pp. 493 and 515]. At his subsequent petition—setting forth that on the voidance of the parish church of St. Columb Major in the diocese of Exeter, his brother, John Arundell, knight, of that diocese, the patron, presented him, who is the son of an unmarried nobleman and an unmarried woman, to bishop Edmund, who instituted him, in virtue of which presentation and institution he was still holding it; and adding that the said pleasure had expired by the death of the said pope—the present pope granted the said church to him in commendam during his pleasure. The pope now extends his said letters to the pleasure of the apostolic see. Religionis etc. (An. and Ja. de Ugolinis. | An. xxxvi. de Adria.) |
De Provisionibus Prelatorum
11 Kal. May. St. Chrysogonus's, Rome. (f. 219.) |
To the bishop of Killala. Mandate—the pope having been informed by Maurice Mceadagan, an Augustinian canon of St. Mary's, Doeran, in the diocese of Elphin, that Thomas Omeallayd, Premonstratension abbot of St. John Baptist's de Cellaparva in the diocese of Annadown, immediately belonging to the Roman church, has been guilty of dilapidation, when excommunicate has celebrated mass etc., has been guilty of simony, and otherwise leads a very dissolute life—if Maurice will accuse Thomas before him, to summon Thomas, and if he find the above or enough thereof to be true, to deprive Thomas, and in that event to collate and assign the said abbey, value not exceeding 12 marks, to Maurice, and moreover to bless him, or grant that he may be blessed by any catholic bishop. As soon as he obtains possession he is to wear the habit worn in St. John's, and conform to its regular institutes. Solicite consideracionis. (An. and M. Pinardi. | An. l. Tertio Idus Maii Anno Quarto. de Adria.) |

1434[-5]. 7 Id. March. Florence. (f. 225d.) |
To Thomas [Bourchier], elect of Worcester. Provision to him, dean of St. Martin's-le-Grand, London, ãnd chancellor of the university (studii universitatis) of Oxford, of the said see, void by the death without the Roman court of Thomas [Polton], during whose life it was specially reserved by the present pope. Apostolatus officium. |
Concurrent letters to the chapter, to the clergy and to the people of the city and diocese, and to the vassals of the church—Apostolatus etc.; to the archbishop of Canterbury—Ad cumulum; and to Henry, king of England—Gracie divine. (An. and A. de Camporegali. | An. xx. x. x. x. x. x. x. de Adria.) [Eubel, Hierarchia, under ‘Wigornien.,’ does not distinguish between the above Thomas Bourchier, dean of St. Martin's-le-Grand, and Thomas Brouns, to whom the pope had made ineffectual provision on Sept. 24, 1433. See above, p. 213 note. See also above, Reg. Lat. CCCXXIV, f. 261d.]
1433[-4]. 14 Kal. April. St. Chrysogonus's, Rome. (f. 244d.) |
To Gerald de Poudeux, abbot of the Benedictine monastery of St. Mary de la Sauve-Majeure (Silve majoris) in the diocese of Bordeaux. Provision of the said monastery, void by the death of Philip [de l'Epinasse], during whose life it was specially reserved by the present pope, in ignorance perhaps of which the convent elected as abbot the above Gerald, one of the monks, [bachelor of canon law], in priest's orders, who, likewise ignorant, consented, but afterwards caused to be set forth the matter of the election, which was null, in consistory before the pope. Inter curas multiplices. |
Concurrent letters to the convent and to the vassals of St. Mary's, and to the archbishop of Bordeaux—Inter etc.; and to Henry, king of England—Gracie divine. (An. and Ja. Goier. | An. Gratis de mandato domini nostri pape, de Adria.) [See above, p. 498.]
1434. 10 Kal. Oct. Florence. (f. 269d.) |
To William [Silk], elect of Meath. Provision as below. The present pope specially reserved the said see during the life of William [Hadesors], upon whose death, perhaps in ignorance of the said reservation, the clergy of the diocese, according to ancient custom, there being no cathedral church nor chapter of canons, proceeding by way of compromise [described], cast a majority of votes for him, a doctor of canon law, in priest's orders and of the lawful age, and, moreover, born of a lawful marriage, whereupon John Mey, perpetual vicar of Stamolyng in the said diocese, one of the five tellers, in the name of all elected him bishop, who, likewise ignorant of the said reservation, consented, and subsequently, upon learning the said reservation, caused the matter of the said election, which was therefore null, to be set forth in consistory before the pope. Divina disponente. |
Concurrent letters to the clergy and to the people of the diocese, and to the vassals of the church—Divina etc.; to the archbishop of Armagh—Ad cumulum; and to Henry, king of England—Gracie etc. (An. and A. de Camporegali. | An. xxii. xi. xi. xi. xi. xi. de Adria.)
15 Kal. Dec. Florence. (f. 287.) |
To Denis [O'Cahan], (fn. 3) elect of Kilfenora. Provision to him, archdeacon of Kilfenora, of that see, void by the death of Florence [O'Loghnan alias O'Loughlin], during whose life it was specially reserved by the present pope. Apostolatus etc. |
Concurrent letters to the chapter, to the clergy and to the people of the city and diocese, and to the vassals of the church —Apostolatus etc.; and to the archbishop of Cashel—Ad. cumulum. (An. and Anselmus. | An. xx. x. x. x. x. x. de Adria.) [Without the usual letter to the king.] |
